Young Tassie boy delisted from pies, Heard he is training with us??

Anyone know how he's going and is he any sort of chance to get picked up??
seemed stiff at collingwood not to play more games!!

:)
Thanks for that Mrs Iles.

From what I've been told (admittedly by a Collingwood supporter) he was a class above at VFL level and was named an emergency for Collingwood countless times.

Personally I wouldn't have a clue about him but he seems to be a real athlete from the draft camp results that Kildonan posted so he's the kind of guy you'd be happy to take a punt on with a rookie selection.

If the Saints did rookie him let me get in early with a quippy nickname. How about Apple!
Woops ,sorry about that, time for bed.

Not bad.

Now go to bed. :p

"Iles charges down the wing, his tagger chasing behind him, he takes a bounce, he takes two - ooh, there's the burst - he's in the fifty, forty, launches it... GOAL! He turns to his panting tagger, and what's that he's saying? Ah yes, 'How do like THEM apples!?!?!'"

Guys if you get chance Iles is definately worth a rookie spot.
I still believe he was a good contributer, but we have a few players ahead of him, that's why he was always an emergency for the seniors
He's got tenacity, can run the lines, and is quite handy in the back line or midfield.

Given a regular go at senior level he would do very well.Unfortunaetly collingwood didn't persist.Would rather concentrate on players like heath shaw, ryan cook, ben johnston, stanley were all ahead of Sammy Iles.

So yep, worth ago on the rookie list.

Sounds like you should re-rookie him then.

We are loaded with backs.

I looked him up on Wikipedia so all of this is probably half wrong.
Sam was overlooked in the 2006 draft and Collingwood got him in the preseason draft.
So obviously not rated that highly as a recruit.
To me , if we did get him he would be vying for a spot in defence against Geary, Miles, and maybe R Clarke.

To me the fact that he was overlooked in the draft, then let go by the Pies would indicate that he would be at best a solid fringe player. His best game was against the Saints in "soggy" conditions. Players who excell in wet conditions can be handy, but we are playing predominantly in the Dome this year.
Has he got Birss syndrome, he has played well at VFL, he has played only a couple of AFL games and gone OK when he did, but he has been emergency most games .

IMO we would be better off getting a late draft pick on an untried guy from the U17s or redrafting Attard ( If he is not still injured ) if we really need another non-key defender who can play right now.

am I the only one who thought ex-collingwood player, wet conditions = "McGough" (<-- kinda looks like him too)

His first two seasons at the club he was a consistent ball winner and one of our best players in the VFL. I think like many other players his form suffered last year when the stand alone team came in and the focus shifted from winning to development.
