Agree with your first comment and strongly disagree with the second one.

Last night Scotty was an extra link man instead of just a leading forward, who did some very good things from what I saw. His chasing and in particular two great tackles in the last qtr when they were coming at us to keep the ball in the area. One turned into a goal.

My wife said the same. She thought I was too harsh on Welsh. She said I confused exhaustion for lack of committment. Maybe, his poor 2006 finals series still lingers.

Great match report as usual WW. :thumbsu: I look forward to them each week.

Pretty spot on in all areas, although I thought this was a bit harsh. We have to cut this kid some slack, in what was only his 7th game of AFL.

Mattner and McLeod also struggled to contain O'Keefe as well as Douglas - he has been asked to take on a huge task since Stiffy got injured.

Just stay with him because he does have all the goodies and long term will be an absolute beauty for our club. :) :thumbsu:

I agree ....and I did say that he'll be a very good player for us .......but he has to work on some areas of his game and I simply identified what I think are some issues with Doughlas now.

He was loose most of the night not just okeefe .....as I said it's part of his learning curve as to when to stick and when to work off his man .......I certainly wouldn't expect that he would have nailed this area of his game ATS

It still amazes me how some in the crowd still don't grasp the concept of tempo football. .

Define tempo football and panic football. I understand the idea of tempo football...doesnt mean I have to like it

I would argue that the slow-down tactic in the latter part of the third term might have actually won the game for the Crows.
Oh I can see this as well. I just liked the play on at all costs style that won us the game against the Bullies

I see your point PC. I think everyone likes the all out attacking football but under most circumstances, especially against top sides, you just can't sustain it for 4 quarters. Even though I don't like it, I take satisfaction in the fact that we are one of the best in the business at it. If you can't do it, and do it well, you are just making up the numbers.

Which is better, a team that goes flat out from the first bounce and invariably runs out of legs at some stage in the third quarter, by that time hoping to have a match winning lead on the board. Or a team that plays tempo football, and can time it's attacking play depending on the scorboard and/or it's level of tiredness. Which is better, i'm not sure. Both can be high risk. Luckily for us, we play both styles ( attack and tempo ) better than most.

I agree that Douglas had a bit of a stinker but he is a good prospect who will be a great little player for us in time. He will get better with more experience and with better feel of the pace of the game. He will be good but he was struggling last night.

For me, Griffin showed just how much potential he has. He was dominant in the center square but due to his thin frame, he does struggle at times in boundary throw ins and other ruck contests where he has to wrestle rather than use his leap. He was struggling big time last week but he bounced back with real conviction last night. He was up against a pretty good ruck duo in Spider and Jolly. The only fault in his game was being caught sleeping when Jolly drifted forward to kick his 2nd goal in as many minutes.

Overall, a great game by Griff and once he puts on more weight he will be one of THE best ruckman in the comp. A real gem.

McLeod was just vintage!

Rutten was superb. To me it was very enjoyable to watch him go head to head with Hall. Best duel of the night IMHO. Exceptional 4 quarter effort from a player who was in doubt going into the game. He is in AA form at the moment.

Van Berlo has the future captaincy just about stitched up. You have to love the way this kid goes about his footy. Puts his body on the line and how good was that front on tackle on Goodes?! :thumbsu:

I thought he was instrumental in the last quarter. Not so much with his possesions but with his 1%ers. The little sheppards, tap ons, etc... Half of his possesions were contested and he had something like 5 or 6 inside 50s.

Speaking of 1%ers, the best one of the night was Porplyzia's chase down tackle on Goodes. Inspirational stuff :thumbsu:

Knights just keeps getting better and better. Going to the game, I said that this game would give us great indication of where Knights is at because we would be coming up against an opponent that are notoriously tough, tackle hard, pressure hard and it was a great opportunity for Knights to show that he can handle that extra pressure. He passed with flying colours. He didn't get as much of it as he did in previous weeks but he used it to perfection and looked like a season veteran out there. Exposed of the ball very well and didn't panic under pressure. A sign of a great player :thumbsu:

Reilly is another one that has found the consistency. He has been great so far this year. Reilly and Thommo have been great so far and this has allowed the likes of Goodwin and Edwards to ease off their workload in the guts. A great result of the club that these boys are stepping up and winning the games of footy for us.

Ian Perrie cops a lot of unwarranted shit from supporters but he makes my team every day of the week. Sure he will have a stinker or 2 during the year but he will play more good games than bad. He was fantastic last night withi his contests and ability to at least bring the ball to the ground for the small players.

Welsh was also great and his workrate, especially defensively was a top notch. Played more as a linkman accross half forward but still managed a couple of goals and applied great defensive pressure.

Overall it was a great game of footy for the purists. A tough contests that was a times ruined by some of the worst umpiting that I have ever seen. The umpiring last night was nothing short of disgraceful. Too many soft frees paid for both sides and too many legit frees were missed for both sides. The umpiring last night was an absolute garbarge :thumbsd:

Anyone else think the crows got a raw deal from the umpires (2 weeks in a row now!)?

In this case it was frees and marks NOT paid to the crows at around the halfway point of the final quarter - saw about 5 or 6 non decisions.

Porps mark at the end not paid (hall got a shot on goal as a result) several tackes on crows players without the ball on the wing, non holding the ball decisions around half forward.

Thank god sydney didn't kick straight, as those decisions would have made the difference if that had been the case.

Totally agree about the non-decisions in that period. It had the potential to possibly cost us the game.

I was starting to wonder if we were invisible.

Umpiring in general is at an all time low IMO. :thumbsd:

The mark not paid to Porps was one of the worst decision you'll see.

Anyway, myself and the people I was watching it with got a bit annoyed with the crowd booing us in the third quarter. When momentum shifts, and we want the ball in hand to try and slow it down and get our act back together, we should be cheering. It means we're adjusting to the game situation and we're trying to regain control.

My faith in our kids is growing on a weekly basis. So much so that we should give up our first couple of picks in this years draft and try for the Pav again - I can't really see where we have a genuine weakness at the moment (assuming Henstchel comes good, and Sellar/Tippett develop).

Guess which future captain was switched on to him late in the game and managed to keep him quiet

Trivial observation from Saturday night's game so please feel free to ignore but thought I'd post it anyway.

When Bock tried to soccer through a miracle goal at the nothern end he sent the ball out on the full with Burton screaming for it in the goalsquare. I know it is part of Craig's set up that the players are encouraged to give each other open, honest and constructive feedback. Burton certainly gave Bock some fairly abrupt 'feedback' soon after on some other options he could have perhaps considered.

Later in the game a Sydney player took a mark in our forward line. Both Bock and Burton ran to the mark and Burton indicated that he'd take the mark and Bock should run back towards the 50 to man up on someone else. Bock wouldn't have a bar of it. He indicated No, I'll stay here and you go and chase the other bloke. I love the Birdman but I reckon he'd get on people's nerves at times.

Highly ironic that the Birdman would scream at someone for trying the impossible rather than pass to a teammate in a better position.

And then a bit later in the night he tried the impossible with Bock or someone calling for the ball. Talk about double standards Brett.

Burton drives me insane and he's kidding himself if he thinks he's a chance for the captaincy.
