Why is it so crap?
The AFL. Not in an AFL-bashing way, it was inevitable.

But kids growing up will already have an AFL team and their own school/ammo team to support, and there's only so much time people can put into footy clubs each weekend. Unless their parents/family are still hardcore SANFL fans, they're not going to get invested in it because it's no longer the best footy you can easily see/watch and they don't have already have that attachment that we feel for footy clubs we love.

Also older fans drop-off for the same reasons. Prioritising AFL, kids sport games, etc.

Grand finals between bigger SANFL clubs can still pull 40k and marquee games during the year might get a few thousand, but it's very few people's number 1 priority these days.

Edit: And I say "kids" but this has been the case for 30 years now. So there's pretty much 2 generations of people now who are unlikely to have a SANFL allegience.

What has happened to Gollant?

Looks a shadow now.

Might just be exhaustion, seeing it's his first full year of football (noting he was injured for half of last year and 2020 was an odd year). Or it's just a bit of a form slump.

dropping your knees to receive a high tackle free needs to start being punished because there is no incentive to stop doing it. A poor tackler is going to get crucified one day purely because an opponent drops their knees to win a cheap high free and they get a neck injury. I think suspensions need to occur. Its not a natural movement when a tackle is oncoming to begin. There is no excuse.
