Just not up to it.

NOT sure what he has on the selectors but he has completely fooled them into believing he has the technique to be an opener.

History showed he was moved down the order in u19 world cup because he was flawed against the new ball. But no worries he is our best opening prospect in the country? Lol please.

I'm sure he will get a run in the ashes and I'm sure he will slog some runs on the flat tracks we prepared but we don't need another 15 years like Warner where he can't hit runs away from home.

Australia haven't prepared flat tracks for like 5 years and it would be insane if they did so against this England team this summer.

He's just not ready for test cricket. He hasn't sorted out his game yet.

Didn't watch the innings but read the commentary on Cricinfo - sounds like a bizarre innings where he was almost out about 5 times, and seemed very confused about whether to be cautious or go the big shots.
He was almost out 5 times in debut as well.

Very lucky to have added two more tests at all.

The dropping early in the year has screwed him mentally. Doesn't know whether to attack or defend.
Give him the rest of the series.
If he doesn't fire he can go back to shield for a few years and work things out and come back. Benefit of picking young players
What has changed from Day 1 of Boxing Day? Not much other than he got away with it and too much smoke was blown up him - he’s still the same player.

Smoke up the backside is right.

How many seemingly knowledgeable types were willing g to give him a pass for that innings? Ridiculous.

The public and media boosted him to heights not seen for an innings full of lucka nd a good eye. It was laughable he was given a gig in the first place in front of players who have showed more consistency at the top of the order at FC level.

There is such a fine line between playing the fabled ‘fearless’ knock and playing an innings where you are oblivious to consequences of failure.

That sounds like a stupid thing to say I get it, but good players who know when to attack etc and take on bowlers do so because they are unafraid of doing it. But they are ALWAYS afraid of what happens if they f**k it up, I’d imagine.

That Boxing Day stuff looked to me like a tailender who had basically just decided it didn’t matter. Everyone loved it of course - why wouldn’t you if you were an Aussie fan. Teenager on debut taking down the world’s best bowler in front of 90,000 people with shots like that. But it was almost like it was a joke, like it was funny. ‘Haha look at the kid he’s got them rattled because he’s just trying to smash everything and doesn’t care.’ Like a sideshow almost and the stuff that followed wouldn’t have helped. At the time probably all it needed was Khawaja - like he did last night at one point apparently (I didn’t see it) maybe when he’d gotten to 30 and had his fun - to say ‘pull your head in you’ve had your fun, this is a Boxing Day test match not a joke. Wait for a ball in your spot then smash it.’

Instead he made a half century swinging like a rusty gate, everyone told him how great it was and he’s not been able to work out what the hell he’s supposed to do ever since

I was pretty insistent at the start of the summer that he should be given a couple of years in F-C cricket to learn and develop and nothing I've seen since has changed my mind on that.
