If he has signed it would be a mistake to keep him out through spite.

In fact all the more reason to play him if good enough. On ytd form he probably has little currency so it is in our interest from a trade point of view to give him every chance to his increase his value

If he's in our best side he should be picked even if only to maximise our possible return

No. We get more value out of getting games into a player who will be part of our future, than any possible slight increase in trade value. That is if he is actually going.

Given we're not a top 4 team and will not be playing off in the GF this year, if Griggy is going to GC next year I'd much prefer to invest time and effort into a younger player who will be part of our premiership push in 2 or so years done the track.

If Griggy is going to GC next year, then we gain nothing long term by playing him, in fact we're disadvantaging ourselves long term

I'm hoping it's a trade because our 1st live pick in any other season would be equivalent to, pick 40-50...

It's more like the equivalent of pick 25-32. If there isn't a player that makes a trade the best option we can still get a good player with that pick.

Pretty sure Grigg didnt sign with GC the day after the Brisbane game because you can't sign whilst under contract (during the season).

Dont really know why John Anthony is so sh1t.

Sure he hasnt had a great season, and he's a Collingwood scum bag, but he did kick 75 goals in his first 35 odd games. Would walk in to our forward line. But I believe he's a bit of a knob anyway.

That's my feeling - already got rid of one knob full-forward. Don't need another one - especially when he's only average anyway !!

No we are not a top 4 team but we are still, very much, in the race for a home final which we would hope gives us at least 2 games in September.

If Grigg is in our top 22 for any or every game he should be played. If we fall out of the finals race I don't really care what we do with him as the season would be a huge fail IMO given the year so far.

I think maximising finals experience is much more important than blooding kids who aren't quite ready and if they were ready they'd be there now.

Because GC17 have taken the best 16-17 year-olds last season and have signed local lads as well, this years draft will be a speculation draft at best...

e.g. Josh Toy is a youngster who would have been a top 3 pick this year that signed over 12 months ago and yet no-one speaks about.

I think this is bit of a misnomer. I ran through my list last night, and from 10-40 I reckon it's a pretty even spread of talent that I'd be reasonably happy putting on an AFL list....generally speaking it's not too bad a pool of talent. Having said that, if clubs are reaching for talls early the cream of them may be gone by our first pick.

Is that you Wayne Hughes :p ;)

Splendini's List - the tale of an ordinary man (a very ordinary man) who compiles a list of fresh faced young footballers, to save from the tyranny of an oncoming Gold Coast invasion. Can he get these young men to safety before the rising of the Suns?

I think Splendini would excel in this sort of role and being in black and white, would be less objectionable to the viewers.

Much better than being in Titanic for instance. As an early 1900's Italian, Splendini would spend most of his time locked below deck in the third class section. Hardly hero worthy stuff.

Don't be so sure.

Hughes' recruiting philosophy is to pick the best available, especially at our earlier draft selections.

He's shown that he does not deviate this and to expect him to change is a little naive.

If a KPP or a HBF is the best available at our selections then you are right.

Don't be surprised to see Lucas become a player off the HB line and he has shown enough to suggest he's got a big future ahead of him.

Let's not start this argument again by saying we should have drafted Talia ahead of him because he's a KPP.

Agree WHs is basically a proponent of best available. It wont stop others at the club getting in his ear though (e.g. Ratten) and saying, it's great having a brilliant midfield getting the ball inside 50 ...but what happens after that ...the opposition team runs it out of our weak fwd line (after flooding) and rebounds straight up the field smashing our weak defence 1 on 1 :thumbsu:.

We are winning most inside 50 battles already due to our mids - it is not our weakness. At the end of the day you need to spend your high quality picks across the ground evenly with a slight favouring to your midfield.

Talia is injured like Brock is injured, like Setanta is playing injured etc. Not worth bringing up until 3 years in to see if he is a quality player like Lucas is showing himself to be. A quality tall defender needs 3 years to develop and aside from Bower we have none developing that is a high pick. It's all i'm saying...we need one going fwd.

As for players like Lucas/Gibbs playing across half back; it is seomthing that should be done to fill holes and not permantely because they are not hard enough at the ball (more Gibbs as Lucas is yet to show himself week in week on courage - given he is only in his first year, of course he needs time but as he develops as a youngster he is not offering any hardness for the time being).

Think someone else posted that we have a pick 1/9 also in the backline. Putting Gibbs on the HBF along with Russell/Scotland leaves our backline without any real meanness and is something i;'m against to be honest (with Gibbs). Draft a good HBFer with grunt/meanness and a good kick...costs you a first round pick unless you are lucky. Even Bower, Thornton, and Jamison are not intimidating!!!

None of this is a rant against WHs, it is more about holes we need to fill going fwd and what it takes to fill them - high quality picks.

WHs has done ok with his drafting without some player types (KPPs) falling his way at his picks.

Not so much a KPP, but from what I understand, Andrew Walker will be placed on the trade table along with Brad Fisher.

You are trying to lure Marc LeCras to Carlton and those two will be offered to the Eagles.

Not a rumour as such but I keep hearing that Pavlich may not have signed with the Dockers, I thought I heard something like this today on sport 927 from Adam White, can anyone clarify this???

Sam Jacobs aint going anywhere

He's the one guy at the club who is a sponge

Get a decent coach and this kid will be an outstanding footballer

Not really related too much to our club but one i have seen:
- Rischetelli and Brennan have signed with the Gold Coast

I did hear the other day something interesting about Essensdon, that being their primary target is actaully Ryan Griffen, rather than Dangerfield.

One i read over on the Port Board is that Kane Cornes $$$ have been lowered (in terms of what they are offering to him for his next contract) and he is willing to walk out.
Personally i think he could get a soild aquisition, as he is an inside midfielder but also has outside skills. Good run with player, and would leave Joseph to stay in the backline as he has been doing this year. If we could get him for cheap, he could be handy.

A trade similar to Jacobs and 2nd/2rd rounder for Trengrove and Cornes could benefit both teams. If Trengrove is not keen, Cornes and a 3rd rounder for Jacobs could work.

Might aswell beat the port supporters to it and say no deal.

Don't think we'd be getting Jacobs + 2nd rounder for Trengove & Cornes, but would love that to happen.

No way would Port agree to that

At day's end, our 4 rucks do give us potential in trade week, the question is who?

At this stage, I'd say Jacobs has more trade value than Hammer & Warnock, who fit in the undelivered / great potential basket. But to get something really decent in trade week, we'll probably have to look at trading one of them + a top 22 player

Hampson has more trade value than Jacobs.

Look at that snapped point after he passed it off on the move and kept running to get it back.

One day he'll nail them and tear a game apart.

GC17 can only sign one uncontracted player.

They shouldn't be allowed to sign an additonal uncontracted player via the PSD.
