The player every one is forgetting in that U19 winning World Cup is his team mate Harry Dixon.Always rated Dixon ahead of Konstas, surprised the Vict selectors have taken so long to bring him in to the team but perhaps a wise move.

I no longer what is the “right way” anymore. Grade / Premier Cricket has been allowed to rot through neglect and so all we have is “Talent Pathways”. T20 has robbed us of the Long Tom Moody’s, Border’s, Swampy Marsh’s, Lawson’s and Hookesy’s who despite being passed their best acted as Shepherds for the next generation handing down the knowledge of FC and International level..

My thoughts on batting coaching are well known, what I witnessed today was embarrassing.

Absolutely now we have Jake Lehmann :drunk:

I don't watch a lot of Shield cricket, mostly just highlights and the odd session here and there. I was under the impression that Konstas had made his runs playing quite conventional cricket.

I think the way he batted in the series against India was a success because we had no answer to Bumrah and were constantly being early wickets down, no runs on the board in the first spells. The hyper aggressiveness was able to get us into the innings a little. Was only an average of 28 from a small sample size but think it packed more than that. Don't think that style has any chance of being a long term success though, just too high risk. Especially when it isn't a complete surprise like the India series.

Very surprised that he played like that. Maybe it was just because of Boland and he was trying to throw him off. The Bazballers are the only ones who haven't been dominated by Scotty B, so maybe he thought trying to get at him was the best chance of succeeding. We'll see, I'm not going to judge everything based on todays innings but I hope he gets into a more conventional style for the remainder of the season and gets a heaps of runs.

how many players this year have been done wafting outside off against boland?
There's attacking shots and attacking shots. That was just an horrifically bad shot selection. Just so low percentage.

I like his ramp because he puts himself in a french cricket position that protects his stumps and he's going to hit balls that are full and on the stumps and it also encourages a bowler like Boland to bowl full and on the stumps which opens up other scoring shots and makes Boland less dangerous that his usual line and length.

But to start ramping which encourages Boland to bowl a stump hitting line and length and then choose the shot where you're the most likely to miss balls on the stumps .. Idiotic.

A few questions for selectors:

Do you endorse Konstas’ approach?
If not, have you told him?
If you do endorse it, why is he not in the ODI side already? Why is his approach worse than JFM or Connolly for example?
My assumption is that they'd endorse his attacking approach, but that doesn't mean they'd endorse all his shot selections. That was clearly a terrible shot selection. He's a 19 year old batsman. He's not the finished product and he'll make errors - even the most experienced, closest to being finished products do.

Most of his shots selected are premeditated. That is not an attacking mindset (which is also a bad approach).

He needs a complete rethink.

He's shifting his stance to disrupt line and length or open up the field. It is very much an attacking mindset. To succeed doing it, he needs to do it smarter, choosing options with less risk than some of his decisions have been - eg. dismissal in his most recent test innings and that one yesterday were really bad shot selections.

Sam before he got picked in the test side was batting fine...his strike rate was good and he was playing good conventional cricket shots...his two tons evidence of that.....but since his flicks in the test against bumrah ..his batting has changed ...just play normally kid that runs will come you have talent

I really like his flick ramp shot. He basically gets himself in a french cricket position protecting his stumps. I don't really see a big risk and think it will become a standard first class shot.

But exposing his stumps or slogging across the line as a tactic against the new ball in a first class game? Just seems ridiculous to me.

Get someone quick on a fast pitch and they’ll take his head off

Maybe, but I think he's in a good position to avoid bouncers. I can't see an issue with that stance - if there's no field set for it. But if you're right you put it away for some bowlers and/or pitches.

Explain to me how exactly?
Have you ever played volleyball?

His change of stance basically puts him into a volleyball digging position from where it's really easy to move your upper body in either direction or get low. Easier than standard stance. The shot itself is really similar to a volleyball dig with a wrist flick and he's set to sway away from the line of the ball and he does sway, otherwise he'll flick straight balls straight into his face.

The stance cuts off most of the field so it'll never be standard, but if there's no field set for it, I don't see an issue with it.
