Well after bad kicking cost us against the Saints on Friday night, It made me look back at last year when We played another power house club in Geelong. Same round of footy (Round 3), we kicked 13.17.95. We had the game won and due to bad kicking lost the game. For the record on Friday night we kicked 4.17.41. After the Round 3 match last year I remember feeling the same way I did after Friday's match, we let a massive chance slip. The pleasing thing was we came out the next week (against Brisbane) kicked relatively straight and had a gutsy win. Hoping for the same this week against Hawthorn.

We need to kick Straight all the time not some of the time

I really hope so. I think bad kicking can become infectious in games. The pressure builds as you don't put the scoreboard pressure on and the players get rushed or nervous. Thats probably being kind on the players as I think our goal kicking efficiency isn't anywhere near where it needs to be.

This seems to be a never ending problem. Our kicking efficiency at goal always seems to be an issue. The fact that kicking accurately in the game is not the norm is not a good sign - we miss way too many kickable goals. This is a fairly big problem as it is demoralising not only for the person who misses the shot but for the entire team.

Also, I'd say the another round three struggle would be stopping Sam Mitchell, he kills us every time and I'd really prefer if we didn't concede him getting 40 touches and 10 clearances again. If I have hear Malthouse compare him to Greg Williams again I'm going to be annoyed.

This is a big match up for us. I say we play Beams head to head with him with the mission to stifle his influence.

Definitely an option, Beams is hard at it but it is a big task. Someone has to go with him in any case, I think whatever our plan in the past has been, do the opposite of that because it has failed miserably.
Hopefully luke ball being in the lineup will help against him in the clearances, he wouldn't be running with him of course but I think his inside clearance work will aide whoevers task it is to mind Mitchell.

Nah, I reckon we need to move away from thinking about one-to-one match-ups in the midfield. Have a look at Clinton Jones and Alan Didak last week. Did's went pretty well against the in-form tagger of the competition at the moment, but only because he had a half dozen teammates pummel Jones for a quarter. Same type of thinking applies here for Sam Mitchell. One player shutting down Mitchell is as easy one player shutting down Swan. Whilst difficult, it can be done, if more than one opposition player is involved.

I don't think Collingwood could move more away from the tagger concept if it tried. Yes Didak did alright but look what Jones did to harvey the week before and look what Baker did to Davis (I think) and what Ling does to his opponent every week. I think the problem with Collingwood is that if an opposition midfielder is having a day out it can be difficult to stop them quickly without specialist tagger.

This round is going to be a barometer for 2010. We've been gifted injuries to the Hawks, and we're playing at our best possible ground at The G. If we don't win this, or if we kick another inaccurate game - say goodbye to top 4. This has to be our bounce back game.

What happened to trialling Macaffer as a Tagger? If he holds his spot, this could be a task given to him! Could make his career..... Read the headline "Caff stops short people!"
