Royal Rumble (2016)

There are less than a handful of healthy guys on the roster that have the star power and drawing ability to main even Wrestlemania. The sad reality is Triple H is one of them. I think it's the right call. Pity he'll get cheered and the guy they've invested hundreds of hours of tv time to get over as a face will get booed.

I think hhhs 'star power' and 'drawing ability' are grossly overrated. Like everything else about him.

Doubt theres more than a handful of diehard trip fans that go to shows because he's on the bill nowadays

Guys please.. Remember his match vs String was nominated for match of the year Slammy... So you know.. He has still got it

The problem the WWE have is they don't push the right people, they give Roman Reigns chance after chance after chance despite no one liking him

Rollins was given the belt and he stood up but was given nothing, did his best with horrible booking but then got injured. Now if the WWE had given some other guys a chance against him and pushed them towards the title then maybe we would have had other options when injuries strike. But instead he feuds with Kane, Reigns, Sting and Lesnar.

Now of course Lesnar has been built up so much they need to keep him at arms length from the title or use triple threat matches so he doesn't get pinned but can't have the belt being a part timer.

Kane is a joke

Sting, well I enjoyed it but really it was a short term thing that ended badly due to injury but was really just another sign they don't want to push anyone else and Rollins was in a holding pattern until he lost to Reigns

Now if they had allowed Owens to go over Cena in the end and maybe interact with Rollins, put his name up there and give him a chance then he becomes an option. Ditto with Bray Wyatt who gets good feuds but ends up the loser in them all and is just a circus act now.

Dean Ambrose is always up there as the fall guy, they have never given him a chance except to lose and yet again he is set up to take the pin at Fast Lane so Lesnar doesn't have to.

Sheamus was actually ok in his brief reign but clearly he was only there to hold it for Reigns so ended up a joke and now whats happened to him? Gone from the champ to just part of a stable who beat Reigns up whilst HHH gets the gold?

Had Cena not got injured then they may have been in a position still to let Cena v Taker or my dream of Cena v Austin take place, Reigns and HHH could have fought over the Authority and had the title on someone else and built a strong card with a weaker champion because the big matches were there.

But the booking is so narrow minded that they haven't built their roster up strongly so when things go wrong there are so few options for them to fall back on. Of course they would probably say the fact the wrestlers we want to see keep getting injured may be proof that they don't belong. But I look at it that these guys need to go to another level to make up for the shit storylines and that probably causes more injury issues

Then there is Daniel Bryan who is so over and could step right up, but maybe the WWE is scared, 2 years in a row they gave him a belt and 2 years in a row he broke down, so they either don't trust him or they know if he is around then Roman has no hope because suddenly rather than just booing Reigns, the people now have someone else to cheer for.

At the moment they boo Reigns but don't get behind anyone else because they give you no choice, its why despite most realising what a shit idea it is that HHH is champion, compared to Reigns its mildly acceptable. The fact though we all know he is just holding it so Reigns gets his moment at Mania however sort of destroys it all.

Seth Rollins saved Mania last year then got treated with contempt as the champion and now injured. The only way they could have saved this years was the 3rd member of the Shield, what should have been the end of the Royal Rumble was HHH and Ambrose face off, shake hands, then HHH eliminates himself and Dean Ambrose is the corporate champ. Sure, it probably would still end with Reigns holding the belt at Mania, but at least they know have a legitimate opponent and there is hope that Ambrose carries the company past Mania and gets the belt back quickly.

Plus it would need him to be booked as a true corporate champion, not the rubbish Rollins got last year where he feuded with Kane and had spats with Noble and Mercury, if they booked Rollins strong and actually backed by the Authority and feuded with Ambrose, maybe Ziggler, Owens etc then it would have been a far better reign and they would have built up other contenders.

Something in me finds it hilarious to think of Vince as an intentional troll.

Talks about a brass ring but has the attitude of Homer Simpson when he dangled the fish in front of the dolphin in the Bigger Brother episode. But who stole the hotdog from his hand in retaliation?

I'd be okay with Triple H if he stopped using that shitty facebuster thing all the time.
I'd be OK if it wasn't ANOTHER desperate attempt to get Reigns over. As Cornette points out HHH works with the guy who draws the money. And that's fine people like HHH are very important and necessary. If he's against people like Bryan, Rock, Austin, Taker, HBK, Lesnar even at his current age that can work just fine. Working with Reigns is ####ing useless though as he is just not popular enough to benefit and there is just not enough people who WANT to cheer for and engage with him. Not necessarily Roman's fault either is more due to the confused, forced and utterly nauseating writing he has had to deal with over the last 18 months or so.

Vince McMahon is a genius.

It amuses me how badly he plays the "smart fans". They don't even know they are getting played.

I don't understand what they could have realistically done with the Rumble at this point other than HHH. They haven't built anyone who could legitimately win it other than him, Reigns or Lesnar. Sure it sucks, but the booking is pretty much correct and makes kayfabe sense.

Booking Triple H to win is "fine" if at the same time they make Roman look amazing, because that is literally the entire point of Triple H winning the belt.

But instead they made Roman look weak and did absolutely nothing to get the fans behind him. Roman is less over than he was pre-Rumble.

That's fair enough.

Years of treating the rest of the roster like filler ...
