Some that make me sad

Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah
Eric Clapton - Tears in Heaven
Live - Lightning Crashes
Gary Jules - Mad World
The Fray - How to Save a Life (only just got into this)
Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars (listened to this a while back before it came out in Australia, recommended by English people)

-Mav

Everything's Turning To White - Paul Kelly.

I can't listen to this when I am feeling down, it is just devastating. Based on a story by Raymond Carver I think.

Chasing Cars- Snow Patrol.

The lyrics in particular: "If I lay here, would you lie with me and just forget the world". It seemed fitting that it was the first song after I heard about Belinda Emmett today.

Anathema - One Last Goodbye

this is probably saddest song I've heard. What makes it worse is knowing the Cavanagh brothers wrote about their mum when she died.
Some of the lyrics...

"In my dreams I can see you
I can tell you how I feel
In my dreams I can hold you
And it feels so real

I still feel the pain
I still feel your love"

One Last Goodbye - Live Video (from one of their dvds):

Two Little Boys - Rolf Harris

I totally agree!

I only jsut downloaded it the other week, after humming the tune to myself one day.

Two Little Boys

Two little boys had two little toys
Each had a wooden horse
Gaily they played each summer's day
Warriors both of course
One little chap then had a mishap
Broke off his horse's head
Wept for his toy then cried with joy
As his young playmate said

Did you think I would leave you crying
When there's room on my horse for two
Climb up here Jack and don't be crying
I can go just as fast with two
When we grow up we'll both be soldiers
And our horses will not be toys
And I wonder if we'll remember
When we were two little boys

Long years had passed, war came so fast
Bravely they marched away
Cannon roared loud, and in the mad crowd
Wounded and dying lay
Up goes a shout, a horse dashes out
Out from the ranks so blue
Gallops away to where Joe lay
Then came a voice he knew

Did you think I would leave you dying
When there's room on my horse for two
Climb up here Joe, we'll soon be flying
I can go just as fast with two
Did you say Joe I'm all a-tremble
Perhaps it's the battle's noise
But I think it's that I remember
When we were two little boys

Do you think I would leave you dying
There's room on my horse for two
Climb up here Joe, we'll soon by flying
Back to the ranks so blue
Can you feel Joe I'm all a tremble
Perhaps it's the battle's noise
But I think it's that I remember
When we were two little boys

A few songs take on a sadness because of events tied to the songs.

Two that spring to mind are

Joy Division - Love will tear us apart.

This song takes on even more meaning because of Curtis death and the song being released posthumously.

We've only just begun - The Carpenters

Sad because her voice sounds so sad and of course the poor lass ends up dying and a great talent is lost.

Another sad song if anyone knows it is

The Green Fileds of France - The Fureys

Chris Rea - Tell Me There's A Heaven.

I defy any loving parent to listen to this song and not get emotional.

The little girl she said to me
What are these things that I can see?
Each night when I come home from school
When mamma calls me in for tea
Oh every night a baby dies
And every night a mamma cries
What makes those men do what they do?
To make that person black and blue?

Grandpa says, they're happy now
They sit with God, in paradise
With angel's wings
And still somehow, it makes me feel
Like ice.

Tell me there's a heaven
Tell me that it's true
Tell me there's a reason
Why I'm seeing what I do

Tell me there's a heaven
Where all those people go
Tell me they're all happy now
Pappa tell me that it's so

So do I tell her that it's true?
That there's a place for me and you
Where hungry children smile and say
We wouldn't have no other way

But every painful crack of bones
Is a step along the way
Every wrong done, is a game plan
To that great and joyful day

And I'm looking at the Father and the Son
And I'm looking at the Mother and the Daughter
And I'm watching them in tears of pain
And I'm watching them suffer
Don't tell that little girl, tell me

Tell me there's a heaven
Tell me that it's true
Tell me there's a reason
Why I'm seeing what I do

Tell me there's a heaven
Where all those people go
Tell me they're all happy now
Pappa tell me that it's so

I Know It's Over by The Smiths.

It starts off with, "Oh Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head." It's a song about loneliness and wanting to love and be loved. A very intense and emotional song and brilliantly written and performed.

Great song:thumbsu:
