Did anyone hear the Sam Day rumour Ditts and Roo dropped on Triple M tonight? I missed it but Slippery Pete mentioned it in another thread but didnt say what it was.

I would do a Tippet for Day swap any day.

It's not a rumour, it's Ditts spitballing on what could be a plan if they thought Tipp might exercise his rights under a current contract, ie get in early and try and snag a Sam Day at the end of this year rather than wait for a second rounder (allegedly) next year.

Is Sam Day all hype? I know he's still so, so young, but at every level he's played, he's never truly stood out. He's got that ridiculous potential with his great size and gigantic reach and leap, but he's just so raw. I understand that he's still only 18 and KPP take a good 2-3 years before even really getting settled in the line-up, but I'm not sure about this bloke.

There's no way in hell GC would actually give Sam Day up for Tippett, unless Sam actually demanded to go back to Adelaide.

There's no way they will let go of a talent like that.

They may have to mate. After the 2 years have elapsed they are gong to have an astonishing array of young talent. Some will be looking for decent coin I imagine. They had 30 debutants this year + people like Caddy a top tenner injured all season + more to draft in a couple of months (not out of contract til end of 2013 though). I imagine all their senior recruits are on heavily front-ended contracts however, but there's still going to be a herd at the gate come mid/late 2012 when all their first real contracts are being negotiated.

And Drummond there's just no way of telling with most of these young talls. Who would have known that J Riewoldt would turn out better than Hawkins....or that Hawkins would now have a revival and possibly be looking the goods.

My main query over Day is his pace. Seems to be very very slow, especially off the mark, but he has everything else in place to be a potential star - huge hands, great leap, well balanced, well built.

I can assure you picking up Tippett is not going to help their coin situation. He will want to be earning at least what he is now....

And I can not see Gold Coast giving up Sam Day...

There you go.

Tippett is as valuable to us as anyone (we aren't paying him so much for fun), we wouldn't let him go without a damn good reason.

Neither side would WANT to do that trade, but if both players wanted to leave...

We won't let go of Sam Day. Coaches have said a few times that despite his injury, he's affirmed a place in our start-up for sure.

Yes, we'll have to drop players in the coming years. But there's not much of a chance that Sam Day, Lynch or any of the other superstars will be gone. You'll likely see us drop players you won't have heard of, who just haven't managed to crack the senior side. There's plenty of them.

I cannot see us going after Tippet, to be honest. Even if he wants to go. We won't need him nearly as much when our KPP's have about 30-40 games under the belt, which will be at the end of 2012. On top of List Management people specifically saying that we will not be going after anymore senior bodies.

I dont know if it was spitballing. Roo questioned him on that, and Ditts said categorically that the issue of this potential trade had been raised at the club, and that the Crows were exceptionally keen on Day.

I have no doubt that we'd be mad keen on Day (Rendell sure was) and I'm also guessing that the idea of trading Kurtley for him has been discussed to some degree. However, the gulf between said discussion and the actual possibility of a trade happening is enormous, not sure this is worth discussing until something more tangible comes up around the time of trade week.

To be fair;

The rumour of Sam Day to the Crows has only come about due to a couple of things:

  • Sam is home sick, and wants to head back to Adelaide - from the story I have heard he has preferenced Port currently.
  • I believe this is due to the interest that Port have shown (we have discussed a possible trade with the Gold Coast) and he would probably be further in the line at Port than he would be at the Crows (Behind Tipps and Walker.)
  • Port also have slightly larger buying power with Pick 4/6 this year - which may be traded for Day (With the possible addition of a Player.)
  • The "Crows" rumour only came about as a comment was made on the Radio last night by Roo "Why would he want to go to Port???" (Due to the fact we are currently a rabble)

Perhaps there is more to the Crows story that I know, but from The Big Warrior's info we spoke about last night - Port are currently in the box seat (possible continuing from the story that Butcher may look to go home at the end of next year.)

Sorry to post on your board again guys, and sorry if I have missed an article/news from somewhere.

Don't want him. He was supposed to be playing for GCS all year and was not injured, but just couldn't be ****ed getting himself fit enough and never passed the fitness tests to get selected for the side.

That and he's a shit bloke.

No the story started bc Ditts stated he had info from a source that the Crows were trying to hammer out a deal that involved Tipp for Day. It wasn't until a caller made the comment that he had sources saying he was coming back to SA regardless and it wasn't to the crows. Thats when Roo remarked why would he choose port atm.

Didnt he do a knee which put him out for the rest of the year?

Tippet got that contract in an exceptional environment where teams entering the competition were given bucket loads of money to throw at players they were targeting. Under normal circumstances he would not be earning what he is now. I wouldn't be surprised that in his next contract he has to take a pay cut unless he show marked improvement or is able to leverage his out clauses.
