My take on this is that we are giving St Kilda, Lucas and pick 15 as well as a high draft pick for Bower to GWS. Richmond get pick 20 and McLean. i.e

Carlton lose: Lucas, Bower, Mclean and pick 20
Carlton gain: Goddard
St Kilda gain: Lucas, pick 15 and 1st rounder from GWS
St kilda lose: Goddard
Richmond lose: pick 15
Richmond gain: Mclean and pick 20
GWS lose: 1st rounder
GWS gain: Paul bower.

That makes sense to me, I think I would just about take it, Heno is ahead of Bower now as KPB, Lucas has the potential yes and I like both him and Bower. But with Goddard and Judd now at their peak along with Gibbs and Murph our midfield will be iconic. Goddard will give us huge flexibility especially with Gibbs, he will be able to swap with Gibbs off the half back during games or over several games.

Hopefully this rumour is on the money, IMO we should get it done.

This is it... we have been through the worst period of our long and glorious history and we are finally coming out into the sunshine of success... and people want to give up players who are going to help with that success for a quick fix that we dont need.

We have the players already. More experience into Lucas... get him to 50 games and he will be awesome as and outside runner along the flanks. Gibbs is on the verge of breaking out and finally becoming the elite we all knew he could be.

So why do we need to get Goddard... apart from the romance of getting the player who should have been wearing navy blue 8 years ago when we got penalised thanks to Big Jack.

it's no problem if we get Goddard but were not going to sell our future for him just to try to gain a few years success. I'd rather keep our youth and have a sustained period of success. Plus if word is true saints MUST get rid of him so we'd already pay under for him.

You're probably right about the speculation etc.

If you wanna dance you gotta pay the band. We lose the potential of Lucas and pick 15 as well as Bower. That to me is a win win, having big bodied quality midfielders aged between 22-28yo to me open up a premiership window for the next 2-3 yrs. Our time is now, so we should go for it.

Also IMO good players like Lucas and Bower you can come by, fortunately we have depth now that can cover there loss. However match winners like Judd and Goddard dont grow on trees so I am happy to give up a fair bit (like we did for Judd) to gain a whole lot (Premierships).

I'm really confused with this argument if we're talking about Goddard (or similar ilk player) as it is not just a quick fix.
Collingwood did O.K. out of their "quick fixes" in the past 2 years, didn't they?
Jolly being their premium ruck-man and Ball their best centreman in 2009 and then Tarrant and Krakouer in 2010.
I think most may agree that Collingwoods recruitment was paramount to them winning one premiership and almost two.

I'd also like for us to keep all our good players at all cost, but at the end of the day we can only play 22 and the better the 22 out there, the better the chances of some serious action.
We already have good depth with the personnel we have.

As for draft picks, it's a compromised draft, enough said...

I think you have to look at it as Bower is out of contract so worthless in regards to trading and Brock goes with huge coin on his head so the Blues get relief as well.Leaves us with Lucas & 22 for 15.

If this hypothetical trade were to go through, I'd imagine it'd have to look something like this:

Kane Lucas + Brock McLean + Steven Morris > Richmond
Pick 14 > GWS
Pick 15 + Pick 22 + Simon White > St Kilda
Brendan Goddard > Carlton

Kane Lucas is no doubt worth at the very least Pick 15. Simon White is just someone we'd send across who would be unlikely to get a game with us.

So to break it down :

Bower : has been passed in the pecking order by Henderson , Laidler and Duigan along with great young talent in Watson , McCarthy and McInnes
No loss .

McClean : To get McClean and his salary off our books = huge win .

Lucas : Could go either way as a player and wouldnt surprise , time will tell but to land a player of Goddards level the dice must be rolled .

Pick 20 : Like all draft picks we'll know in 5 years time but by then Goddard may well have helped us lift no.17 !!!!

Get it done !!!!
