Autopsy Round 4 vs Adelaide - what did you learn?

I like him, but Jones had even less impact than McVeigh the week before against GWS so that may have affected their thinking. I think the coaching staff still overrate Towers because of his pace, but the rest of his game hasn't caught up.
Jones played well in the previous two games, and what I like about him is he is not afraid to straighten us up with piercing kicks off hb into the corridor.

I'm a McVeigh fan, but I was worried before the match about him being underdone, and I think that was evident, but anyway, a kick here or there and we could've won.

My real fear is after such a gallant loss we sometimes fall to pieces the week after, which I'd hate to see against the Cokers.

It's the added element of human error it happens in every sport, look at when Kasprowicz was given out caught by the keeper at the famous ashes 2005 test when the ball hit the hand while it wasn't on the bat.

People just point out the umpires as its the thing that you remember, the thing that stands out and ignore all the little things which lead up to that moment.

You are absolutely correct, but at times I do wonder if the external perception of us really does affect the way our games are umpired, or if the umpiring simply stands out to us more as fans.

I think its me, every sporting team I support gets a bad deal from umpires and officials

Suspect its a conspiracy against me

I do look at Barry Hall for instance a defender would literally have to punch him in the face for Hall to get a free while some forwards you touch them and its a free.

What was wrong with the second goal?

The first one was a harsh call on holding the ball, BUT it's consistent with how they've umpired so far this season. Ball in two hands, both arms free, no attempt to dispose of it. Not nearly as harsh as the Swans "Not 15" call followed by HTB decision, the "play on" call against Jack who was immediately tackled by someone standing 1m behind him (protected zone anyone?), or Eddie's hands in the back.

BUT... as I said straight after the game - we had more than enough chances to win the game and the Crows were too good. Fully deserved winners.
You could work out the distance of the kick from the mowing strip in relationship to the goals. You get a distance of about 16 or 17 meters, not 14. I saw two similar calls in a row against the Saints which handed the game to the Hawks, who were a beaten side at the time.

Never quite seen anything so blatant as the Saints decision. I visualised a Swiss bank account going "keching keching" at the time.

Yep. Re the HTB call following Swans "Not 15" kickout, freeze frame it and it's quite clear that with the distance between goalposts being 6.4 meters, it's easily twice that.

Yeh it was a joke.

Personally I can cop the odd one in general play but the randomness of that decision really hurt. They need either an arc or dots or something for the kick ins.

Yep. I always used to get so riled up... they'd be hanging from Bazzas arms, putting him in headlocks, jumping all over him & the umpires would leave it. He'd throw one of the jokers off his back or push back so he could lead or something and BAM, whistle & free against Baz. Was a crock of shit. No wonder the poor bloke ended up belting someone. I'd have done it years before he did.

Ironic thing is if you watch before Hall threw the punch Staker was holding him had the ump called a free the incident never would of happened.

Not suggesting in any way what Hall did was acceptable btw what he did was disgraceful.

He warned him 4 times, don't hang on or your going to get it

That's garbage mate. Tippet was awesome for us that night dominating Sam Jacobs. He's been one of our best for a while now, hardly fragile.
Hey, I'm a Kurt Tippett fan. I shook his hand at Adelaide airport and wished him good luck as crow fans booed him. But he had two golden opportunities to take a mark right in front of goals against a much smaller guy and barely touched either of them. I'm convinced the crowd was in his head at that point of the game.
And there was nothing wrong with Hanners kick. Tippet didn't read it.

Yeah, he was a tad off and I think they got to him a little... What do you know, he's human after all!

More importantly I think he had to cover the loss of Sinkers which meant he was a bit more fatigued than usual and while he's been good the last few weeks he hasn't really been clunking marks lately either. I don't think he's made any serious blunders, just a high pressure game with him carrying more of the load than the last few weeks and the mental pressure of facing his old club and hostile crowd. All in all, I think he did well. Not great, but stuggled hard against a high pressure opponent.

I think one of the balls swirled in the air a little. Perhaps it was hanners.

He moved towards the ball but then it hung in the air a little and went over his head. Dont think it was a direct trajectory.

In saying that, i think he played the game many times over in his head and the occasion got the better of him. The positive is, hes experienced it in a h&a game so hopefully he's taken something away from it so when he experiences that situation again he'll be better equipped to work through it.
