Re: 2011 forwards discussion thread

Looking forward to seeing preseason to see if Chappy gets plenty of time in the mids & if J Selwood cops the tag.

Re: 2011 forwards discussion thread

Any thoughts on who will spend more time in the midfield out of Goodes and ROK, in 2011?

In past years I have been happy to have both in my FWD line, but this year they both feel risky and I only want one, and I want the one who will be getting more midfield time...

One of the concerns with ROK last year was that towards the end of the year he was doing some tagging roles, and doing a decent effort of it. He blanketed Hodge late in the year and as a result Hodge had arguably his quietest game of the year. Can't remember who else he had tagging jobs on late in the year, but from memory he did some good jobs.

IMO this does not sit well from a SC perspective.

Also, he virtually switched roles with Jack, and he seemed to blossom a fair bit late in the year

Re: 2011 SC Forwards Discussion Thread

Goodsey will most def stay in the midfield all year, I think the only real reason he was playing mainly forward last year was Bradshaw was out and Jesse White wasnt kicking many so they got a big bloke in there. just my opinion but i'm tipping Goodsey mainly mid

Re: 2011 SC Forwards Discussion Thread

ROK started the year really well, but a groin injury and a couple of concussions really stagnated his season. Will play mainly in the middle but I reckon he will see more time up forward this year as our younger midfielders start to demand more time on the ground.

Goodesy will definitely play mainly in the midfield. Will rest up forward, but would need Bradshaw to get hurt and White/Reid/Johnston to not be doing the job for Goodesy to go forward like he did last year.

Definitely going with Goodes in my team this year. ROK not as sure, though he should be at full fitness. Depends on his price.

Re: 2011 SC Forwards Discussion Thread

Does anyone harbour any reservations re: Nick Riewoldt this year?

No, if anything, I believe he has the temperament, professionalism and attention to detail to return back from last year in his best form ever, as well as a point to prove.

Will have his best ever season in 2011.

On forwards, I think Varcoe would be a fairly common selection as he is given more of a midfield role, looking at Grays pre-season form as he is a favourite of mine and I would love for him to live up to his potential so want him in my team, and I really don't have much idea on rookies at the moment, other then Mzungu and Callihan, so will be watching the Nab Cup with interest and will be circling the forums.

Re: 2011 SC Forwards Discussion Thread

is jonathan brown a good pick for a forward will be cheap

Probably a decent pick, but you can often trade him in cheaply at some point in the season, so I'll do that.

Knights and Petrie will probably be my value picks this year.

Re: 2011 SC Forwards Discussion Thread

Selecting Buddy no matter the price - stupid free's can hurt his score but when up and about he's capable of those 170+ point games.

Saw him at training today and obvious bias aside he looked unbelievable. Fittest I have seen him - he was dominating the running. Smashing the likes of Cam Brucew, Clint Young, Brad Sewell, Shoenmakers etc by about 20-30m in a 300m run.

It's not only the frees that are troublesome - the suspensions hurt a lot, too. That said, I pick Buddy most years.

Jarrad Waite on anyone's radar? What's the risk with injury considering he played well last season? Could be a good starter as a FWD semi-premium.

Moonwalker - i reckon as long as he keeps his elbows "tucked in"- his discipline worries me more than injury (he should in fact be better this year fitness wise), he is a reasonable pick as a 7th forward come years end.
Currently if everyone is fit and firing as expected/past performances - my top six would read something like this:
Roo, Chappy, Buddy, Didak, Pav & Goodes.

Arguable i realise but likely to be my forwards this season.

I'd be reluctant. After having him last year he's only really a keeper if you're scraping the bottom of the barrel as he is very inconsistent, and you can budget on him missing at least a quarter of games due to suspension and injury. As a pinch hitter towards the end of the year when you can't afford anything better, sure, but I'm not going to start with him in my team.

Everyone still roots pav and chappy. Does anyone here, including me think that they are past it? Chappy 30 years old and Pav has a niggly knee.
Im still not convinced they are good value, esp when Chappy will be so dammed exey.

Who knows with Chapman. Last year was the first year I ruled him out preseason - I wasn't going to get burnt again.

Turned out he was the most durable forward of the lot.
