Round robin reflections

We limped into the finals, but were lucky enough to beat Hawthorn after resting most of our players 2 weeks earlier in Launceston.
Lucky!! It was a shellacking. We beat Carlton, a top 8 side in Round 22, then flogged Hawthorn in the EF.

My assessment is this, we are not having a very good pre-season and we were totally unprepared on Sunday. We butchered the ball, turned it over and made Tom Swift and Mark Nikoski look talented.

The team just didn't gel at all and we looked "all at sea" in both games.
I disagree. I thought we moved the ball really well, and we kept butchering the final pass into the 50. But we weren't all at sea. But, I only went to the games and then watched them both on TV afterwards though.

Seriously, look closely and you can see we were moving the ball on at all costs. There seemed a lot more emphasis on moving the ball than last year.

Its also a possible that take Mundy, Ibbo, Barlow, Roberton out and put Schammer, Palmer, Lower, etc in and we aren't going to improve the skill level any. One might suggest that putting Schammer in ... anyway if you want a good Schammer vignette, watch him when matched up to Rioli who makes him look like the average WAFL player he is.

The embarrassing thing was the ribbing that we copped from the Eagles supporters sitting in front of us who thought they had won another premiership once the siren went at the end of the game.

I really hope we can turn things around before the season starts proper.

As Kent Brockman says......"That's my two cents"
Your view is worth 2c but not much more ;)

And FFS, harden up. If a few Eagles supporters can make you feel down after a NAB cup win then you may not make it as a Dockers supporter. Besdies we would be grasping at straws if we came last in 2010.

I've taken my prescription from the Doctor, and feel better already! It's the NAB Cup:eek: and Harves didn't look stressed to me (a little perplexed at times to be sure). Those who didn't put their hand up on Sunday (I'm looking at you Mr Lower) now get the chance to do so in less comfortable surrounds on the minor league circuit, where we'll find out a lot more.

Seven weeks to go and plenty of time to get our act together (and for injuries to heal).

I am totally confused.WOW and people here complain about how bad the Journos are on reporting the games.
Palmer was good:Palmer was bad
Palmer good disposal:Palmer bad Disposal.
You all watched the game which was it.Either you all take too much notice of others or some have no idea.
Faulks was good but lacked running power.
Faulks was a no hoper, why did we pick him.
Which is it.
It appears to me that the only one that you all agree on was Mzunga.

Its easy to agree on Mzungu because its so obvious that he oozes quality, even so one poster considers that we are all exaggerating and that he will be average at best, go figure.

Assessment of the game varied depending on whether you were there or watching on tv, that's pretty normal really. Some also have different opinions and, in general, after you've been hanging out so long to see the team or a particular player in action you see what you want to see.

Palmer did well because he covered a lot of ground, but his disposal is still off. I saw two handballs in a row miss their target, a kick that was spot on and a wild shot at goal. I say Faulkes did well, others say he was serviceable, I didn't notice anybody saying he was a no hoper (perhaps a draft thread pre-game?). I also say Mayne was good, but it seems I'm a lone voice. Perhaps I'm just happy that he's not injured any more.

We might be a little scattered in our final assessments, but at least we know the difference between west coast and hawthorn, we know who our players are and most of us know how to pronounce Mzungu. ;)

correct me if I'm wrong but I thought it was pronounced Mi-zoon-goo, not Ma-zun-goo like those rubbish commentators on Foxtel were calling him during the game.

I was cringing when they would commentate a passage of play: "Clarke gets the tap to Mcphee who whips it away... *awkward pause* Palmer switches play after the ball was passed from *pause* Lower.

Gotta laugh at the umpire giving the 50m against Swift for spraying the kick back to Palmer. That's the best kick I have seen Swift pull off to date.

I believe that your pronunciation is correct, with the oo sounded the same as in book. The commentators didn't get it right once, with one even called him Ma-zun-go.

I keep harping on about it, but if that's their job they should try and do it properly. That and commentate the game instead of telling us what they had for lunch/did on their holidays/used to do when they were playing etc, etc, etc.

dudes, where does one watch replays of nab cup games on the internet? i can't seem to find it on the afl site. thanks in advance.

My thoughts exactly the swiftmyster was trying to kick it back to Palms. But sadly it was followed up by an equally poor kick at goal.

Just visiting from the Eagles board to praise young Mzungu. He looks as if he will be a long term class player for you guys. Easy to see why you traded for him with the Suns. Oh, and good kuck for the coming season( except against the Eagles, of course !:))

Hey guys,
Long time reader but just decided to join cause i was bored lol

I sat on top of the eagles bench for sometime and can tell u that afl players dont like copping talk lol, We gave it to pretty much everyone to the point where swift and others started yelling back to us, Was lulz , longmuir was good fun but :)

Anyways to the game
Mzungu- absolute star, from the first minute with 3-4 possessions
mitchie- really liked him coming out of defence in the 2nd game, didnt miss a target in that time of that i can remember
Clarke and to a degree griffin were good, just thought the whole 2 rucks in the centre was too worsfold and didnt do alot for me
The whole team of giants was always gonna look slow and have very little pressure which i guess u can understand
Thought anthony tried really hard, specially on the two tackle attempts in hawks game
Lower got it but didnt do alot with it,
Faulks was good lol didnt notice him alot which means he didnt make many mistakes :)
The usual suspects were good , i.e broughton mcphar
The skills were very poor imo, the only passage of play that was remotely freo was the link from the kik in to attack which was pretty much all the older playrs, from memory, duff-john-mchparlin to someone lol

van berlo critchon schammer clancee all played shocking
thought mcphee was good, much better skills then some,
Didnt see the point of bringing pav and sandi in, they played about 15 mins tops.
Was pretty average but im not really concerned. as someone said, hill fyfe, roberton mundy balla walters de boer are all small pressure applying machines.
if we could for the love of god have no more injuries things arent looking as bad as sunday night,

p.s wat was with bolle taking kik ins?

Bollenhagen spent most of his junior football days playing across half back and the wing. Because he has near elite disposal yet never really playing at a high level (State U18 or SANFL seniors), he basically did what he wanted in that 'quarterback' type role like Hodge or Gilbee.

After developing him as a half forward, it wouldn't surprise me if Fremantle were now looking to develop his natural rebounding game for the sake of versatility.
