In my opinion we've taken a risk but it's a risk worth while. gained Gardiner and Birss only lost pick 43. worth the risk for sure. Thoughts?

Whilst I admit to strongly advocating that we hold on to our draft picks and recruit youth, I cannot complain about the results of our trading.

Michael Gardiner is a #1 draft pick (1996 National Draft), himself, and an All Australian.
Sure, there are serious question marks, but the upside is tremendous.

Shane Birss was picked up @ #26 in the 2000 National Draft
Shane's career has been beset by many setbacks, the move to the Saints offers him a fresh start with new opportunities.

To get both these guys for a single third round draft pick is a bargain.

Importantly we kept our first two draft picks as well as strengthening our list.

Unlike the Dockers who have thrown all their eggs in one basket, we've addressed the area that most needed fixing and got the chance to top up our list with some exciting youngsters. A top 10 pick in this draft is great news.
