Schulz off to Port for Mitch Farmer?

I reckon it's a good deal. Both have the potential to be better than they have been... see what happens really. Maybe duds maybe not. Foot skills out of the backline sound ok to me...

there is alot of pressure on mitch, we are aching for a small defender that will allow newman to focus more on being our main distributor.

polo, king and raines have all failed in the past couple of seasons... good luck Mitch

Schulz gone which is good but still wish him luck regardless of whether he succeeded or not he tried and we get a young kid who may fill a need. Very happy so far.

... in other words your not easily roused .

Those pickets must hurt being wedged up your clacker

I'm saying that, as opposed to most on here who feel Schulz is useless, I wouldn't be that shocked if he improved a fair chunk over at Port.

At least enough to not be a failure, and be a target at full forward.

He's 180cm. He sometimes doesn't get a ton of the ball. 20 disposals on average in the SANFL.

20 is overstating it a fair bit.

He averaged 15 disposals this year (155 disposals in 10 games, with 28 marks, 5 goals and once in the best players)

Last year he averaged 16.8 a game (303 disposals in 18 matches, 68 marks, 3 goals, 6 times in best players)

His main weaknesses are that he doesnt have explosive pace off the mark - his first 10m is pretty poor but does get going after that, and he has poor endurance. His short foot skills can miss the target but he has a booming kick to make up for it.

I really hope Mitch makes hte most of it. Hes the sort of footballer you want to see make it. Nuggety, hard at it. A footballers footballer.

Port get someone who gives us some tall experienced depth who can play either end (we lack experienced depth at both ends). Hes 24....who knows, maybe it will kick him up the arse and he can become an AFL standard player.

Probably a win/win deal.

So who are we exchanging next year? ;)

the frustrating thing with schulz and hes had this from his junior days, is his laconic demeanor. Has all the necessary tools, reliable footskills, agile, good body size, fearless, looks like a player but he just doesn't get involved enough. His intensity, tenacity and desperation to be involved in contest after contest is deplorable and has cost him a RFC career and us a useful KPP. Get that right and you'll have a useful player, but imho, he'll struggle to change his stripes FWIW.

P.S I've alway defended Jay about 5 yrs ago I played poker with him and a few other tigers and had a great laugh so always had a soft spot for the bloke, but even i have realised he's run his race. Good luck

Will be interested to see what sort of role we have for him.

Given his pace and agility, I wonder if a he'd go ok as a tall wingman.

In any case, we havent given up the world to get him so if its a bust then we move on. Given our record with 'rejects', hopefully Schulz can be another success story.

At least we know our teams can deal fairly and astutely at the trade table.

I am surprised by this trade, like Schulz or not , we lack players able to kick 5 goals a game which on occasions he has threatened to do, if Richo pulls pin or goes down early, it leaves all hopes on Morton and Rewioldt to remain injury free and to again play KP .
For what its worth I dont think Hughes , Schulz , the Goo, or any other possible key forward should have been offered to gain another mid-sized versatilitywithout gaining a substantial KP forward.

Just went and took a look at richmond's website and the deal's done :thumbsu:. Shultz has gone to port and we get farmer in return. The details of the trade will be finalised on Friday according to the article.
