Does it matter?
AFL Club
Essendon
Other Teams
Manchester United, Cleavland Cavs
Heard from an AFL Player from another club.

He told my Uncle, that Ben Cousins has been to Essendon training, he has had a look at all training facilities at Windy Hill, has spoken to the coaching staff on numerous occassions and has spoken to Matthew Lloyd and the leadership group and is very happy to come to Essendon

Now I don't think it will happen (hope it does) but just to be kept so quiet over the time surrounding Ben Cousins puts a lot of doubt on the situation

but maybe just something to think about?

well even though st kilda and brisbane have looked at him no ones really said they're definetly gonna take him so like most clubs that havent said they definetly dont want him, we'd be in with a shot. i wouldnt get my hopes up too much though

Interesting, but I doubt it. However I have done a bit of a back flip on this situation and would be happy to see him roaming the HFF's for the Dons for the next 3 years. I think his gut running and experience would help a few of our young midfielders develop.

I had heard this too from a brother of a current player and (according to him) Ben Cousins is satisfied with the playing group, facilities and culture at Essendon. Welcome Ben Cousins... I hope.

Haha!

An AFL player from another club knows that Ben Cousins has been to Essendon training.

True or not I hope the OP can appreciate how ridiculous that sounds.
I certainly do.

I really don't think we'll pick him up anyway. I'm not too keen on the idea. What if he relapses and some of the young kids get sucked into it? Worst case scenario I know, but it would be a extremely bitter pill to swallow for the club and us fans too.

would think that no matter where benny boy ends up, he will be scrutinized to the nth degree, so there would be little chance of relapse without all hell breaking loose

wouldnt mind him at essendon, no doubting the talent & development positives for younger players that he could deliver

you would think if we wanted cousins we would get him..

firstly we are melbourne based which from all reports is cousins preferred destination

we have better facilities then st kilda
we would have more money in the salary cap then st kilda
we are on the up whereas if you had to say anything st kilda will be on the decline

and

we have higher picks in the national and preseason drafts then st kilda or Brisbane

i would love to have counsins running around with us, as an earlier poster said he would be heavily scrutinised would have to under go a lot of drug tests and any sign of cousins turning into his own ways would be picked up pretty early in which behavoural clauses would be used to control. i would think there is little possibility of a relapse and no chance it would translate onto other players, the only thing that would translate onto other players would be his work ethic.

i have always loved watching counsins play and would love him at essendon, it all depends on whether essendon want him, because if we decide we do we would be in the best position to draft him i would imagine

would u guys really want him though? a young team and his about 30. cant see him doing u guys much good apart from maybe teaching the young players a few things but that is about it

Would love it to be true but i have my doubts. Who would people prefer at the club? Hislop or Cousins?

I wouldn't say no. Cousins realistically has 3-4 years left in his body, barring serious injury. That certainly fits into our future plans for success. His experience and leadership, not to mention his downright brilliance, would be invaluable.

Essendons next Brownlow Medalist - Ben Cousins?? :D

I was originally reluctant to even consider taking on Cousins, but I have since changed my mind. I think he would be a valuable addition to the team. I think that if he is cleared to play by the AFL then the chances of relapse are rather slim.

Headline in tomorrows West Australian:

Cousins on the Radar

Reliable sources on bigfooty.com say Ben Cousins is destined to become a Bomber next year along with Stephen Hill, Tom Swift and Chris Yarran who are all going to be taken at pick 5 in next Saturday's national draft.

We are a lot closer to challenging (at least in the club's opinion) than anyone thinks.

Look at where Hawthorn and Geelong were in 2006.

Shhhhhhh. That's supposed to be a secret. ;)

Let everyone keep thinking we'll finish last this year and for the next four years.

i still think you guys are about 2+ years before you are a strong team. once you get some games into gumpelton(very poorly spelt) and he can stay injury free i can see him been pretty good. Ryder looks like his got a bit of potential. Stanton should keep improving and davey's is always a useful player. But in 2 years time do u think you will still have alot of your older players like fletcher, lloyd and lucus? If you still have 1 or 2 of them around(more of lloyd and lucus) u might be a strong side in that time.

but next year i cant see ur team having enough experince to be able to be a big threat and to beat geelong and hawks atm is a pretty tough job.

I'm certainly not expecting a premiership next year.

But look through some of our kids, and you will see 10-50 games for a large number of them. There are a huge number of them, and they have been getting some experience due to injuries. Even guys like Tayte Pears who have played few games are getting more physically ready for AFL.

Expect finals next year. Seriously.
