Considering 3 years ago the saints and geelong were both cosidered to have the best young list, and the saints had there measure, now two days ago the cats won the GF bu 20 goals, and the saint didn't even make the finals. the saints player, coaching staff, and board need to sit down and see how this was done, the whole geelong club was united behind a common goal, hopefully they the saints can get themselves together, and get over their petty squabbling and have real crack in 2008.

Does anyone think the with a full list and a stable club the saints could give the reining premiers a run for their money next year>?

why do i care? my wife is mad st-kilda supporter, and i go to most games with her, and i would love for the saints to win a GF for both her and the legend Rob Harvey.

If we can get our full list on the field i think we could give any team in the comp a run for their money.

The Players will have been able to adjust to Ross Lyons coaching style and game plan now (our 2nd half of the season was a lot better than the first).

If we have good luck for once with injuries we will be a good chance.

Not convinced, as good as our list CAN be, you dont see the real desire at the contest every week, i think there is an ordinary culture at the club that close enough is good enough, if Ross Lyon can change that and have every one on the same wave length then we could be anything, including but not limited to better than the cats.

I think Geelong showed how a focused pre season and a good run with injuries a team can do anything. Lets not forget how poor Geelong were in 2006, but to their credit they pulled their collective fingers out and put in the required work load. Also missing the finals and having a longer break will do our guys a world of good.

With a good run of injuries and some players stepping up a top 4 finish should be expected from the team.

I think only time will tell. Ross has now had almost 12 months with the group, and alot of that time was taken up by getting to know his coaching styles and game plans. Saints will be better for the year, and the fact we didn't make finals was almost a blessing id discuise, it told the club we will need to work harded in 08 if we want sucsess, for me, a solid pre-season with a unified group will do us the world of good. We WILL make a play for the flag in 08.

We can do it. Aside form this year we have had better years than the cats, with substantial injuries.

If they can come back form last season, we can come back from this season.

They played great and did not lose focus of their goal. However, just because they have won a GF, does not mean we never can or that our method is wrong. Let us not forget they almost chocked against Collingwood and only got over the line due to the timing of the siren.

This happened to us a few years back v Port.

Luck is a fortune but Geelong really did build their own.

I am proud for Geelong, they deserved it and worked hard. I still think we can and still think we can get up to have a good rilvary with them again.

Does anybody remember what was supposedly destined for the dockers after last years run...?

Fact: Geelong have had 3 players retire since 2004.
Fact: St Kilda have had 10 players retire since 2004.

Question: Who had the youngest list?

Fact: In 2008, St Kilda's list will have an average age of about 23 years, 8 months
Fact: In 2008, Geelong's list will have an average age of about 25 years, 5 months

Question: Who has the youngest list now?

very much so.. we only lost 3 out of the last 11, with 1 draw.. if that was replicated in the first half we would have finished 2nd.. but we didn't, hence why we didn't even make the eight..

You guys should make the 8 but r no where near challenging geelong next year, i don't see enough imporvement yet coming thru at youre club whilst we still have hawkins, Selwood, Egan etc all young and only getting better, i hope youre premiership clock hasnt gone past but u guys really did butcher to many chances under thomas and unless Lyon looks at how Geelong play the game and alter his style u guys have no chance of winning a flag in my opinion, plus chapman wouldnt allow it anyway, he said we were bette and he was right, i know so many Saints fans who were sick watching us win a flag cause they believe they should of had 2-3 in the last 5 yrs, its time to change the culture abit, get united thru the whole club, pis s Butters off, get people at ya club like we did with Cook, Costa and bomber and work towards a common goal, thats the only way to do it, forget egos and bulid a team.

has anyone ever noticed that teams are so scared of our forward line they flood us and at every contest riewoldt has 2 opponents and gezza has 2 opponenents (not anymore though) whereas geelong never got flooded because there forward line didnt have "superstars" e.g mooney, chapman....there great players but no riewoldt, so thats why they kicked so many more goals...1 on 1 contests....we never get them...and we lack someone to fire us up...lenny hayes is a star, so is dal santo, but you dont see a gary ablett jnr wizzing around the midfield or half forward line for the saints do ya...we lack spark...look at geelong, they get excited when they kick a goal, and they have ten players charge at the goal kicker to say well done, we dont have that...when we kick a goal nothing happens, no one gives the signal to switch on....does anyone else see that???

I went to Victoria for round 21 Geelong v Port and took in Saints v Eagles at the Dome - first game ever I've seen in Melbourne. While the venue was impressive and the game was close, I was a little disappointed with the Saints fans who (for a home game) seemed quiet and never lifted the roof off. Are they always like that. The crowd was much better at the Geelong Port game.

Also Geelong often have 1 on 1 in the forwards because of the speed of transition from the backline.

Lets face it you need a lot of luck to win a premiership. Every team except Richmond can win the premiership. Geelong had one injury Egan and The Cats had an unchanged line up for most of the year. West Coast was in it until Kerr broke his finger. Luck plays a big part in Football just ask ST Kilda supporters in 2004.:

I think with a solid pre-season and a some luck we can make a strong challenge in '08. I have faith in RL's gameplan but I feel in that when we implemented it we didn't quite have the fitness to keep up the intensity for the four quaters. This was evident against West Coast late in the season where we were all over them like a rash in the first but couldn't keep it up and their midfield ran over us. A good pre-season should see our Sainters fighting fit and ready to do the business.:thumbsu:

I also believe you were on a par with Geelong....you had a committed united team, playing as a united team while being coached by GT......only real problem was the major continuing injuries.....THEN....one RB decided he didn't like GT anymore, so sacked him......your team and structure hasn't been the same since IMO....hopefully, things can settle now RB has gone, and the team and Ross Lyon get back to where they were......Your basic list seems good, should be up there in the 8 next season, if you can get those injuries under control.......Good luck and hang in there....

should of been Geel vs stkilda in 2004 grand final with abit of luck, 2005 i still blame Thomas and his coaching and team selection against syd in Prem final, still rate it the worst coaching i have ever witnessed

u guys should make the 8 and push top 4 but u need to look closely at how we play and hope lyon forgets how Syd won flags cause this group needs to play with more flair and it should with bloke like Leeny and Dal etc and 2 key fwds, stop chipping it around and things may change

It is about quick ball movement but being accountable, like the cats play. You play accountable and move quickly, you are going to look awesome, like Geelong, and give your forwards one on one chances, and allow your midflield to stream through.

I love the way that so many Saints fans believe that 'luck' will deliver them their first premiership in 42 years.

Perhaps injury management should be a higher priority for St Kilda than searching for 4 leaf clovers.

Perhaps drafting non injury-prone players should be a higher priority than avoiding breaking mirrors.

Perhaps not playing players who are 36 and have chronic hamstring problems should be a higher priority than watching out for black cats.

I honestly hope the St Kilda coaching staff have the same opinion that 'only luck' is needed. When Geelong [performed a thorough dissection and review of season 2006, I did not read that the final outcome was "Geelong need luck to win the premiership".

How mediocre can a club be?

Saints r not a club its more like a circus, Thomas and butterss i will miss u both, thanks for the memries and thanks for showing the rest of the comp how to fu k up a club completly, its nearly bordering on embarassing how that list never even made a grand final, well done Mr Thomas, u were right in sacking blighty, worked wonders for the club and youre hip pocket lol.

Please do not tell me you are refering to the great Robert Harvey? FYI he played every game in 2006 and played 19 in 2007.

Thats 23+19 out of a possible 23+22
42 out of 45
Not a bad effort for a 36 year old!
Get your facts right before you type ****wit
He shits on any player that ever played or will play for Geelong, even The great Ablett snr.
So go back to your own board, oh and remember to pick up you handbag on the way out!

You were lucky to win your prelim this year. Luck plays a part. Another 5 minutes in that game and collingwood would have had another premiership.

But well done, go celebrate with your mates away from our board. Or are you a hopeless on line loner?

Did you watch the game live or did you watch a virtual version?!!!

Fact: our best players are 23 yr old (ablett Bartel)

Yeah so much for your Facts..........

Just averaged our list in Excel;
Currently the average age for our list (excluding Rookies) is 23.4
As at March 30, 2008 our average age will be 23.9

If you don't include Robert Harvey, St Kilda have the 3rd least experienced list in the AFL.

You can't just hang your hat on "inexperience" and claim that it will automatically deliver success in a few years. The players have to be good enough.

Look at Richmond, their list is inexperienced but most of their kids are still rubbish.

Do we really need a thread that invites Geelong supporters to our board to discuss how good their team is compared to ours?

There was much discussion a few years ago about who had the best young list. We had our chances to win a premiership and didn't take it. They did.

The Grand Final was bad enough.

Bloody hell.

Please find St Kilda things to talk about. Please!
