I know I know, it is Rucci we are talking about here, but I just couldn't let this slide. He had Robbie Gray, yes Robbie Gray, at number 49. He even had Stiffy at 31, and while he is important to us, there is no way there are only 30 better players than him in the competition this year. What'd everyone else think of this puff piece?

Was it Top 50 of 2010?

Don't think Robbie should be there. On potential maybe, but he needs to stay on the park.

Any other Crows other than Stiffy? Thommo? Tex ;)?

Mate.
Top ten of Rucci's list is;
G.Ablett
D.Swan
J.Selwood
L.Hodge
B.Goddard
L.Franklin
M.Boyd
P.Chapman
A.Didak
M.Pavlich

Not a bad top ten....never thought I would say this but I agree with Rucci.

One thing that really perplexed me was how players like; Sammy Mitchell, Corey Enright, Steve Johson, Nick Malceski and Joey Montagna couldn't crack the top twenty?

Its Rucci, hes an idiot. In fact if you put all the village idiots from all the villages in one village, he would be the idiot of that village.

What did you expect?

I laughed so hard going through it! As a matter of fact before I even read it I smiled and said "oh here we go" to myself (not crazy)

Gray in the top 50 is HILARIOUS. He would struggle to make the top 100.

Other epic lulz include -

Deledio below players such as Malceski , Jack & Watson

Marc Murphy at #15

Nick Riewoldt above Jack

Maxwell in the top 20

Sandilands below Cross & Murphy

Dal Santo above Montagna

S.Milne apparently better than S.Johnson

Thanks for the laughs Rucci - its almost getting to the point where he is purposely being controversial. I doubt he believes half of the stuff he actually writes. He's either attention seeking or absolutely clueless - and neither is an attractive trait

He claimed it was because of the Barlow exception (injuries cutting short a season). He had Barlow at 50 btw.

Anyone else see him claim Grey could be top 25 next year?

Haaa Barlow prolly had more BOG's then the majority of his list.
Nick's been nothing special, can't thread it to save his life would struggle to put him in there at all.
Completely hyped up return no real substance more a structural and morale boost to the side.

It was funny how he went on to write about how Swan will win the Brownlow, even though Gary Abblet was named the best player in the top 50, as if his list is some kind of authority and not just his opinion.

I'm constantly bemused by how under-rated Scott Thompson is year after year, and not just by Rucci on his top 50, but by our own supporters and the club itself as per his votes in our B & F each year.

On the flip-side, i'm also constantly bemused how over-rated Robbie Gray & Boak have been over the years. (As was Nathan Krakouer).
It must be the Abbott factor - if you repeat enough shit constantly then it becomes embedded in enough peoples minds as the truth. :D

Was Douglas above Gray? Because he should be. Not that I would be too fussed if he wasn't given the list was one compiled by a man renowned for his incompetence.

Douglas couldn't make the list over the 11 game superstar in Robbie Gray. Before I saw his name, I thought the list was OK, for Rucci especially. Joel Selwood is not number 3 though, it is quite clearly Swan, Ablett, Hodge, Goddard and then Sandilands as the top 5 this year. Boak deserved his spot though, I thought he was clearly Port's best player this year (even though cheap possession Kane won the B&F again).

Well, it is Rucci after all. The amount this bloke knows about football could fit on a postage stamp.

Example:

J Brown, 16 games 53 goals, top 10 in Goals per game, goal contributions per game, marks per game

R Gray, 11 games, top 10 in NOTHING!

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha TOOL.

And the listing of Selwood at 3 is a joke. He is one of the most hyped and overrated players in the AFL. He is good (borderline very good), but not in the top 15 let alone top 3!

Gray and Boak have the potential to be in the top 10 best players in the league, I think some of you under-rate Gray just because he plays for Port, IF (big if) he can get he's body right, I've got no doubt he can be in the top 10-15 players in the comp.

And FWIW, I think Hartlett is better then both, but he too has to get he's body right

Yeah, but a top 50 should be based on current form and not potential.

Gray and Boak are not in the current top 50 players in the land. They do have the potential to get there but are not there yet.
There are many players at many clubs who have the potential to be in a top 50 list but they need to get there first.

Yeah, Rucci shot himself in the foot by claiming that production counted (i.e. "quality over quantity") and then rating Nick Riewoldt (on reputation) over Jack Riewoldt, Robbie Gray in the top 50 (potential, not production) and Michael Barlow 50th (extreme quality in 2010!??!?!).

But then again, no media pundit has ever made a top 50 that has these weird little compromises that benefit their biases, so I'd suggest people move on with their lives.

Gray wouldnt be in the top 200 on '10 form, but he was a top 30-50 player in 09, and if he stays fit will probably be there again next year.

Selwood at 3 is amusing.

I don't think Gray would've been in the top 50 last year. If we're rewarding potential then why not just add Hentschel to the top 50 as well. Once Gray gets his body right , he could be a superstar but right here in the present , he hasn't and there are definitely 50 better players than him.

Well put, both Gray and Boak have great potential, would love to have them both at my club, but top 50 this year? Yeah, thats a bit of a laugh, might as well put Dangerfield, Tippett or Walker there! As is Selwood at #3, that's even worse, top 20 perhaps, but talk about a player who benefits from playing with the likes of Ablett, Bartell, Corey, Chapman, Stevy J etc, put him in another side and he'd just be another Scott Thompson, who most certainly deserved to be in the top 50.
