Player's I would be happy with:

Round 1

Dom Sheed -
#West Coast - Dominic Sheed (WA – Mid)
Height: 183cm, Weight: 82kg, DOB: 10/03/1995
Recruited from: Subiaco
Style: Simon Black
Player comparison:
Range: 3-15
Classy player good vision, good at clearances and gets foward to kick goals.
Tackles nicely is one paced left footer.

Ben Lennon (VIC – Util)
Height: 187cm, Weight: 79kg, DOB: 05/06/1995
Recruited from: Northern Knights
Style: Shannon Hurn
Player comparison:
Range: 5-15
Big half foward sized like a Andrew Embley has a wonderful kick on him, in the Hurn class.
Has very good pace, leads very well and never misses. Has played midfield in the TAC and that
is where his future is.
Versitile can play anyway on the field.

Marcus Bontempelli (VIC – Mid/Def)
Height: 191cm, Weight: 83kg, DOB: 24/11/1995
Recruited from: Northern Knights
Style: Brett Deledio
Player comparison:
Range: 3-10
Profile: Bontempelli is a very athletic tall. Bontempelli can really break the lines with his pace but also has a nice leap on him making him a weapon in the air when he pushes forward. He has a nice combination of athletic gifts with above average speed, agility and endurance at his height. Has some real penetration on that left foot and has the ability to do some major damage.
I would rather this kid than Sheed at the moment.

Luke Dunstan (SA –Mid/Fwd)
Height: 185cm, Weight: 83kg, DOB: 29/01/1995
Recruited from: Woodville-West Torrens
Style: Dustin Martin (Without the problems)
Player comparison:
Range: 3-15
Profile: Dunstan is a dominant inside midfielder with a strong body. Has future captain potential having captained SA through the u18 championships and is highly regarded for his leadership abilities. Big time accumulator and a natural inside ball winner. Has very clean hands and is also an excellent inside extractor and will play a big part in winning those clearances consistently. Not only is Dunstan an exceptional inside player but he can also swing forward, take a mark and hit the scoreboard when given the opportunity and I expect he will continue to be a very damaging player at the next level. Above average kick but his strength by foot is in his ability to finish around goal or any time within range. Ready to play from season one.

Dayle Gartlett WA
Height: 181cm Weight 79kg
Draft Range 8 to 40

Super talent something WCE needs probably second round plus pick than first.
The more I hear the more I hear he's not first a round pick

Second Round Picks

Jonathon Marsh (WA – KPF/Util)
Height: 191cm, Weight: 89kg, DOB: 17/10/1995
Recruited from: East Fremantle
Draft range 8 to 25
He is a third foward or midfielder has elite burst speed and loves to take the game on.
Xfactor kid can turn a game on its head with that ability to make something from nothing.
Jono may be a first round pick still hard to judge where clubs see him as he not a genuine KP.

Patrick Cripps (188cm, 88kg midfielder - East Fremantle)
Draft range 15 to 40

Big bodied midfielder who is a lovely kick of the footy and has some burst speed from stoppages.
He's a beast at the footy, and is a clearance machine, very different player to his brother.
He strong stands up in tackles gets his arm free and delivers the footy well.

Blake Acres (WA – Mid/Util)Height: 188cm, Weight: 84kg, DOB: 07/10/1995
Recruited from: West Perth
Style:
Player comparison:
Range: 20-35
Profile: Acres is a high production outside player with some real versatility and the ability to play through the midfield, up forward or down back well. Finds it effortlessly on the outside. Very effective as a linkup player and is a really clean user of the footy and very composed with ball in hand finding the right target every time. Willing to take the game on and shows some ability with his run and carry.
This is my favourite kid from the draft will be a special talent runs all day, lovely kick under pressure, great overhead mark with excellent pace. He's a great size I think he's at his best when played in the centre.
Has suffered shoulders problems all year and may need surgery this is why he will drop in the standings

Christian Salem (VIC - Mid)
Height: 183cm, Weight: 82kg, DOB: 15/07/1995
Recruited from: Sandringham Dragons
Style:
Player comparison: Luke Tapscott (more athletic)
Range: 10-30
Profile: Midfielder with a real physical presence and physical way of playing. I also really enjoy Salem’s tackling game, he just hunts the man and you can see he really enjoys it, and he does big damage every time he lays a tackle and it’s a real feature of his game. When it’s his turn to go he goes, whether it be a marking contest where he knows he will get crushed or going for the hard ball he will put his head over it and just go for it. He also does some really impressive work at times with some good blocking or bumps on or off the footy where required and just has that hard edge you love to see. Damaging user of the footy with ball in hand with his footskills excellent. More outside than inside at this stage and the next step will be to develop that inside game.

Nathan Freeman (VIC – Mid)Height: 181cm, Weight: 85kg, DOB: 16/06/1995
Recruited from: Sandringham Dragons
Style: Patrick Dangerfield
Player comparison:
Range: 15-29
Profile: Absolute dynamite midfielder and in my view outside of Jack Martin I strongly believe Freeman will become the best midfielder in this draft class. Other than Patrick Dangerfield and Chris Judd no player even compares with what Freeman does in the contest from an explosive standpoint. Freeman as Dangerfield does wins all the contested ball and is an absolute clearance machine but he’s a guy who has that rare combination of inside game and extreme explosiveness with his pace, agility and sidestep all as good as you’ll see. In addition to that explosiveness Freeman has a real hardness to him with the way he attacks the footy and contest. Also features of Freeman’s game is his ability to take grabs overhead and his 1v1 ability. He can push forward and hit the scoreboard in a big way particularly enjoying those finishes on the run streaming into goal or running to the 50 and going long for the goal. In short this guy has all the tricks and other than Jack Martin is that only other midfielder I see as a genuine game changer.

Third round

Darcy Cameron (203cm, 98kg ruckman - Claremont)
Draft Range 25 to 45

The best ruckman in this draft Albany boy he is a good mover.
He is a great mark of the footy.
Can play as a foward as well reads the play well and is good at timing his leads.
Will need a few years to develop but should come on well.
Ruck talent is very very thin this draft as well as next year.

Nicholas Robertson (WA – Util)
Height: 188cm, Weight: 83kg, DOB: 03/06/1995
Recruited from: West Perth

Another inside/outside mid good pace strong attack on the footy.
Is a endurance athlete runs all day, missed the championship due to shoulder operation and is out for most of this year.
That's the reason he will drop, that along with him being not a great interview.
He is another kid I would like.

Rookies

Dylan Loo (184cm, 75kg midfielder - Perth)

A strong mid Dylan opted out of the AIS squad and dropped out of footy has come back now
to colts. Is a undoubted talent that if we get right could be one of those rookie gems has a lot
to work with, electric pace.

Byron Sumner 178cm SA

A uitlity player was on sydney list is a lovely left foot kick with great penetration.
Would like him picked up as a small back pocket

These are the kids I would like. A mix of these kids would be great I actually think the WA kids
are a better bet this draft.

A draft of,
Bontempelli
Blake Acres
Dayle Gartlett
Nicholas Robertson

The above would make me very happy.

Also Guys quite a few of the Victorian player profiles where provided by Knightmare as I couldn't be bothered to take the time to wright them all out.
So thanks Knightmare.

It's July...going a bit early aren't you?

Perhaps this thread would be better titled "Players to keep an eye on"...

Probably UD.
But wanted others to know this is a very good midfielder's draft, and throwing away
draft picks for a Conca type is silly there better players we can draft this year.
And there is players that meet our needs in this draft.

It's a deep midfielder's draft, and ironically given a lot of our rivals beneath us are lacking in several other areas that will force them overlook some key talent (Whereas our midfield is our central failing and concern), we could cash in quite well if we play our cards right.

I'm no expert but Marsh is definitely an intriguing one.
Not many players with that combination of pace and height/size in the middle (if that's where he ends up). The fact that he can swing forward would be a bonus too.
Hopefully the uncertainty about his position and height helps him slide.

I love the balance of those preferred selections at the end. However that third pick will be around 42 in the draft and the fourth around pick 60. Even with the shoulder and personality problems Robertson would be a rare pick 60. Hell id take him in the second round if we had two picks there.

Which is why i wouldn't be all that concerned if Brown left to be honest. If we landed a pick between 24 and 34 would be pretty useful and the chances of getting a Robertson at 42 are a lot better than at pick 60.

Darcy Cameron is an interesting one. He didn't go AA and he was beaten in the ruck a lot but he's great around the ground and has a lot of potential. I've no idea where he should go or will.

If i was GWS I'd take him at the end of the first round at 19. The fact they have such strong KP and midfield depth means they'll be crying out for guys to fill in roles as third talls and flankers. If he becomes a midfielder or KP then that's a bonus.

He'll also be on Fremantles list if they think he's a forward option.

When I think upon Jonathon Marsh being used as a midfielder, I think of Scott Thompson with a burst of speed, for he's got the height, the size and strength to have a bullocking grunt style and a burst of speed to bring something to WC's midfield that they don't have nearly enough of. Forget the role he played as a junior, turn him into a midfielder. His role as a junior will provide a leg-up when it comes to his ability to rotate when resting. His junior role can be a fall back option if he's a flop as an out-an-out midfielder. Depending on who's left to choose from and whether he's available at WC's 2nd round pick, he might be worth the risk taking him to be used as a midfielder, considering the type of attributes as a midfielder that WC desperately need.

Given the depth of midfield talent in this draft and WC's dire need of midfield talent, having another selection around the early-mid 20's mark would be extremely useful. Trading Brown for St Kilda's 2nd round pick would be ideal, IMO.

Maybe looking early this time we might not recruit the likes of another "Tony Notte" and to be honest we will not be playing come finals time so may as well tank now too.

All the write ups I have seen on Freeman make it sound as if the Eagles would have to be VERY lucky to get him as a 2nd round pick !

I was really impressed with what I saw of Nicholas Robertson last year. I honestly thought he would overtake Sheed as a draft prospect but that never happened. In the 3rd round he would be a massive steal, I doubt he lasts that long.

Also I am probably less interested in Garlett than last year, which was a weak draft where we could have picked him up cheap. This year is a much stronger draft and to get him would probably require a midround pick.

I reckon we should just pick the guys with the coolest names. You can already tell Marcus Bontempelli is going to be a star.

FFS! Do you think our scouts/recruiters are not out there assessing talent at this stage of the season? Or any season for that matter?

I can guarantee you that NO team has ever decided on their selections in July!

couldn't agree more. In particular first two round selections are the exact guys I think we should target.

Salem, Freeman or Acres would all be wins for 2nd pick imo.

Well Captain Obvious tell me how we missed Fyfe ? Sheppard really ? Fyfe is exactly what we need right now.

What does a "mid round pick" mean?

Mid 1st round, mid 2nd round????

If this year is strong with mids then Garlett would slide as he's a mid / forward. If no one touched him due to 'off field issues' last season I can't see him leaping into the 1st round ahead of this years talent.

When the Bombers lose all their picks but need to change the mandatory 3 players their first pick will be pick 100 in the draft. In this scenario they would jump at a Garlett type IMO.

If he goes I think it will no earlier than a 3rd round selection.

Fyfe was never really in consideration for picks as high as 7; his stock was always in the 15-30 range.
Successful 'reaches' like Dangerfield are the exception, rather than the expectation.
The next year we got Darling while they selected Jayden Pitt instead, who has barely fired a shot, or at least has done a lot less than Sheppard. Swings and roundabouts.
