Geez. So many insecure individuals worried by an alternative viewpoint. Perhaps you'd all be better off watching Oprah.

A different view point is one thing mate. Being aggressive about it and irrationally emotive with your arguements gets you no points with me. How about laying down a well thought out rational arguement and some might be willing to listen.

I haven't listened to the options as yet but I've already made up my mind that I want the song to remain in its original form (no reworks and certainly no new song)

Simple reason is this

We're actually trying to build up tradition and how the hell can you do that when you change things after 15 years?

A song doesn't lead to premiership success or players like MJ finally putting in 100% on the field week in or week out and it certainly doesn't cause an injury list or players fatiguing. Basically this is change for changes sake and really unnecessary

I'd rather good tradition than shit tradition. The old song is shit tradition, let's get some good stuff in.

Why not have an open mind about it? I love sing our club song (original), but I'm of the opinion that it could be better. EJ is better by a long way in my opinion.
Closing your mind to all but the status quo ensures the club goes on where.

Hey mate you should move to Perth. You'd fit right in with our progressive, liberal and trendy young go-getting population :thumbsu:

I see it the other way. We didn't get it right the first time and now we're battling uphill to change direction and create a new culture. There's no point in having a tradition of failure and near-enough-is-good-enough.

This imo. We're trying to create a tradition that's worth traditioning, as opposed to our current mish mash of wish wash hodge podge that splish sploshes around and doesn't inspire me to tradition very hard at all.

I heard a snippet of EJ and all I could do was listen in horror

Closing your mind to all but the status quo ensures the club goes on where.

I've been opposed to the changes ever since they were introduced (least I'm sticking to my guns) and the song is no exception.

Change for the sake of change is unacceptable in my eyes.

As for the bolded, I'm calling you out on that.

Why should the status quo mean the club goes nowhere?

Do you have any idea how hard it is to win a flag?

Are you telling me that a new song is going to deliver us a flag and a successful culture?

If you are, that's utter crap unless you and everyone else wanting the song changed to create a new culture are suggesting that the reason the players didn't try is because of the uniform and having to sing the song when they win.

Are you suggesting that the players will try more with a new song?

I see it the other way. We didn't get it right the first time and now we're battling uphill to change direction and create a new culture. There's no point in having a tradition of failure and near-enough-is-good-enough.

Do you honestly know why we didn't get it right and why we're still struggling to get it right?

I can point out 3 reasons and none of them have anything to do with a song or uniform or logo.

1. Coaching
2. Recruiting
3. Facilities

If you want to create a new culture, you go out and get the right coaches, put the structures in place to attract the best recruits possible and also ensure that the club has the best facilities possible to aid training and recovery, not to mention prevent injuries (i.e. a softer ground to train on).

Essentially this is change for change's sake and it's not right. Why change what ain't broke? I can see other areas (those outlined above) that need improving and none of them involve the aesthetics of the club

I'm all for changing our song because our song is sh-t, however I will feel a little dirty next year if we happen to win in the last Saturday of September.

I would be at the G in my original jumper which is about ten times to small & would love to belt out Freooo heave ho pissed as a newt.

A well run club is one that looks to improve everything, both on and off the field and its image, and that means the branding if necessary. If you have a club like Collingwood that has 100 years or more of well refined branding you don't need to do much (if anything, though Eddy has despite what he might say).

We have an extremely short history by comparison and not a successful one at that. We screwed up our initial branding (in my opinion), couple this with an unsuccessful history and it makes for a poor club image.

This of course has never stopped me loving my Dockers, Freo, Fremantle, FFC what ever you want to call them, as I'm a big believer in that innate feeling that "a club picks you, you don't pick the club"

I have however always thought that the Jumper and or song could be better. I'd also prefer that we were simply Fremantle FC as I hate nick names, but that for another discussion perhaps.

I applaud the changes as I see it as a tick for the current admin, in the sense that they are leaving no stone unturned in their attempt to make the club better and stronger for the long term (they still have a way to go in some areas, but they are making the right noises as far as i'm concerned). Others would see this as window trimming and distracting, but it is, in my opinion, vital to the running of a modern football club.

To address some of your points, I would like to think that the players really couldn't give a crap about the song, they might want some thing rousing to sing after a good win, but they should be concentrating on being professional athletes. The song is about the brand and our song needs to be improved to improve the brand. In my view an improved brand ensures easier marketability, which means more money which helps the club be more successful. So indirectly a better song will help. It is not everything, as richmond show. They have the potential to be as big as the Collingwoods and Adelaides etc, they just need to get other things right as well.

This leads to my next point about status quo. In any business your current model might be successful, but if you don't look to improve you will get left behind. Seem pretty straight forward to me. In a professional sense i'm about as high as I can get, but I always try to do better. If you remain content doing the thing that you are doing well, but remain close minded to opportunities to do those same things better then you will be left behind, as I guarantee your competitors well be looking to do better.

As far as winning premierships, I have not idea about how to achieve that. You obviously do by the sounds of it. So I will leave that to people who know more than I. Doesn't change the fact that I hold personal professionalism in high regard. I do agree that change for change sake is a fast track to failure, but I am always open to the idea of doing things better. So if a change will result in a greater chance for success then i'm all for it.

My point remains valid and any professional looking for long term success should agree, that maintaining the status quo will result in not meeting one true potential.

Ps this is one of the longest posts I have ever made on this board. I never like getting drawn into arguments on discussion forums as you can never tell if the person is just trolling you. Having said that AFL08, you appear to be a genuine person, who is truly passionate about Freo. We are all purple here, and while I disagree with what you say, I will listen. Might I suggest that you be a little more rational about your discussion, and you might get a better response from people.

Welcome to yesterday turbo.

Bought that membership yet ??

And... what have you done recently to improve our great city? I love it when people bag Perth and then sit back and do sweet f'all.

It's because I love Perth that I make these comments. I'm just sick of our elderely, conservative and sheltered population holding us back and dictating to the rest.

If you disagree with my assessment then fair enough, but it's so ****ing true.

Hows the agro, its like we have been split down the middle, am I conspiracy theorist or have the Steves been sent from the dark side to destroy us from the inside.
Just got home, had a listen to the new songs and what a load of tripe.
Is it Harris or Rosich who is in marketing, if he worked for me I would shoot him tommorrow.
And if for some strange dark reason 1 of those alternatives get up we will be the laughing stock of the AFL and we will bloody well deserve to be.

I suggest we change the lyrics to Rammstein's "Du Hast" and use that. That will fire the players and fans up before a match.

So how's that rock you're living under treating you? With our current song we ARE the laughing stock of the AFL, and prior to that with our over the top jumpers we were even more entrenched in that role.

I prefer Feur Frei personally.

Change both words to Freo and it'd be awesome to sing.

FREO FREO!!!! BANG BANG!!!! FREO FREO!!! BANG BANG!!!

Actually, they are all still better than flying high
Ok, that's a fair point. I tend to forget that exists sometimes... So my new conclusion would be that the WA teams are the combined laughing stock :thumbsu:

This would look incredibly weird in the huddle with no backing music... FREO FREO! BANG BANG! (head banging to silence) BANG BANG! (more head banging to silence)...

I so want to argue against something in this post.

But I just can't.

Wonderfully put Tommo.:thumbsu:
