SANFL Round 20:

Saturday 14 August
Central v Port @ Elizabeth

* Jack Gunston, who I thought was made available to play this week after overcoming a slight injury, does not appear in either the league or reserves teams of the Dogs. He was the only possibility of an AFC listed player participating in this game.

North v South @ Prospect

* Rookie Matthew Wright has been named, you guessed it, in the FP for the Roosters. His recent form has been good but has slightly trailed off since a hot period early to mid season. Tony Armstrong has been named on the back flank and he'll be hoping for a strong game to earn a farwell game for the Crows...in 2010.

For South Adelaide, my man Myke Cook strives for more than 3 kicks this week as he's lined up on the wing. Although I expected a few flat performances after being demoted to the SANFL, I thought he'd be racking up a few more stats than he has been given he showed adequate ball winning abilities at the top level. Shaun McKernan is listed as an out, and is lilkely to play for the Crows, or at the least be a travelling emergency.

West v Sturt @ Richmond (ABC TV)

* Superstar Matty Jaensch is back with the Double Blues and has been named in the FP, against a champion player, Champion. Unfortunately rookie utility Aiden Riley has been dropped back to the reserves after a couple of quiet games. Brodie Martin hasn't been named as an in for Sturt, he's either been forgotten about or he pulled up a bit sore after last week. Hopefully he can take his place on the field to assist Jaensch in his quest for 20 majors.

Eagles v Glenelg @ Woodville

* Under the radar rookie Luke Thompson will once again quietly go about his business in the back pocket for the Eagles. Trent Hentschel is named at CHB and even a statless game is likely to impress Craig who will be looking to drop anyone to squeeze Trent back into the Crows side for one last game.

Meanwhile while Adelaide sleeps...

SANFL reserves baby!

Norwood bye (Young, Walker, Meesen).

Does this week count as another game for Walker in regards to him qualifying for the SANFL finals even though it sounds like he wont be playing in any reserves side?

I don't understand why we're flying Smack up to Brisbane with a 3% chance of him getting a game when we've got Walker twiddling his thumbs anyway.

Freaking give Smack a chance to impress! We're basically ensuring our two promising young tall forwards do bugger all this weekend.

Conspiracy theory #744 floated on this board in 2010 - NC wants to eliminate the possibility of Smack or Walker impressing this weekend so he can justify selecting Hentschel against the Pies.

I agree. How many times do we drop a player back to the SANFL and their team has a bye. So Walker is doing nothing this week and while Mckernan is starting to get his confidence up they decide to fly him up to Brisbane and sit in the grandstand doing nothing. Why not keep Mckernan playing so his confidence continues to grow. Craigy just wants Birdman and Hentschel back.

Hahaha!! Love the Jacky shot. The will be a spot for Jarrhan in BF Crows folklore from 2011 onwards. Right next to Brian Donnelly. :thumbsu:

To all the conspiracy theorists, ok I have another one. People say Craigy drops players that have a bye next week. Can I elaborate on that? Craigy only drops player who have a bye or are playing West!!! Bloody hell, you would think Craigy is trying to get his old side the Double Blues over the line.

Martin - dropped - will play for Sturt
Jaensch - dropped during bye week, not recalled - will play for Sturt

On the other hand:

Schmidt - retained (WTF!?) - will not play for Westies

Great report Drummond . Love the Jacky.
Dissapointing Riley got dropped as still think has something to offer although doubt ever going to be a star at AFL.
Surely if McKernan not in 22 not going to send him up to Brissie to be water boy when he could play .
Sorry Drummond tend to agree with most of your views but afraid disagree on Cook as I simply think he is not a AFL player and with so many retirements , Jackys etc may be lucky to get another season with Crows.
Dissapointing that so many of our kids are injured and not playing SANFL this time of season.

Sturt
F: Jaensch, Chambers, Giles
HF: Crane, Herring, Gum
C: Bode, Sheedy, Martin
HB: McGlone, Thurstans, Hinge
B: Fittock, McLeay, Nelson
R: Rowen, Cubillo, Vassal
Int: Hassan, Kurtze, Rischbieth, Plant, C. Evans
In: Crane, Chambers, Plant, Jaensch, Bowen, Herring
Out: Miles, McDonald, Riley (omitted), Johncock (work)

Martin snuck onto the wing. He was actually named for Sturt last week but got called up to the crows.

Gotta love the SANFL - Jeremy (cousin of) Johncock out for 'work'.

Riley had to make way - 2 AFL players, a magarey medallist and a triple Ken Farmer medallist coming in for Sturt, strongest team we've had all year. Chambers will knock up his 200th game. If Sturt lose then that's it for finals, probably the same for westies too although they have a much easier run into the finals.

^ I lol'd too. I'd like to see Pfeiffer get a run.

What has happened to Pfeiffer?

Sturt won :thumbsu:

Not exactly emphatic but we'll take it anyway. Only saw the last quarter and a half on tv but Jaensch looked to have it on a string and kicked a nice soccer goal in the last quarter that sealed the game.

Martin had a few decent runs with the footy in Q3. Riley also played so must have got a late reprieve but I didn't notice him much.

Watched most of the game on TV, Jaensch was the key reason Sturt won IMO. Will be a regular best 22 player for us next year, if not now.

Any chance Willits will play AFL again? Ruined by Choco, but he is a big unit. Not for ud nut could be a good pick up for GC or GWS.

I doubt Willits will get picked up again. Even though he's finally started to come good as we play him in the ruck. Competed fairly well today I would think, didn't get smashed. His ground work needs to improve as does his marking at times, struggles to take a pack mark even with his size.

We should know, we've gone through 3 years of mostly bad Ryan Willits. Shows some glimpses though.

Note that these stats should be reasonably accurate but I may have missed a few due to fastforwarding a few of the ugly passages...

Jaensch:

16 kicks, 3 handballs, 3 marks, 1.1.

He was awesome, made it look like a dry day with his superb skills and ability to one-take the ball. Had a huge third quarter where he started racking up the kicks and then kicked a clever soccer goal late in the 4th to put the game beyond doubt. He had a couple of customary booming kicks, including one 50+ metre bomb off his left for a clearance. I counted 4 I50's as well as 2 rebound 50's, indicating that he played virtually everywhere. He played mostly in what looked like a midfield type role as he was constantly around the packs as well as spending some time in defence where he took a few kick-outs. Was one of the few players who backed themselves to bounce the ball today and had about 5 running bounces. Was a great game from Jaensch whose skills really stood out today, he's simply one of the best kicks I've seen.

Martin:

11 kicks, 9 handballs, 6 marks.

Probably missed a few stats, might have had closer to 25. Seemed to always be where the ball was, had a few beautiful long kicks to teammates in space, but he had a couple of clanger kicks, especially early. He fumbled a few times today, and struggled to cleanly gather the ball on occasion; I'd put that down to a mixture of the conditions and a bit of rust. He's lost none of his ball winning ability, and I was impressed with his work-rate and attack on the contest, he really threw himself at the ball. A decent game, but one which makes you realise he's spent some time out of the game.

Riley:

5 kicks, 2 handballs.

Was a late replacement, and for mine he looked tired. Had a ton of missed tackles where his opponent too easily got by him, and his first kick of the day was a shocker. Only had 3 possessions to half time and didn't improve thereafter, he played in defence but couldn't provide any rebound and he looked a bit off the pace.

Nice write up Drumm.

Jaensch was probably the best of the Crows listed players there today. Has a lot of class about him but I think he needs to improve his tank a bit as he looked to be going half paced at times.

It was good seeing Martin gain the confidence to back himself and go for a run. He's still got his pace.

Poor Riley had an absolute stinker.

Cook was lively early for South. Missed a gimme from 15 out, before nailing one 35 out on the fence soon after (figure that out..).

Kicked two goals for the day, but like most of his mates, went missing in a disgraceful second half from South.

McKernan did not play unfortunately. :thumbsd:

Good to see Andy Otten there again today. Has been getting out to a few games lately. Most South supporters have a huge amount of time for him.

That is a very nice thing to here.:thumbsu: Seems like an absolute corker of a bloke.
