It's now time to hand out our second award of the night. The Drazah Medal is handed out each season to our best rookie, and is named after the late brother of jackster83, who tragically died 5 years ago, but remains forever in our hearts.

This was an easy decision - BloodySwan has been an outstanding contributor in his debut season: so much so, that he's been added to our leadership group for season 35. Congratulations mate: you thoroughly deserve your Drazah Medal.
Congratulations BloodySwan.

Definitely destined for big things in the seasons to come.

Round 10 v Warriors by okeydoke7

With finals chances slipping and two defeats in a row, the Swamprats returned to Underground Stadium needing a win.

Despite GremioPower getting us off to the perfect start, it was the Warriors who would dominate early proceedings and take a lead into quarter time.

The Swamprats turned things around on the back of some outstanding individual contributions from Dominic03 and GotTheGoodes, both with over 30 possessions. BloodySwan and Grav featured prominently. And 6 players scored multiple goals for the Swamprats in what was an essential 43 point win to keep finals alive.

well done BloodySwan

Our final award of the night is the captain's award. This was a tough call, but I feel obligated to nominate Firestarter for this award. Firey was the backbone of our match threads this season (registering nearly 400 more posts than yours truly in second place), so I think it's only fair that his efforts are recognised accordingly. Well done mate - keep up the good work in S35.

Round 11 v Royals by okeydoke7

With finals on the line and sphincters tightening, it was an agonisingly close game in Round 11.

An okeydoke7 goal opened the game and the Swamprats were never behind after that, but describing the game in that way does it an injustice. The game hovered between even and a 4 goal lead, with scores back to level twice in the dying stages. A Kennedy Parker goal won the game at the death, ultimately keeping out premiership hopes alive.

okeydoke7 was instrumental with 6 goals. BloodySwan continued his hot form with 29 touches and a goal. GotTheGoodes should also feature in the votes for his 28 possession showing.

Round 13 v Phoenix by philreich

We were coming off the bye in round 12. The bye hadn’t been kind to teams – the previous handful of teams had lost after returning from their bye, so we were hoping to buck the trend against the Phoenix.

We started brightly, scoring 5 goals to 3 in the opening stanza – we took a 9 point lead into the first break.

¼ time Phoenix 3:4 (22) to Swamprats 5:1 (31)

The second quarter was a real arm wrestle – the Phoenix won the quarter narrowly, but we went into the long break, clinging to a 4 point lead.

½ time Phoenix 6:7 (43) to Swamprats 7:5 (47)

Another tight quarter in the third, which we won narrowly. We turned for home, leading by just 10 points.

¾ time Phoenix 9:10 (64) to Swamprats 11:8 (74)

The last quarter was a case of so close, and yet so far. The Phoenix hit the front in the 18th minute, but sataris restored our lead a minute later. But we just couldn’t hold on – the Phoenix scored the winner in the dying stages. But oh what might have been - sataris had another shot at goal as the siren sounded, but the sim decreed it was too late.

Full time Phoenix 14:16 (100) to Swamprats 14:11 (95)

So we were drawn to meet the Phoenix again a week later in the elimination final.

Elimination final v Phoenix by philreich

It was do or die. We felt aggrieved, after the narrow defeat to this mob a week earlier, but we couldn’t do anything about that now, so we just had to focus on the job at hand.

The Phoenix were quick out of the blocks, winning the first quarter by 12 points – early trouble for the Rats.

¼ time Phoenix 4:2 (26) to Swamprats 2:2 (14)

The second quarter was basically a mirror image of the first – 4 goals to 2 in their favour. We went into the long break trailing by 28 points. A huge second half turnaround was needed, in order for us to extend our season by another week.

½ time Phoenix 8:6 (54) to Swamprats 4:2 (26)

Three goals each in the premiership quarter didn’t help our cause – we had to win the last quarter by 5 goals, or it was all over.

¾ time Phoenix 11:8 (74) to Swamprats 7:3 (45)

The Phoenix clearly decided to protect their lead in the last. Both sides scores just the 1 goal, so we went down by an even 5 goals. It was a disappointing way to end the season, but at least it was better than winning another spoon.

Full time Phoenix 12:10 (82) to Swamprats 8:4 (52)

Before we continue with the count, we need to hand out our first award of the night. okeydoke7 was the runaway winner with 50 goals - he booted 30 more than the runner up, sataris: which I guess highlights our problems in attack. We need to find another reliable goal kicker or two, because okey can't do it on his own!!!

But that's not tonight's problem - congratulations okeydoke7 on winning the Groove Medal for season 34, and we look forward to many more big hauls from you in the coming season.
How many leading club goal kicking awards is this okeydoke7 ?
