Recommitted Sam Walsh [RFA 2026] - name was floated for a move in 2025, stayed

Walsh appears to me to be a player that wants success and money would be 2nd to that
If TDK leaves and the players Carlton have on the list it just doesnt even look close to winning a premiership in the next 5-6 years and by then MacKay , Curnnow , walsh , cripps , Wietering , Cerra will either be done or close to done.

maybe it better to do what Richmond did and start retooling for the next tilt whilst these players have trade value

Maybe a pick around 5 and another pick around 15?

At his best i think he's worth two very good 1st rd picks, but we haven't seen that for a while and he's always missing pre season due to his back injury...
Yeah I doubt any club are coughing up guaranteed A-grader picks for Walsh. He’s much more speculative than that due to injury issues and intermittent form.

I doubt any club comes calling for Walsh this year for 3 reasons

Buying club : Price will be too high
Selling club : No club will pay the asking price
Walsh : Bad year and 1 year away from free agency will back himself in to have a good year and better contract as a free agent.

Probably best for all 3 parties to wait another year

I'd much rather wait the extra year than move him on at the end of this year, for a variety of reasons.

The back injury is a concern, but let's not pretend there aren't heaps of players who have issues that need constant monitoring. He may not be at his best, but he's still a brilliant footballer.

For the people saying Walsh will back himself in to have a good year before becoming a FA, he may think his best years are gone now due to the injury and there is a risk of the offers dropping if he continues to stink it up.

But equally I agree a trade could be difficult as his sentimental value to the blues doesn’t match actual output. So a club will need to overpay on actual output to get him.

Will always be worth $1,000,000 x 6 years as a free agent

I’d be interested to know how clubs judge the risk with him given the back will never full come good and will need to be managed.

I’d be happy for Sam to get a fresh start somewhere. Think he could show much more than he currently is.

Watching Crippa waste away his career with no success might also be part of it psychologically, I wonder.

Would actually like to see him play for Geelong. Think he would suit them.

He definitely would suit IF he's fit. But you'd be looking at a 6 year deal or similar to get him out as an FA and I'd be very nervous about that with his back injury.

Reckon there’s more chance of me playing for the Saints than TDK.
Off topic in this thread but if that was the case, why would he not just announce he's resigned? Unless you're suggesting there's a third club in play?

If Walsh left could the Blues pay TDK enough to stay?

And with their list the way it is, is that better management for them?

Genuine question - not looking at Walsh to Geelong or anything.

How much would you be willing to pay TDK per year? Just because you can get close to Saints doesnt necessarily mean you should

we dont over pay anyone so if hes asking 1.7 or whatever its dont matter as we aint paying it.

And in our structure he wont be getting more than Jezza, Baz, Holmes etc.

No reason for him to sign right now.

TDK is not worth 1.7m regardless if Walsh leaves in the future, it's poor list management.
