Rookies aren't recruited to be the future of the club, Thomas did all he could and wasn't disgraced, not many rookies turn out as well as Miles.
Rookies are players we take a punt on...While Thomas played as well as he could... He was a stop gap solution till we got a better player in his role... We have Miles now therefore as i stated i would only use thomas as a last resort..he is a B grade player at best...

Not disagreeing at all, in fact I feel we've used our rookies well recently, Orren, Thomas, Petterd and Miles have all offered something.:thumbsu:

We still have Riewoldt and Griffiths playing, plus all our other mids that rotate through the forward line.

We'll win the game in the middle, not forward. Thomas is the exact player you want crashing the packs trying to get a clearance to make Sydney second guess themselves about going in for the contest. Not only that but he's probably expendable if Jackson is fit.

It's the exact type of game Thomas thrives in.

No, I disagree with that. We will be winning the game if our forward line can kick a decent score. Obviously that requires the midfield to give them opportunities but it won't be the mids alone that get us over the line. Chaplin & Rance have big jobs to do as well.

Matt Thomas is the exact player you don't want getting games at this time of year. Thomas is the exact player you don't want in a game like this because he's an absolute s**t truck compared to the Sydney boys.

Doesn't matter, not selected and gone for surgery. :)

Surely Sydney would rather play Geelong up there than Freo? Geelong look vulnerable, Freo are a lot harder to beat.

Not really.

Board was pretty split actually when we did a poll.

We match up particularly well against Freo and they struggle to beat us at home.

Would much rather Freo than Port anyway which it will probably come down to.

Sydney will or won't make late changes dependant on Hawthorn's percentage after their game against Collingwood.

Theoretically, Hawthorn will have to win by a minimum 116 points to match the swan's percentage. This is if Collingwood don't score.
Realistically;
If the Pies score 40, hawks will need to score 174
If they score 50, hawks will need to score 188.
If they score 60, hawks will need 203.
Etc...if you want to try it yourself, the equation is
[100(2337+x)]/1690+y where x=points scored by Hawthorn and y=points scored by Collingwood.

Having said that, if we win it will lower Sydney's percentage slightly, but I can't see percentage being an issue for the swans myself.

How I see the sides lining up:
B: Morris Rance Grimes
F: Jetta Franklin Goodes

HB: Houli Chaplin Batchelor
HF: Cunningham Tippett Reid

C: Grigg Cotchin Conca
C: McVeigh Hanneberry Malceski

HF: Gordon Griffiths Deledio
HB: Shaw Grundy Smith

F: Petterd Riewoldt Martin
B: Rohan Richards Rampe

R: Maric Ellis Miles
R: Naismith Jack Parker

INT: Newman Edwards Foley
INT: Mitchell Lloyd Biggs

SUB: Vlastuin
SUB: Towers

I believe the Swans will try and stretch us in their forward line by loading up with talls from the first bounce. That means Franklin Tippett Goodes and Reid lining up on the ground. To counter this we'll use Rance Chaplin Grimes and Batchelor and it's no surprise to me that we have stuck with these 4 in the side the last 3 months, as I believe we wanted to get a backline that can handle the Swans set up without losing too much run. Grimes and Batchelor are both big enough and agile enough to take Reid and Goodes. I can see Cunningham going to Houli to try and counter his run, while Morris will get the job on Jetta.

In our forward half, I'm not shocked to see us go with the 2 talls and 4 running types, it has worked a treat the last 8 weeks and there is no reason to change it now. To counter I see the Swans using Smith on Deledio and Rampe on Martin when forward, while Rohan and Shaw will try to work off of Gordon and Petterd.

The midfield is going to be a real key to the game. We need Cotchin Edwards Miles & Foley to get on top of Hanneberry Parker Jack & Mitchell in the contested ball battle and feed it out to the likes of Ellis Grigg Houli Conca Deledio & Martin to get our game going the way we want it to work. If the Swans get on top and make it a real grinding battle I can see it being like the second half when we played them the first time around i.e. 250 disposals for 1 goal.

Some might be surprised to see Vlastuin as the sub again but when looking at the side and the roles that players would play Vlastuin as the sub is perfect for this week. As we saw the other week he can have a real impact as a sub coming on in the 3rd quarter, whether that is going into the midfield and just going hard for 40 minutes or slotting into a HBF and providing link up out of the back line.
Great post rt. you look at the lineups you've listed there and it's clear where we've got an advantage to exploit. Lids and Martin are keys. Rance must break even with buddy. And maric must dominate the centre clearances.

2 most damaging ins this week for us are numbers 8, 9 & 28. Those 3 are the blokes that are going to kill our chances. We never get a decent run with any one of those flogs.

Pennell easily the worst..... Far too tall to be an umpire! Stevic is a ripper, great guy as well....

Dimma said quite clearly that the call won't be made on Vickery until later. Said they'd pick a squad of 25 and decide over the next couple of days. We won't know for sure until they run out.

Lol Poort are s**t

With Naismith playing ruck with a bit if Tippett and Reid on the side plus Bird, JPK and Mcglynn being out you should be very confident of a win, in the form your in there should be no excuses now. I'm dropping $500 on Tigers win Under 39.5 @ $4.

 We'll be having words young man:p
