Has anyone ever stumbled upon a research piece into the frequency of blow out losses pre and post the 6-6-6 stand rule era?

Holding a finger to the breeze I reckon there's a lot more shellackings these days and they'll continue while the rules remain as they are. It's a downhill skiers wet dream. We would have pumped teams by triple digits regularly around 2015.

100 pt smashing is roughly 4 goals extra per quarter. One every 7-8 minutes you need to find on top of whatever the oppo scores. We're being conditioned to them given our diabolical side in the last 4 seasons but other clubs are copping big whacks as well.

The winning margin is definitely trending upwards in the past 6 seasons since 2019 (best to ignore the 2020 seasons for obvious reasons).

The thing is Adelaide absolutely crushed both those trades.

Dawson for pick 17 and Rankine for pick 5.

Meanwhile we were talking about Hawks first for 30 year old Cameron or 2 top 5 picks for Warner (before they re-signed).
Warner as a free agent and Harley is already on the list(on his own hes more star power than Dawson and Rankine combined)

Great that Steve Hocking and Gil celebrated ruining the game with this and the stand rule by giving each other a Dutch Rudder.

Thing about these short term draft what ifs is that Archer at Brisbane would be rated much more highly than Morris at West Coast.
Imagine Archer's set shots under the tutelage of Hipwood. :fire:

1) lost the intent to win (slow defensive action when turnover)
2) some fundamental decision were poor. For example, Shanahan should take his set shot at 40 metres out slight angle rather than passing to Ryan near boundary line with a lot sharper angle. (two more bad examples in WCE vs Adelaide game when Davis should kick a goal rather than hand passing to goal square...).
3) Bulldogs adopted more spread defence. As such, the eagles had more time and space to kick but instead continued to do the handballing and most of them are hospital handballing ending up a turnover. (They should train to create kicking to targets as well)
And Owies should be able to kick at least a point from 40m out 🙈🙈🙈🙈

He's also about 10cm shorter than Archer Reid. He was seen as being a "third tall", whereas Archer Reid was seen as being a genuine KPF.
Our recruiting staff obviously ignored Archer Reid's kicking issues. Experts on this panel have commented in the past that you can't improve a players kicking after they are 16yrs old.

It's funny, because if you go back and read all the draft profiles, there wasn't any slight on his kicking. His skills, in general, where rated highly. It was his physicality that was questioned, and his inconsistency. He was rated an early second round pick, which is exactly where he went.

But apparently, now, 14 games into his career and not-quite 20 years old, his kicking is so bad it's basically irredeemable and our recruiters are complete buffoons for choosing him.

Yeah, nah.

We've made plenty of selection blunders over recent years... I'm happy to give Reid a bit more of a chance before writing him off. And there is no value comparing him to Logan Morris, given how shit our midfield is.

I think you can improve your goal kicking for sure. BBW, was a liability as recently as last season, this year he is much improved. Kicking when the ball is in play seems to be far more of an issue to improve.

Anyway, that game was deflating, after the effort the week before to turn up and not deliver anything was so hard to watch.

Hey, I'm sympathetic to some of these guys... it's easy to forget that Hall has played less than 20 games, and is only in his second year. But he's shown almost zero indications that he's up to the level. As you point out, he's not quick and his decision making isn't great. It's his contested, inside work that's going to get him a spot in the team. If he can't break tackles, and he can't stick tackles... what's he doing? He needs to step up pretty quickly, because he doesn't have the versatility to play anywhere else.

Maybe a shift to the backline?
Im not sure traits such as: slow, poor decision maker, weak in the tackle would scream backline player.
Reckon he will get there as a mid but wont be a star..Another offseason in the gym will help with the tackling side of things and the decision making will improve natirally with more exposure to the pace of the AFL. Never going to be quick though but as an inside distributer he can get away with that.

Liam Duggan says "Hi".

Clay Hall was pick 38 in the 2023 draft and has played 15 games. Realistically he hasn't done anything so far to suggest he will be anything more than an average player at AFL level. Which is OK. Kamdyn McIntosh is finishing up this year and has played 212 games for 2 Brownlow votes (in his first year). Not every player comes in and is a future star.
