Are we too hard on him? I like the way he plays, but he seems to lack the motivation to tackle someone. He just runs next to them. Thoughts?

Lonie had his best season last year. He improved big in certain areas of his game especially tackling and yes even hard ball gets but those waned after the midpoint of the season. He showed he could play a bit on the midfield and as a run with player against the tall midfielders like Goodes and Embley.
I dunno if its the excitment of being a fan but everyone seems to mention him as a tagging wingman or a backman. But what about the most exciting part of his game? Easy goals from 55-60 metres out!
I cannot stress this enough, but Lonie's best position is as an attacking winger or a HFF-er. He can be one of the most damaging attacking outside wingers at this club and even in the AFL. He has a deadly deadly left foot and give him the footy anywhere from 50 to 65 metres out and he is more likely to drill it then anyone else on the run.
Instead of always exposing his negatives and trying to improve other areas of his game, its time we start using his positives on a more consistent basis. We dont need defenders anymore. So use Lonie as a very damaging attacking player, because thats he will do an excellent job at it.

Can you carry these blokes these days that can only play outside. He has no defensive part of his game and doesn't win a lot of ball.
Last year he improved massively in those areas.
As for being a HFF he is a shocking forward.
I would play a bloke with bad disposal that hits the contest and gives 100% efforts rather than a bloke who uses the ball well but is not hard enough to get it.

He does not win enough contests to play wing.
I dont think thats a fair statement, Timmy. Buckley was more of an outside player in his early years and was often critised for it. We all know that. How tough is he now? In the last 5-10 years, he became one of the toughest inside players in the AFL. Im not saying Lonie will be the same, Im just saying, outside players are just as valuable and can be just as effective.
It would be a waste to let go of such a beautiful left foot kick. Especially in a side like ours where we dont have the best kickers. We have had a terrible accuracy rating at goal in the last few years. Id rather a Ryan Lonie shooting at goal from 50 then a lot of others. He is very valuable as an attacking outside winger or HFF-er.
I donj't think I want to hear this, but tell me why you don't rate Tarks.
