i'm not sure what his contract situation is at the dogs and how receptive he would be to the idea of coming back to south australia but i think we need to have a genuine crack at him. i think the young talent on our list is something to salivate over but our only area concern is the class of our midfield brigade. i think he would add some significant bite to that area.

my proposal to try and obtain his services would be trading bock and 2nd/3rd rounder. i don't think a straight swap would be enough to get the deal done as griffen is 3/4 years bocks junior and bock has been hampered by injury in recent times. i know we're losing an absolute star of the comp but i feel we have adequate cover for his role/s.

you cant trade bock. simple as that. he is an all australian defender and they dont grow on trees.

I would offer Chris Knights for him and a third or 4th round draft pick. Otten is back next season which will alllow either himself or davis to push up around the forward line. Knights is replaceable.

Ideally i would rather keep knighta and gain Griff but I dont think that would happen too easily.

Is this a gag? I'm not sure if you're trying to take the piss...

i'm aware a chb of bock's calibre is an extremely rare commodity but i feel we have a healthy supply of quality key position players who can fill the void. bock still holds a lot of currency but his stock prices are declining, so i think now is the critical time to orchestrate a trade using him as currency. you must sacrifice quality to gain quality.

ryan griffen is precisely the sort of player we are lacking. a premium onballer who can break a line. you have him donning the tri-colours and i feel a premiership well and truly brewing!

Both trade options so far mooted on here for Griffen are fanciful. This guy is elite imo, and it would take something more than mid range player x + draft pick 40+ to get him. Knights and Bock are good players (Both have had ordinary years with injury etc, so stocks not at highest), but pretty certain the Dogs would not entertain those options. The throwing of a 2nd/3rd rounder is pretty much useless as it can be a crapshoot at those picks.

hahahaha wow.... i'm struggling to compose myself at the notion the premier chb of the competition is a mid range player. i think only a port adelaide supporter could conjure up such a laughable sentiment.

I think you'll find two things

that guy isn't in charge of recruiting and its an idea thrown out for discussion which i'm pretty confident the majority of this board would find slightly out of kilter.

but I don't see how your post really improved the situation

Read your own post above, even you admit to his declining stocks. So what is it, he is either the premier CHB in the comp, or he is coming off an injury riddled year and you need to get rid of him before anyone finds out he is in decline?

i think it's quite clearly both. he is currently the premier chb in the comp and his stock prices are on the gradual decline. i'm not too sure of many players who have their value skyrocketing post the age of 27/28.

He's already donning the tri-colours.

You can't have him.

Or is this another fanciful 'we'll get Pavlich and Gibbs notion'?

With Lake, Morris and Williams down back I don't think we'll be trading Griff for Bock. Draft picks are useless for us also due to fact it's a lock we'll be getting Wallace and Libba F/S.

Griff's very damaging. Very happy we have him wearing the tri-colours

Lets just say you would have to give up a LOT to get him, and I dont think the Dogs would entertain much less than something like both Bock and Knights/Dangerfield/Vince etc etc...ie something that is going to seem like giving up a lot. It is very rare that you see blockbuster trades like that go through. As for picks, unless it is a first rounder, it is not going to hold a lot of currency (and a reasonably low one at that). The age and ability factor of Griffen would have to make him one of the hottest commodities going around i would have thought. If Port looked at him (which they would be stupid not to if he said he wanted to come home), then we would have to throw the kitchen sink at the Dogs likewise to get him.

With Lake, Morris, Williams, Hargrave, Everitt, Tiller, Boumann, Markovich and Mulligan all tall defenders on the list I very much doubt we'd have any need for Bock. Not to mention we already have a lot of guys on the other side of 25.

It is true though if Griffen did want to return home we would be on the losing side but I'd suggest Bock would create more headaches with salary cap and team selection then would be worth it considering we'd be giving up Griffen.

We might consider Porps but even he will be 26 at the start of next season but it would have to come with a draft pick...a draft pick no team has next year. Of course the other is Dangerfield who has shown good signs now and then.

What is in your kitchen sink? We would be after pacy mid's with good skills or very talented mid-sized forwards.

Not sure what you could offer us, but by all means have a go at it.

I highly (and hopefully) doubt Danger would be on the table?

I also doubt that Bock would be headed anywhere other than the GC if a move was to happen at the end of this season, so its GWS the season after :D

I would imagine if it was to happen it would have to be high draft picks and young talent maybe another mid to replace Griff?

I would be interested to see the Crows approach if Griffen did indicate he wanted to leave.

It would end up being between us and Port. Assuming they do end up lower on the ladder they have the bargining power straight up.
we could offer him a vastly superiour young list which has more than a realistic chance of claiming a flag in the not too distant future. i've seen players previously strong-arm their clubs in order to get to their prefered destination. i'm realistic enough to recognise this all hinges on him wanting to come home but i think we should do everything in our powers to tempt him. i wonder how much wriggle room we have in terms of the salary cap with the recent retirements.

If Griff wanted to leave, Knights or Bock and a second rounder would be pretty reasonable.

If he didn't want to leave, the Dogs wouldn't trade him, so perceived value is irrelevant.

Vastly superior young list you say..... whatever.

you think our youth is inferior compared to the youth down at alberton? you might want to scrape that egg off your face.

p.s. our list is better placed than the doggies for the next decade anyway

That's where the discussion begins and ends.

Everything I have read since he came over is that he's well and truly settled in Melbourne. Why would he want to leave?

Why is it that Crows and Power fans think every SA born player wants to come back?

No he wasn't, but I don't see your young players being vastly superior to Port's.

No doubt your's is better, but not by a massive margin.

I really don't think as a general rule there is a massive difference between any of the teams lists.
