He did not look ready for AFL football last night.

People were excited about a player they had never seen play before, and after last night, it was clear he needs more time in the 2nds before playing regular senior football.
Not a very good way to build confidence in the kid.
Back in Noosa now, he'll review and be better prepared for the pace of it next week.

Can't believe all ya'll saying Byrnes should be dropped. Such a fickle place this is.
As I said in the game thread, I've been his bigg e st fan since the the start of last year but he looked a long way off it last night.

We'd get a lot more out of Hannebery or Sinclair.

He'll be better for the run and will get another crack down the track.

I'm more interested in winning than selecting the side to build Byrnes confidence.
One of the commentators last night didn't get a possession in his first game. Selectors thought Byrnes was good enough to deserve a game - should get another run next week.

Steele is slowly turning into a elite midfielder - who was the last St Kilda to get 20 contested possessions in a game.

The Crows gave away Greenwood to the Suns and by the looks they should of kept him.

Without VFL he might not get another run this year, and you'd expect he's going to be in competition with Bytel for a spot later on.
Poor faith by match committee if they drop him.

I don't want him dropped but can we afford to carry another player , when we do have a few options to bring in that might make us more potent.
Sinclair should be ready to come in and make a statement to say why he should be in the side and if Hannerbery is ready he should be brought back in as well.

I won't harp on it this week, but Hanners can come in for a different player. And a good point made in the Autopsy thread, that Byrnes got burned on a couple of occasions after working himself into the right positions. He did better than his stats imply.

Byrnes got some praise from Ratts in the press conference. Could read it two ways. A softener for being dropped this week, or justification for keeping him in and dropping another more well-credentialed mid. I'm leaning towards the former, although could have also meant nothing by it.

Hope he gets to stay in the team , swap with Lonie.
If Dunstan or Hannebery could play I'm pretty sure Ross would be dropped , but seeing we don't have any real strong mids they will keep him in the side.
Battle will be replaced by Sinclair due to injury.

Well some are. I e never been one for giving players a certain amount of games and the reason was exactly what happened last night. Well off the pace and if hanners is back I think he goes. If no one is back then he may stay or they may swap with bytel. I do agree though that I’ve seen some who wanted a run of games now saying he should go.

You would have to think after this game we'll have a few in Queensland. I think we'll save Hannebery for one more week.

Great for Byrnes to see what the pace of AFL football is. Now he can go back and work on his craft and be ready for next time.

If Sinclair is in some form I think he's a good one to use. He can play a few different roles. Bytel debut will come, but we saw from the last game, Adelaide Oval the game is hot and fast. As much as I doubt we will beat Port, we have to go all out for the win here because if we do win, we are well in it this year.

There'll be a couple of changes this week anyway, so we'll see. I thought he did some good things even though it wasn't his night.

Well as much as I do like the wins, I'm far more interested in having a premiership team assembled ASAP.
Let Hanners or Sincs come in for Ross and give Ronnie a fair run at it.
We are much more likely to build a premiership team if they taste success.

At the moment we haven't played finals for 9 years.

Playing finals this year would be huge for the club and the players.

Every win is crucial from now on. If Ratten thinks we are more likely to win with Hannebery in and Byrnes out then that's what we should do.

Just read through the above, am i missing something ? Hill not mentioned in any of the above outs:

i can accept a player not getting touches that's not the whole aspect of a game, but when you are down on form surly you try to work into a game? Hill has been nothing short of average.

v Carlton = 8 touches 155 meters gain 0 tackles
v Freo = 11 touches 157 meters gain 0 tackles
V Crows = 12 touches 137 meters gain 1 tackle

right now as far as our off season recruits go i reckon

Butler
howard
Jones

All above Hill, Just my opinion, but at least look interested ?

maybe im ranting so hard because im still so disappointed with that level of umpiring.

I think we should play hill off half back in longs spot for the next 2 weeks

Dont think it'll work. Hill hasn't got a defensive bone in his body. Last 2 weeks Ross has been quite poor. For a mid to get 21 possessions in 2 weeks is unacceptable. Needs a rocket so should be dropped for Hanners. Hopefully Battle is right which means Byrnes stays in for another game or makes way for Sincs.

I think if we could somehow morph Ross Lyon and Seb Ross, and create ourselves a Ross Ross, we could possibly reduce the number of negative posts.

Alternatively, the place might completely explode 🤔

We were down a player for most of the game with Battle injured and got very little from Byrnes, we got away with it against a shit side like the Crows but we can't afford that against a good side like Port where we'll need 22 contributors. I doubt Ross and Hill will be dropped but we need a bigger contribution from them also.

Hopefully we get different umpires for this game too rather than the work experience clowns we got last night, with it being the FTA Saturday night game you'd like to think we will get better umpires..

Sadly we had 2 of the better umpires. I think like players they are effected by COVID.

Guys like johennesen etc don't defend.

Playing hill off half back and him playing as a defender are two different things in my view.

Hill can be told to play his own game, just running up and down the guts of the ground rather than on the sidelines.

Sounds like a wingman to me. Guys of the ground doesn’t get to many kicks these days. The game is played on the boundary.
