Dropping him from the Sri Lankan tour has stuffed him mentally I reckon.
Needs a spell in grade cricket if anything for a refresh have some fun in the big bash then re energise for the second half of the shield year

Australian selectors are ******s when it comes to picking and dropping young players, last summer for example.. 2 weak sides at home and they let Warner see the summer out.. perfect opportunity to give a young player some confidence.. every sub continent tour they drop players consistently instead of backing them...

Has barely made a decent score in Shield since his Test debut.

He should research any English heritage as he'd probably fit well with BazBall, slogging a quick 20-30 before gifting his wicket away.

Konstas and Ollie Davies averages of 50 everyone on here were raving about have tanked lol... both just above 30 now

I support a pick-and-stick for young players generally, but you need to select the right players in the first place.

Konstas and Connolly for example, were not the right players.
And I'll what is worse and what I hate far more, is a genuine prospect like McSweeney who gets picked out of position and then discarded, and then gets overlooked for subsequent series. Hanging him out to dry like that is a far bigger mistake.

Like the Aussie selectors, I think they're all genuine prospects. It's been pretty standard to pick blokes early and if they don't fire leave them in the shield until they force their way back in.

Warner didn't see the summer out. He retired after the Pakistan series and everyone lost their shit because they picked the 24 year old Cameron Green over the 31 year old Cameron Bancroft to replace him.

you’re burying the lede a little bit. people were upset that steve smith chose to open, instead of the selectors giving bancroft (who’d been among the best performing openers in the shield) another chance, they gave it to smith to fuel his own ego or something.

being mad at green was a byproduct of that decision, not what caused it.

I think there's something a bit special about him, has to be to do what he did last Boxing Day, big stage performer. I don't want him opening in the Test side now but he'll be right in the long run.
Yeah, I'm a long way from calling him the next superstar but it was the exact same thing with Steve Smith. Picked as a leggie who could bat there was an innings very early on his career against England here where he scored a 54 not out in the 2010-11 series we lost. He played some weird as **** shots and looked unorthodox but it was the mentality to do that as a kid that made me think yeah he'll be ok.
Bit like Warner blasting that half century in his t20 debut against a good SA team.

Half the battle of cricket is the mentality.
