This week trade has done my head in.You don't have to, though. Seeing so many people go early on speculative rooks in order to make a marginal upgrade like Flynn to Warner, Cerra/Daniel to another premo or something silly like TDK to Gawn.
In all of those instances, there's every chance the player being traded out outscores the one being traded in this week, for the price of:
Look, I get it if you have a non-keeper with an astronomical BE (and if your bench is looking pretty solid currently), but it really isn't the end of the world if you need to hold for a week. Worst case scenario if you hold - lose ~50-70 points (a likely overestimation) from an extra rookie on-field, worst case scenario if you go early on somebody who doesn't even get a price rise and is a dead rook as we approach the byes.
- Bringing in a potential dead rookie who may not even make any cash (which will also leave people short across the byes)
- Turfing an uninjured player who is still scoring well
- Extending the cycle of going early - those grabbing Box/Fonti, if it pays off, are going to have less options next week and quite possibly find themselves in the same situation in a few days' time.
I will admit that I'm probably up on my pedestal a bit as I didn't go early on HH last week so don't have to make the call, but I can just see so many people getting to the byes with 5-6 dead rookies which is going to make finishing teams (well) extremely difficult.
It came down to two options, very marginal but I'm not too sure which is better
Option A
- Out: Cerra & Campo - In: Warner & HH
- Gets rid off a dead rookie Campo & RD12 bye player with a high BE
- But, is it much of an upgrade to go Cerra to Warner?
- Campo is a dead rookie - but, has no $$$ value - let him rot on the bench
Option B
- Out: SPP & Tsatsa - In: Warner & HH
- Better upgrade trades
- Tsatsa is dropped this week but, will Tsatsa be in the next few weeks and through the byes? He may be useful later on
