I do laugh that they cannot introduce him as a Premiership Coach or anything of note. " We are joined by Ken Hinkley who oversaw seven final appearances in 13 years at Port Adelaide"

Lol. It’s ridiculous isn’t it.

Has Rodney Eade ever been introduced as ‘who coached the Western Bulldogs to 3 consecutive preliminary finals’, or Gary Ayres ever been introduced as ‘who oversaw six finals appearances in 9.5 years at the Cats and Crows’?

Answers on a postage stamp.

Ken on SEN with Kane and Sam Edmund this morning. I am sure everyone will be jumping to listen to that interview.:)

lol Ken still found a way to indirectly blame injuries

They should start introducing players like "and now we welcome Travis Boak who played 12 finals to the show!"

They should've just left it at "Record breaking former AFL coach Ken Hinkley".

We certainly got an insight into Ken's mindset.
"If your gonna play Brisbane and not gonna have 2 or 3 of your best 8 players in your team. You cant possibly expect to win"

No doubt it makes it difficult, but overcoming adversity is part of the challenge and something you need to embrace, especially in those big games such as finals and sadly our finals record speaks for itself.

Is it any wonder why we, as a club, failed to achieve anything under this loser?

What a defeatist mindset. He gave mentally weak players (of his moulding) an easy out and by gum did they take it.

Compare this to any anecdote of Jack coaching, where he made players believe they were the best (even if talent was lacking). Underdog Port teams would perennially compete for, and win, premierships purely based off the fact the head coach made them to believe as a unit they were invincible.

Ol' Kenny with the, sorry guys Boaky stubbed his toe so we cant compete with the big boys today. Fcuk me.

The 2004 Grand Final excepted (of course).

We really took a left turn at Albuquerque didn’t we

Yeah that would be like trying to win a grand final against Brisbane with Primus and Francou out injured and Wilson unable to lift his arms above shoulder height.

It was like that Showdown where the Crows were still existential dogsh¡t and we were still nominal contenders, and he wheeled out the “to get something out of these games you have to be playing at your absolute best” line.

So is it any wonder the team psychologically crumbled when the Crows (or most big game and finals opponents) brought the kitchen sink, and we started off the boil somewhat.

The entire approach was pregnant with failure with Hinkley the proud father.

I just envisioned one of those 'medical mystery' shows where it turns out the 6 month (13 years for Hinkley) pregnancy was just a giant shit they couldn't pass.

They'll play the way I tell em to play.

For I am the mayor of Port Adelaide

When he first speaks, the memories of trauma flood back...

I’m content to see this series of threads carrying on like it is.

We must never, ever, tear ourselves away from the memory of Hinkley.

He is our Epstein.

His negative mindset was an absolute cancer.

Wasn't as noticeable early days but it was always there and probably stems from the days at the cats losing grand finals. I watched the 1994 GF mini the other night and looked like Hinkley had a bit of a howler that day, a couple costly turnovers, the finals are scary mantra was born.

At Port as early as year one in 2013, 4 goals up at half time in a semi final against his beloved Cats, he told the players to get ready for a Geelong launch in the second half so we predictably started the second half timid and looking over our shoulders, basically mentally prepared to be run over.

Funnily enough our most backs to the wall wins came when his job was on the line. Never when he was safe and we really needed a win for reasons foreign to him like team success.

And people still had the audacity to say it was all the playing lists fault. How they couldn’t see how terrible Hinkley’s attitude was the whole team is beyond me.
