If you read the comments at the bottom of the YouTube video it becomes even scarier, with almost all of them questioning how one of their favourite songs of all time has landed up in a "worst songs" list.

You do have to understand, however, how huge Nick Berry (and Eastenders more generally) was in mid-1980s Britain. That song literally was the soundtrack to a lot of people's lives back then, in the days when there was no internet, no streaming platforms, and we all watched the same three or four commercial channels, at the time the programme was broadcast (not at a time of our choosing), and how at school the next day (or round the water cooler if we were working), we all talked about the same stuff we'd watched the night before.

Back then, mainstream media was what connected us to each other. Nowadays media (mainstream, splintered, fringe, obscure) is what pushes us apart, or at least fragments us.

I've never been in here before. It's kinda cool.

And as someone who has moderated elsewhere for a long long time, I well understand the need to siphon off conversations into separate places when they've drifted, and I've also developed a bit more compassion than I do with my moderator hat on, for how easy it is to cause a conversation to drift off topic.

Do the coaches & players not know the significance of a GF? It's the only game that defines you. No one is going to give a shit about your season if you don't win the GF. The lack of desperation & respect towards the GF is pissing me off.

If you're that bothered about the pressure of the GF then you shouldn't be in the team. Plain & simple. It's the bloody final battle, no holds bar. How do these guys not understand this shit? Like not even one of them?

I don't mind that person since she's had a good stint at Richmond during their dynasty but fk me, hearing the same crap along the lines of it being 'just another game' when it clearly doesn't work for us irritates me. I think they word their statements soo nicely when I'm a bit more emotional doesn't help me either. I don't feel their hurt tbh, well not like me as a fan.

Having a woman try to motivate a men's AFL team on grandfinal day is akin to having Plugger as a midfwife.
I'm sure she's very professional and good for things like mens/womens cycling, swimming or whatever
But in footy you need a bloke who's been there, done it to yell "Get out there and smash those F***ING C***S!"

I don't believe that management of a public service organisation funded by taxpayers, such as the defence force, is particularly comparable to the management of a successful corporate business

Believe what ypu want. But if you think the budget management of multi billion $ projects, the research and development of weaponry and materiel, SyInt , Personnel Management , Training , Logistics and Catering are all performed by uniformed members you’re clueless.

Along with all those mixed personnel being subject to performance standards, conditions of service, job descriptions, promotional frameworks, etc etc.

In fact the co-operative Command Management of Serving and Civvy personnel is a basic tenet of achieving Command promotion. The Chief of Army alone is responsible for over 40,000 employees, Serving, Civvy and Contracted.

Thats how wrong you are.

Your interpretation of Security Briefings and Compartmental Briefings is incorrect - they are intended to address Information disclosure - not talking about how someone behaved towards another - so that analogy is incorrect.

FWIW SOs often find it easier to just put the fear of god into ex-members - 25yrs in DSA taught me that.

If you don’t see an issue with them name dropping, thats the standard you walk by + fotunately 98% of ADF personnel I worked with did not.
