SANFL Round 1

I saw Sellar play quite a bit last year and whenever he played in the Reserves he seemed to look okay but the Glenelg reserves were a very good side and won majority of their games. When i saw Sellar play league for Glenelg he looked totally lost. I think if you put Sellar in a side like Centrals or the Eagles he would play a lot better but i dont think this will ever happen. The Glenelg midfielders skill level at time is terrible and from what ive heard their entries into their forward 50 today was absoulutely atrocious. I think as long as Sellar is playing in the Glenelg league side he will struggle.

Spot on, this is what I saw today. Mickan's use of Sellar was deplorable. He hardly gave him a chance later on in the game. At the start the poor guy was trying to find space while also contending with the other Bays forwards who weren't helping him at all. Freddy Bassett and I saw a different game today, I saw some pointing and then him not following up, yes because the space had then been covered by my South boys. When Sellar did find some space and provided a good lead it was honoured with some shithouse kicking from the Glenelg midfielders.

There was no system for Sellar in the league side from what I saw today. He is the third preferred forward option. He was played out of full forward at the start of the game, but a full forward is only as good as the deliveries they get.

Oh and I heard one of the funniest things on the footy field than I have for a long time. When a player refers to themselves in the third person to call a team mate out, I think you are in trouble - "mouse's ball" :D

We will have to agree to disagree on what we saw today Nikki and I must admit I hope you are right and I am wrong. Great to hear you are a South supporter, there isnt many of us around!:thumbsu:

It was very hard to want Sellar to do well but also my South boys to do well too... I know at one stage I did clap a bit of play he was involved in and then realised that I was wearing my South guernsey and that might look a bit odd. :p Although not as strange as the little kid in the Port Magpies guernsey that was there.

There were a few of us South supporters there today, I suspect that the long suffering Panther supporter tends to be fairly quiet as we don't trust our team to actually win! :p It's that Glenelg mob that are rowdy and don't know the rules that I had fun laughing at.

I was in the grandstand with mostly South faithful and was redfaced a few times when I was pleading for Sellar to lead. After the game all the supporters I was with were almost in shock. But the boys really wanted to win today, alot more than the bays did. It amazes me that last year we had McGrath, Kenna,Twomey, Archard,Wright, Clarke, McGlone (and also two ruckman in Parry and King who are obviously still with the club but just unavailable this week) and we got thumped more often than not and today we added only Torney but had a heap of blokes who really wanted to win for the club. Looking at the ressies though we are paper thin, a few injuries and we are doomed.

Can't believe you would want an opposition player to do well.

We are South supporters RL. We are a very strange lot if you hadnt worked that out. If Sellar kicked ten today I would of been ecstatic. Unlike you and Drummond I go to bed at night and dream about the Crows not my SANFL team. Believe me mate if you had endured the humiliations and wasted afternoons that I and my father have over the years you would understand. The last game I went to was versus your mob last year at Noarlunga. Kicking with a 6 goal breeze in the first quarter we found ourselves 6 goals down in the first 10 bloody minutes. I live in Golden Grove and its a 75 minute drive each way, I promised myself to never go back that afternoon. I even won the club raffle and was not interested in picking it up. Call me a bad supporter if you like but since 91 Ive enjoyed the finals once. Sellar drove me to go. Sad isnt it.

Actually mate me and my old man have sat through many, many embarrassing games with North.. where if we lost by 10 goals it was a good effort. That still didn't make me cheer on the opposition players, when a Crow plays against North I hope their stats read something like 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0.

Im a Sturt boy through and through..... so ive seen my fair share of embarrassing losses too and I know exactly how you feel. But I cant cheer on an opposition player if he is playing against my side, at any level, no matter if he is a Crows player, a friend whatever. Sure if he isnt playing against my team then ill have a cheer, as I did on the weekend but if say Bryce Campbell lined up for the Legs Friday night id have hoped Jade Sheedy lined him up from ball one.

So big Jimmy had a bad day. Its not what we or the club wanted for him, but its only round 1 and they played at Noarlunga. I dont know how many times he's been to Noarlunga, but its a different ground to any others around Adelaide, so it may have had some effect on his performance. He isnt the first bloke to have a bad day in round 1 or at Noarlunga. He's also played and trained with the AFC for the bulk of the preseason, so might be struggling to fit into the Glenelg game ATM. Lets let him have a few games before we decide if he's going to cut it or not. I remember seeing Bock and Rutten playing at the Eagles and Bloods early in their careers and wondering what the recruiting staff had seen that clearly wasnt on display those days either. I'm pretty bloody happy with them now though!! In time we might be wondering why we ever had doubts. Some patience may be all that is required.

Just means youve got players there that want to play for the jumper, and not just the pay packet.

If anything, at least Jack will get some passion back into the Panthers.

Same with Mcglone..... last years B&F IIRC. He was pretty handy for us Friday night.

Sellar has hardly touched it, which is why I am so surprised when people demand that he should be in the team now. He really needs to start playing consistently good footy for the Bays first.

I wouldn't even mind if he was inconsistent and played at least a good game every now and then for Glenelg. But he doesn't even seem to be able to do that. It is a concern. If he hadn't had that good game against Collingwood in Dubai I think there'd be a fair bit of panic on here about how he's performing.

The same game we lost by 100 odd points? ;) We were atrocious!

The gun Ryan Porter played well for you guys that day, but I see he left for Central. And Cubillo was adjudged BOG, he’s left too.

Ryan Porter... what possision is he playing now?

so consistency isn't a problem then :thumbsu:

Kite had a shocker. Made an impressive start with a good smother and a few strong tackles, one which resulted in a free for. I think he finished with 1 possession for the night, 1 free against, 1 free for and about 4 or 5 tackles. He got injured in the third quarter, I’m suspecting it was a thigh injury. From this point onwards he played with his hair on the bench and I gave him BOG in those stakes.

Can't be bothered writing any more, I'm shattered.

Otten, Jacky impress in SANFL

Jarrhan Jacky and Andy Otten made impressive league debuts for their SANFL clubs in the opening round.

Otten was among South’s best in its 14-point win over Glenelg at Noarlunga on Sunday. Crows observers credited the 18-year-old draftee with 26 effective possessions as a midfielder changing at half-forward.

Jacky played at half-forward for Woodville-West Torrens, which went down to North Adelaide by six points at Prospect after trailing by 37 points at the last change. He had 17 possessions and kicked a goal.

Ivan Maric shared the ruck work for the Port Adelaide Magpies against Central District on Saturday night. He had about ten possessions, had 13 hit outs and kicked a goal. For Glenelg, James Sellar had four possessions and spent a fair bit of the game on the bench.

Aaron Kite’s league debut for Norwood was ruined by a knee injury. He hurt the knee in the warm-up and tried to battle on at half-back before going to the bench.

Greg Gallman also copped an early rib injury playing for North’s reserves. It was hit first hit-out since hurting a knee a month ago.

In the same game, Tony Armstrong started strongly at half-back and had collected 20 disposals by half-time. Taylor Walker kicked five goals from full forward and centre half forward for Norwood’s reserves side on Friday night. And Myke Cook played his first full game for South’s reserves on Sunday, winning 15 possessions in the midfield.

Rookie James Moss shrugged off a sore foot to show some impressive form in Central District’s reserves side. He had about 25 possessions at half back and on a wing and took a couple of strong marks. Another rookie, Brodie Martin, was prominent in the first half for Sturt reserves before fading.

Norwood midfielder Bryce Campbell, named as a Crows emergency for Saturday’s game, was pulled out of Friday’s SANFL season opener.

Patrick Dangerfield kicked two goals and had a solid game for the Geelong Falcons in the TAC Under 18 competition on Sunday. He is training in Adelaide this week and will play with West Adelaide this weekend.

And Drummy/Crow*Girl, that explains Kite's ordinary game.

Whoever takes the SANFL statistics is crap

Also good to see Moss with only six months of SANFL standard and less than 10 CDFC games is named in the best 24 for the club! and Was best on groun in the Magoos!

I think Moss is going to be a great pick up from the rookie list and by the end of the year i think he will be on our main list. To only play a handful of reserves games after coming from the country and be ready for league selection in the best team in the sanfl is a great effort.

I agree totally. I wouldnt be surprised to see Mossy get a game by years end. He seems like a natural and he should be in line for a league game next game and with our lack of depth and growing injury list he will be a good chance. I have a feeling he could be a gem, Rendells crowning moment...

I see I'm not the only person to note the riders on the stats..

"Crows observers credited..." and "Statistics as provided by the SANFL".

I get the feeling that someone at the AFC isn't overly impressed with the SANFL statistician.:D

To be fair to the blokes who do the SANFL 'official' stats, I think they still have only one person for each club so that makes it difficult to get it right. I actually had Andy down for 13k and 17hb (not counting a kick out on the full) but it's easier for us if we are focusing on one or two players at a time.
