Last week Robo kicked his 100th goal with the Shepparton Swans in the Goulburn Valley league which is one of the strongest country leagues in Victoria if not Australia.
He's played every game thus far, with a few remaining, injury free.
Shoud have Carlton picked him to play the goalsquare roll for a couple of seasons to take some heat of the other forwards while they are still learning their craft?
I'm confident he would've kicked 40-60 each season if played the majority of the season.
Obviously the Goulburn Valley is no where as strong as the AFL but from a forwards prospective Robo would've been the centre of attention every week and not had the ball coming down as often and as good as if in a AFL team.
Most quality forwards play better in better standards.
At worse Carlton wouldve been able to go long to Robo and would've given us a contest(speky attempt).
I guarantee he would've kicked more goals the Hendo this year.
Just a thought.

As it's incredibly unlikely he'd have been the difference between also rans and a premiership, I' much happier having guys like Garlett, Robinson or Yarran get the opportunity to develop rather than Robertson wringing what's left out of his body and career, even if he might have eased the pressure on a Henderson while he developed.

there are plenty of guys who have already kicked a tonne in country leagues, dont think we should be looking at each of them .

HAHA who cares if he could've kicked more goals... the fact is... hard Robbo being in the team ahead of Hendo... the longer he'd be in the team... the longer it would've taken Hendo to develop...

We are no longer Pagan style patch gaps with a bandaid... we now look for a long term fix... and the output Hendo is producing is already baring fruit..

He would have made a massive improvment to the team song with his natural rock and roll voice

Simon tregenza kicked over 200 goals last year and is well on his way to doing it again this year playing in the mandurah footy league. Alsohe was on north melbourne's list for a year.

Maybe we should look at him ;)

Please No hacks, if you must go down that track then Scott Lucas would have been a better bet than Robbo. Matthew Little(cousin of James Hird and 1-gamer with Hawks) playing terrific footy at Willy, is worth a look-Could be the J-Pod of 2011

I was a strong supporter of the possibility of getting him for this season as I was unsure how we would structure up without Fevola and I thought we would struggle and could benefit from his ability and experience.

That train has now passed, however. Our forward line looks pretty good at times and they are developing. We don't need Robbo there.

1 Robbo is enough for our forward line anyway ;)

Two things.

Firstly he wouldn't have got a game ahead of Henderson. Not playing for the same spot. If Robbo had of got a game it would have been ahead of one of the three amigos.

Secondly, the end can come really quickly, especially for small forwards. Look at Aker. If Aker went back to Shepp I'd think he be the best goal kicking mid in the comp. Just not quite up to it at AFL senior level anymore.

Houlihan and Carrazzo, Robbo etc are playing primarly defensive roles, and I don't think Robertson would have taken their spot.....

So which one of the three amigos do you think he would have been better than?
.....and as you say, if at his worst all we got was a long target trying to take speckies........well......wouldn't the WH haters have got their fill then.:thumbsu:

Quite happy to see Robbo slide off into retirement.
