Round 1 2009

Friday 27th March
Norwood v Port – Norwood

• No league players in this game, just in the reserves. Surprisingly Aaron Kite is playing in the seconds, named on the wing. He hasn’t performed at his best during the pre-season with Norwood but I didn’t expect him to start in the 2’s. In fact what I’m most surprised at is that he’s back in Adelaide as I heard he was going to be in Melbourne for a few weeks. Hopefully he can get back into the league side ASAP. Will Young is named in the back pocket.

Saturday 28th March
South v West – Noarlunga

• Rookie Chris Schmidt is named in the centre for West Adelaide while Brad Moran is named in the forward pocket. For South, Shaun McKernan will likely make his SANFL debut.

Glenelg v Sturt – Glenelg

• James Sellar should be playing in the league for the Bays, with rookie Brian Donnelly in the reserves. Rookie Brodie Martin will likely start on the wing for Sturt while Tom Lee is in the reserves.

Centrals v Eagles – Elizabeth

• Jarrhan Jacky will line-up across the half forward flank after being named an emergency for the Crows. For Central, Jonathon Griffin is named as the starting ruckman while Brad Symes is named alongside him in the centre. Ricky Henderson might be playing reserves although I don’t think he played last week so I’m uncertain on his status.

Bye – North

EVERYONE should get down to the Parade tomorrow night, EVERYONE! :thumbsu:

Oh hooray :thumbsu: I can only make it to the Reserves game, so thats good! :p

Nice work Drumm, glad to see these threads making a comeback :thumbsu:

I'm amazed to hear Kite playing, I was sure he was out of the city. Excited to hear McKernan will be straight into the league side, I'm really fascinated to see how he goes this year. Him and Schmidt are probably the two SANFLers I'm most interested in this year.

I will be at the South/West game. Hopefully I will be able to give a run down after on how the Crows players went.

What about Rory

South vs West. It's the only Saturday 'normal time' afternoon match.
I'm sure that game is going to pull a 500 strong crowd especially with the crows playing at the same time. They might as well just let people in for free to at least try to get a decent number of supporters in.

Which ones the ABC match?
As sapaul pointed out, South v West is the only afternoon game. Good for us actually as we should have 3 lads out there and if McKernan plays it'll be interesting to see him in action.

As for the actual game, it'll be awful. These sides will finish 8th and 9th respectively so I can't imagine the standard will be too high.

Just out of interest, are Massie and Campbell lining up for Norwood?
They sure are. :thumbsu: Norwood's got a very impressive team for tomorrow night, and in a few weeks it'll be even stronger with Donohue, Jericho and Kite to return.

Typical Norwood tosser. The mighty Bloods will do a Panthers of '64.

Ever hopeful of a better year, I reckon Westies might be on the long road back.

Mate to be fair I went and watched the West Norwood trial match a few weeks back and I hope for your sake that isn't what West is going to dish up all year.

Surely they could have replayed last Sunday's lawn bowls instead of South vs West to boost ratings.

That was to give all you redlegs a false sense of security. You should be shakin' in your boots.

From what I heard they didn't play well in that game. However, West defeated Centrals and smashed Port in their other two trial games, and whilst I'm not expecting big things from West Adelaide this year, I do expect them to improve.

I'll be off to Hamra Homes Oval straight after the Crows game has finished to see yet another flag unfurling (I don't think you could ever get sick of them), then the Centrals v Eagles match.

I'll be watching the crows and then off to centrals vs Eagles.

Anyone know what time the underage starts my brother is playing for the under 16's for Centrals and I was wondering if they finish before the crows start?.

I saw Aaron Kite and Will Young play in the reserves. I missed probably the first five minutes of the first term and just as I was coming in, Young was winning the ball on the wing.

He played the whole game at half back and probably had about 10 possessions all up. There were peroids where the ball didn't venture down his way too often so he sought to come up the ground to find the ball. He was successful on a few occasions and set up a goal, from the middle of the ground, in the last term. He received a lot of praise from the behind the boundary line.

Kite played the whole game on the wing and would've been one of Norwood's best. He just had so much space in the first half, even managing to kick a goal from a set shot. His second half was a tad quieter, but he did receive some extra attention from the opposition, nothing that he couldn't handle with a push or shove :D

He tired a lot in the last quarter and called to come off with about five minutes to go. Before that though, he went up for a mark and clashed heavily with a Port player. He looked a little sore at first, but hopped straight back and immediately go back into the play. Definitely earned some brownie points from me :thumbsu:

I'd say he would've had at least 20 possessions, 5 or so marks and a few tackles.

I went down as well, but got there at half time. Kite payed pretty well in the 2nd half. Will young got to the ball a few times but didnt do anything eye catching.

And for those interested in the scores.

Ressis 98-67 or something
seniors 102-69

Norwood won both
