Hey Everyone,
I havent posted a thread here for a while now but i am starting to get sick and tired of all the rule changes that seem to coming into play most years.

If you look back at tapes of the 2001/2002 seasons, football is so much different now and that was only 5 years ago. We are the only professional code in the world that seems to be making consistant rule changes and refining rule interpritations. why?

We have a sport where crowds are up, most clubs have decent memberships, we attract the corporate dollar, so why all the changes?

I say bring back football that way it was in the late 90s, that was when the game was at its peak. More goals, more pace in the game!!! I dont agree, i dont mind sitting there watching a game that has had 14-16 goals kicked between two teams! The flood, a coach will figure out how to beat it and when it happens it will change the game.

What do you guys think?

It's too late (for me) to do the stats, but I think we find more midfielders/small forwards kicking goals which has resulted in the change of the game in our minds. I mean, no dominant full forwards, maybe. Remember when Lockett, Modra, Carey, Dunstall, Ablett kicked plenty of goals together, then you had Loewe, Brownless, Rocca, Richo etc. who also chipped in. In those days, I guess they were more focul points. These days, I would think as many goals are kicked, just not by individuals.

I agree the flood is a problem, but you are quite contradictory there. If the flood is a problem, more rules will have to be changed. I think it is just a strategy implemented that worked, and if somethings not working, and even if it is poor to watch, the coaches want to win, they don't care. Winning is winning. Flooding can't be controlled. No rule changes have occured to cause flooding, so none should be forced to control it either (We don't want a game of Netball!)

I think, it will never really get back to the fast paced etc. only because the longer the game goes, the more ideas/strategies are invented, and sometimes for the fans they might be neutral, but it is a match winning plan.

At least full forwards are getting a bit more opportunities to bring up a tonne with stricter rules on manhandling/chopping arms etc.

The flood is not a problem. It is easing anyway due to the fact coaches have developed ways around it and it's not the best way to win a game. Also at least the flood encourages contests.

But personally I don't want it to go back to the old style of kicking to a pack nor do I want a game of ice hockey out there. Just let the game develop by itself with minimal interference.

News just in: Every piece of play we were in last year should have been a free to the opposition team.

Did anyone read the newspaper this morning?

Anthony Rocca would be cited for his tackle on Murphy?

SHUT UP!
