Ummmmm, this is the internet and this web site some how thinks it is play school on channel 2 sunday morning 1954.
It always amazes me just how ignorant people are of the difference between political correctness and fascist censorship.
The moderators and administrators have an obligation to consider minority groups, the oppressed, etc, however they have a far greater responsibility to society in not oppressing freedom of speech. Like it or not they have a responsibility in this department, and censoring the peoples voice is about as evil as it gets.
Don't like it then leave, well perhaps that should be the consideration that is directed to those who offended by the word Greek or otherwise.
The reality is that give it 12 months and this site will be gone and replaced by something vastly more interesting, because people are acuatlly allowed to talk without being silenced by over zealous hand wringers from AM radio.

You can't be serious. This is a privately run website that has zero responsibility to follow any constitution requirement for freedom of speech. I'm not commenting on this particular circumstance but overall the rules are floated, they are tried and some sort of consistent approach is achieved where possible. Most posters on BigFooty know if they are flying close to the wind and falling back on their right to speak freely is pure folly. There are easily going to
Admittedly the irony there was missed but the infraction which was minor so no biggie could just as easily have been for taking a main board thread off-topic. Allow one, allow 10, alllow 1000 and it is a free-for-all again.
7 years and going from strength to strength. The site can afford to be tough and selective. Many have started other forums and tried to lure posters away. The sites die and the posters come back. Even the regular detractors can't stay away.
I recognise the freedom fighters and all that .... it just doesn't apply to BigFooty.

Sorry but this is not true at all. There is no obligation under any charter per se, (and that is absolutely contestable, especially under certain UN obligations, no matter how private you are, been through this before with you....) but this is not the point, what is relevant is that the site is attempting to make PC statement, and yet is completely hypocritical in its approach. This is the issue.
This is the issue, the moderators are handing out yellow cards etc for truly pathetic reasons and seems to be a free for all with no real rules. My comments are not based on the history of the site, rather, where it is heading. The fact that something has never occurred, or something has always been has almost no bearing on its permanence or its future, Freudian Illusion of the most common and debilitating kind.
Again as above. However will elaborate in that the push for more and more stringent laws is pushing people further and further away. Further what is now being seen as a "moderator wild west" with no accountability or avenue of apply or appeal all add up to a ripe time for departure. Again, this website has been around for some time, (and is only a reproduction of a forum engine) yet it is almost no reflection on what it was even 6 months ago.
Is that right, then why all the infractions and rules? Are they simply random selections of political correctness selected by a chicken from a barrel of social grievances, because that is exactly how it is coming across.
I'm not advocating a new web site or anything, however this exact thing is my speciality, and believe me there is nothing in Football in Aus that even touches on what is available OS, and if that hits AFL you can kiss BF goodbye real quick. This site is 7 years old in almost every way.
My point though, lets keep it on track, is that the BF moderators are out of whack, there is NO consistency, and NO APPEAL, despite assurances to the contrary. As with anything in life ODN, unchecked authority always and inevitably leads to decay, and this is a prime example of it.
For me, I was banned for using a legitimate word, one which was used by the person who banned me on a regular basis: Simply corrupt. Then yellow carded for the most insignificant comment I have made, and I have slated plenty.
Again, the users on this site are getting fed up and totally frustrated with the inconsistency and outrageous bias. Sure it has been around for seven years, but it has never been seriously challenged, by anything of any substance, and has never really stooped so low.
Perhaps if it wants to be around another 7 it might consider what the users think and not just what the masters command.

The point is that there is no law and no obligation for a privately owned website to allow its users to say whatever they want to say. There is no obligation for a privately owned website to infract its users consistently and by majority opinion. I don't care about constitutions worldwide, they only allow for the right to speak, they do not allow for the right to do it in somebody else's house.
Well there are guidelines and direction provided on what is infractable.
Did you not state it would fail to exist in 12 months? I am pretty sure I can call you on that one without fear of being affected by illusion.
I can categorically tell you that BF has lost a lot of intelligent, valued members because of the increased traffic, increased trolling, increased juvenile postings, increased thread derailings, increased abuse and increased sense of entitlement from some of those freedom of speech advocates. Surely the only posters being pushed away by these infractions are those that are participating in some of these activities in the majority of cases. BigFooty then makes a decision .... do they want quality and rules or quantity and a loss of crediblity.
The infractions and rules are in place to mould and shape those freedom of speech exponents. I would have thought infractions and rules support my suggestion.
You don't lose a massive following quickly because someone brings out something with bells and whistles.
Have you sent a well worded analysis to Chief, along with specific examples of the inconsistencies you speak of? Would achieve a lot more than throwing grenades in the Blue Room.
Strong wording. There is nothing corrupt on BigFooty. We don't make a cent out of doing the job and there is nothing to be personally gained by banning random posters.
A drug reference infraction that was reversed?
Not sure you can speak for all of the users on BigFooty though mate.
Perhaps they will go with whatever the majority of users who do not incur infractions prefer to see.
I'm not wanting to be a BF apologist but every story requires balance and you rarely see that when it comes to discussing moderation.

I think some people have absolutely no idea on the amount of shit moderators have to cope with, and what some of them have to cop. Especially from people who are crying out "injustice" when all they're doing is bitching about getting an infraction from doing something obviously wrong, or breaking the rules set.
Although I do think *some* infractions are a little harsh, and that moderation has been a little more iron fist than a few years ago. But remember there are always two sides to a story.

Why doesn't the Mod in question get infractioned!
OR at least a "pull ya head in u can't infract for that" (eg. Fev winning Coleman!!/F word in avatar - surely a warning would suffice!)
They should have to answer to someone like everyone else.
Also in the 07 Posting Awards C4 was voted the Funniest Poster, doesn't this show that he is very well liked and people enjoy his contribution on BF!!

I won't claim to be among the valued or intelligent posters on BF, but I will claim the occasional loss of enthusiasm when juvenile Bay 13 style postings persistently herniate on to the main board. It seems to ebb and flow, but when it's flowing I tend to take a break from the tedium.
