So it's that time of year again where year 12s run amok for a week. As a Queenslander i had the privilidge of attending the festivities on the Gold Coast along with 30,000 other year 12s of that year and an amazing week was had by all.

Since high school i have moved to Victoria and cant help but be appalled at the shit the passes for schoolies down here.

BRB hang out with 3 mates at dads beach house at Lorne or Sorrento. WTF is this. get your shit together and descend on one place and dominate the town. Surfers schoolies >>>> Your shitty schoolies.

I flew up to Surfers with my mates for schoolies 9 years ago (wow that makes me feel old). Was an awesome week living on a diet of beer and the Red Rooster store at the bottom of our hotel. The only downer was that super muppet Mike Goldman hosted the nightly events as he was at the height of his Big Brother stardom. Most of us ran out of money after 4 nights so had to hit up the token rich kid for a loan to get us through the last couple of days, in hindsight $600 was never going to cover it.

It didn't seem to be as violent as it is these days, but we were mainly in pubs/clubs/hotel rooms and I think most of the damage gets done out on the streets.

ahhhh schoolies. the festival for those who think they are now how to drink, take drugs and have sex but in reality do not know how to do any of it.

11 years on and when me and the lads reminisce back on some of the benders of times gone by schoolies barely rates a mention. uni games on the other hand gets a very solid run.

Uni games is little league compared to schoolies.

Gets beat up a lot in the media but in reality the behaviour is generally ok. Indecent...yeah sure but not violent

I don't think there is anyplace on this Earth that would be more heinous than Gold Coast schoolies....
Cancun (spl?) for spring break?

We don't really do the "party hard" thing like the yanks, schoolies on the GC or Rottnest is the closest Australia gets, which is not very close.

Heh... funnily enough I actually passed through Cancun during Spring Break - Only went there for the airport to fly to Cuba, and the airport was bad enough... didn't stay there and didn't go out and about there at all...

It's pretty weird, I mean the whole place actually accepts and asks for American Dollars... it might aswell not be Mexico....

Cancun isnt really that wild in comparison to some other places. I think you'll find that whilst people get drunk etc the whole atmosphere is very chilled out rather than wild

It's basically an American resort town, not just for spring break.

I don't know... It is second hand info, but from a friend who was on exchange in the US it is pretty wild. The events/clubs etc. are way way looser and larger scale than anything the GC has to offer on schoolies.

It's a huge event, with concerts and massive staged parties. Big money stuff and not just the province of college students.

No doubt it is a big event there and like anything it can be as wild as you want to make it. Being a clubs event if you are two wild you will be thrown out and refused entry whereas somewhere like schoolies anything goes provided the cops dont catch you. Same reason Schoolies shat on uni games

Can't speak for the current generation, but back in the 90's and early 00's the average house party in Melbourne was bigger than the actual GC Schoolies.

I dominated Uni games but it was a poor mans schoolies.

Went to four uni games and non came close to schoolies week as far as the memories went

each to their own and we all create our own unique memories. both my uni games experiences were better than my schoolies.

maybe it a different beast now 11 years on but i can't imagine. don't get me wrong it was a good time and wild, but 4 years on when uni games came round i and everyone else knew how to drink.

the amount people smashed off their **** from a six pack or maybe a little more at schoolies was staggering. ultimately very few 18 year olds can handle real copious amounts of booze.

even years on now and the 29 year old me would put the 22 year old me under the table. the backing up is a good bit harder now but you just push through i guess when it needs to be done.

I went to 5 uni games events (3 AUG 2 NUG) and while good they didnt hold a candle to schoolies. The drinking was better and (shitloads) cheaper. Parties better. More hot chicks. And they all put out

Does Souf australia even have schoolies?
Yes, big festival down at Victor Harbour. Not sure why you brought it up though seeing as Radiojake lives in Melbourne....

Sounds like it goes off....

Either or it sounds like a few people here don't know what they missed by going to schoolies lite
