Well, we have another critical round of matches as we get to the pointy end of the season. 6, possibly seven, teams, fighting it out for a top 4 finish.

East Freo v Swans - always a tough ask for Swans (even in our Premiership glory years of 82-84, so I am told) down at Moss St. East Freo need to win to keep them in touch with the 4th placed Perth (or WP, whoever it turns out to be) and Swans need to win to have a shot at second and make sure they finish in the 4. Some favours done by the Eagles and Dockers by MacNamara and Staker being called up, with McManus and Hinkley being put back to the WAFL. That being said, still doesn't make it easy down there. Liam Anthony, whilst always playing welll IMO also plays well against Swans. McCarrey, Green and Adams will lead from the front and Swans have brought in another 3 possible debutants, making 25:eek: for the season. Pearce, and my favourite, Jetta, plus Banfield to possibly get a run. Grabski, who I rated very highly a couple of years ago before a bad run of injuries, plays his first game of the year in League. Should be a tough match and my negativity says the Sharks, but I'm hoping we spring a surprise.

Perth v Claremont - another tough match because Perth seem to have fallen into a hole, and they lose S Selwood this week, and Claremont were good in their last match. Thornton should be better for the last run and I think he is a key for Perth, as without Mackenzie and Wilkes Claremont may struggle to find someone to man up on him. I'd say Perth at home, just, but I'm not overly confident.

West Perth v Peel - could also be a good match, with Peel retaining Schofield, but losing O'Brien. Can WP quell Ballantyne? and WP being as inconsistent as 7 other teams could be their chance to finally challenge for top 4. WP possibly losing Bradley, but no others you would have to back them in on this one.

EP v Subi - so which EP will turn up this week? Ah well, doesn't really matter because they won't get close to Subi, even with a string of injuries and Fletcher back to the Eagles. Although, the likes of Sweet, Wulff, Noakes, Glancy and Reynolds could make life very interesting for Subi, but Subi for mine.

Looks like a fine weekend for once so hope we all enjoy our footy this weekend and go the Mighty Black Ducks!:D or Ducklings as some are calling them.

Carn you Black Ducks. One feels that if we can manage to get our best side on the ground we could give the finals a shake. We should get Davis and I think we have to squeeze one more game out of Hansen for him to qualify.

That being said, I'm sure Niko and Feltcher would just about qualify for finals selection for Subi.

Firstly, if 2 of those umpires from today's game ever umpire a junior match again, let alone WAFL, I will not be held responsible for my actions!

Yes, you can tell that a EF had a couple of extra players, without breaking the interchange rules. Swans 3 players on report for legitimate hip and shoulders. Honestly, get the WD, GA labels out and put them on the jumpers. Naitanui reported and then free kicked (or not, if he was infringed upon) EVERY time he went near the ball. Rant over, but bottom line is that we didn't play all 4 quarters and East Freo kept running in numbers.

The Sharks running game was very good, had numbers around the ball at all contests today and then Spangher cleaned up in the back half and knew what he was doing with the ball each time he had it. He wasn't challenged until Notte was thrown forward after doing a super job in defence for Swans in the first half - 3/4's. Then Notte took a towering mark in the final quarter, up about 2 stories high whilst Spangher was about 1- 1 1/2 stories high. Then he kicked a superb goal from another marking contest with Spangher, where he kept his feet (or should I say knees) and Spangher ended flat on his belly. Agility is incredible for a 195cm player. Sorry Sharks supporters, but didn't get a budget, but numbers 36 and 17 were good goal sneaks when the Sharks were on their roll.

Other positives for Swans were that Clancee Pearce had a good debut, as did Todd Banfield and Jetta. Pearce was the standout, couple of goals and precision kicking off the HB line. Banfield is just a terrific little goer and, unlike Naita, didn't let the report bother him.:thumbsu:

Subi were far too good for East Perth. The Lions kicked the first five goals and were never really challenged from there on in, the Royals on the other hand were rather ordinary, especially in the third quarter where poor kicking and some bad decisions cost them which enabled Subi to kick 6.3 to the Royals' 0.1. Brad Smith had five goals to half-time but was held better after the main break by Luke Sampey. The Lions' midfield was rampant again with Chad Cossom leading the way with Greg Broughton, Shaun Hildebrandt and Adam Cockie giving great support. Smith was confronted by a fan shortly after the full-time siren but was quickly whisked away. Tim Noakes was East's best player with four goals while Hancock, Sampey and Brent Cowell tried hard.

West Perth had a hard-fought win over Peel. Peel fought back twice throughout the game but a goal to Brayden Duckworth sealed the match for the Falcons to give them a spot in the top four. Troy Longmuir had nine shots on goal for West Perth but could only kick three goals. Josh Pearce lead the West Perth midfield with a staggering 37 posessions, Jeff Goebbels also played well and Jason Salecic lead from the front with another good game as skipper. Hayden Ballantyne was very quiet until the second half in which he kicked all four of his goals. Victorian recruit Simon Rosa, Matt's older brother, was good for the Thunder with 26 disposals, Daniel Haines and Luke Hammond also had good games.

Claremont had another win, this time over a disappointing Perth. Perth looked the goods in the second quarter after Claremont were the better team in the first term. But, Claremont played some great football in the third quarter and consolidated their efforts in the last to win their fourth game of the year. The Jones', Anthony and Chad kicked three goals for the Tigers and goalsneak Ian Richardson kicked two. Jaxon Crabb lead the Tigers midfield with 31 disposals while Clancy Rudeforth had a good game in defence. Jarrod Kayler-Thomson has 34 posessions for the Demons with West Coast player Steven Armstrong having 29. Debutant Daniel Billson kicked three goals in what was a promising first up game.

East Perth's Ben Noakes will also front the tribunal after being charged with striking Rob Forrest after the final siren at Leederville Oval.

It's official, next week they will be wearing GA, GD, WA bibs over their jumpers, have peticures before the game and generally stop and say "after you" to the opposition player apporaching the ball. Banfields report was a joke in the first place and was very similar to Naita's.
