Russell Robertson= lost opportunity?

Last week Robo kicked his 100th goal with the Shepparton Swans in the Goulburn Valley league which is one of the strongest country leagues in Victoria if not Australia.
He's played every game thus far, with a few remaining, injury free.
Shoud have Carlton picked him to play the goalsquare roll for a couple of seasons to take some heat of the other forwards while they are still learning their craft?
I'm confident he would've kicked 40-60 each season if played the majority of the season.
Obviously the Goulburn Valley is no where as strong as the AFL but from a forwards prospective Robo would've been the centre of attention every week and not had the ball coming down as often and as good as if in a AFL team.
Most quality forwards play better in better standards.
At worse Carlton wouldve been able to go long to Robo and would've given us a contest(speky attempt).
I guarantee he would've kicked more goals the Hendo this year.
Just a thought.

Bloody hell, can someone please stop starchamber from creating new threads. Every time he posts it's a new low. Whoops, apparently there's two people with the same ability to actually say something so ridiculously stupid without realising it is, in fact, ridiculously stupid.

He's probably played every game because the play in the GVFL is so slow compared to AFL. I guarantee he wouldn't have played every game if it was AFL.

So what if he's kicked more than Hendo. Lachie is playing a lot further up the ground. Robertson wouldn't leave his forward 50 so you'd hope he'd kick more goals. I guarantee Lachie has done more work up the ground than Robbo would have playing in the GVFL.

Lachie is a big part of our future and is having a much greater influence than Robbo would have (shit, forgot to guarantee it, oh well).

The reason Lachie would not have (not "not of" btw, i guarantee it) kicked 100 is because he's a chf, not a ff who parks his arse within 30m of goal the whole game.

The Goulburn Valley League, seriously??? Fish would have kicked 120, I guarantee it.

PS. Please don't take my guarantees as real guarantees. Obviously they are mostly my opinions but if spudchamber can make outlandish guarantees i feel i can too.

Guarantee Hendo would not of kicked a ton this season in the Goulburn Valley.

What a BS statement. :thumbsd::thumbsd:

Maybe then we should just recruit players from this league from now on and forget about the kids in the TAC Cup because you seem to think it is so strong.

Good on you PH for creating a new thread - don't listen to the knockers. Let's have a few more (knockers?) have a crack at it.

I would have preferred Robbo to Fish and it is interesting to note that he has held up well injury wise

His body has held up in a peanut league where training consists of draining 10 pots after each match and training session :) :)

Bringing Russell in would have meant:

  1. Not finding out if Setanta could play FF meaning even next year we would still be trying to find out
  2. Less development games for Hendo
  3. Having the most lazy fwd fly for the ball and nothing else letting opposition teams run it out of defence free of charge (Fisher anyone)
  4. Russell probably breaking down every second game based on the training requirements of an AFL team
  5. Encouraging our mids to put in the long ball eveyr time on the 1% he could outjump the monster he was playing on...just great

Take it from someone who has some contacts which are very close to the action at the Shepp Swans... He gets run off at this level and barely trains.

Henderson.. I guarantee you would not kick a 100 goals in the GVFL... He would kick somewhere between 150 & 180, Robbo also still goes to ground far too easy and gets away with murder as his coach is a "nut case" and doesn't dare try to discipline him for breaking every team rule in the book!!!

Either you are being contradictory for the sake of being contradictory, or you forget to put in the appropriate 'smilie'. I would like to think it is the latter, but I somehow suspect it is the former.

You are kidding surely. You don't want someone tossing something like this out there for discussion. We can only keep talking about the same old shit for so long. The topic may or may not be a good one BUT please tell me you want posters brave enough to throw a topic out there

Far too much elitism going around these days, methinks.

Some you blokes need to get your head out of your arse , i played in the Goulburn Valley a few ago and still keep an eyer on it, its not as far behind VFL as you reckon.
There pre-season would be equal to VFL training due to alot of former AFL players invovled in coaching at clubs in that league.
Just because its a Counrty league think its full of bums & pi$$ heads, well i can tell the league is more professional than most city and suburban leagues having played in all mentioned.
Too many people on here like to judge from afar with out knowing any real facts.
Henderson has some promise but is only just a player at this stage and would not of kicked 100 goals in the GV this year, he wouldnt kick 100 in the vfl so what make you think he would 150 in the Gv?

It is not a dig too much at the Goulburn valley league as such more a comment that a player who cannot get a gig at AFL/VFL level is being touted as somebody we "missed the boat" on.
The feeling here is long term vision

Robbo climbs over a few fat farmers and we've suddenly missed the next Pods (who is currently experiencing his own reality correction). Not sure I could stomach another self-conscious, aw shucks, are the cameras on? farewell speech from the wannabe Springsteen anyway.

I think some of you have it ass backwards. The country leagues are littered with AFL stars, at both ends of their careers, we want to grab the ones starting not the ones finished.

I think the real lost opportunity was not getting Robertson to the club while Fev was here. He would have been a great off-field foil for Fev. Perhaps he could have been the decoy drunk whilst Fev ran amok out of the spotlight.

What is wrong with some of you dick brains!
I'm not saying Carlton should recruit Robo next season because he's kicked a ton this year, i was just meaning that maybe it might of been worth entertaining recuiting Robo on a year by year contract only based on the chance he may stand up and deliver the goods, big gamble yes.
Never would i have had him in the side ahead of Hendo who is an important project player, more so if Robo could've been contributing from the goalsquare it would allow Santana's helpers to spend more time up the ground.
Lets be honest, Robo has been a better player than Irish & Fisher and thay have had ample time to produce and failed.

Can we stop looking at ex Melgawn rejects plz. We've already got the 'soft as butter' Johnson, and Mr 'can't get myself right' Mclean from them. Last thing we need is a part of their ex-rubbish forward line.

Get good kids. Not old junk. Robbo aint got no experience worth mentioning to bring to Carlton. He's been a borderline player for cellar dwellers.

There comes a time that every man must face

That time has come and gone for me, and one day, if not already, it will come and go for you

It's called "Time to hang up the boots."

Every man has their breaking point, you and I have one, even Robo has one, and very obviously his best playing days are over.
