If we finsh last we will pickup Gibbs since his the best talent in the draft but if we finsh 15th then i reckon we will pickup Gumbleton. Gumbleton does have a chance of being no.1 but i very much doubt it

It's still all up for grabs and lots may change inbetween.

It will probably depend on what type of player a club needs as to who goes number 1

From what i can tell it appears it will be either of Gibbs,Gumbleton,Hanson or Sellar

Yes, if it was based on talent, that would be the order. I wouldn't want Sellar as a top 3 pick though.

I think we're a good chance to take Gumbleton if we finish last. He's a genuine pack-marking CHF with a good engine, agility, and skills. But really I think there are a few players vying for #1, I think the public perception that it's clear cut is misleading.

i think it showed yesterday with big nick what a star chf can do so if this guy has the chance to be a riewoldt or brown id love to have him in red and black

You MAY get your wish.

According to Jake Nile on MMM Essendon are very keen on him.
This of course does not make it the Gospel!!!

Sounds like a tough choice for the recruiters this year, presuming we finished last, do we take the the midfielder(gibbs) or the KPP(gumbleton). I dont know much about them, so i dont really have an opinion on who to take. But we could use both to be honest. We dont really have anyone coming through to play ff or chf apart from johns. Does anyone know if gumbleton is predominately a forward or does he play back as well?

Just found this, sheedy has been at his club last thursday.

These days most KPP play both ends or if not are usually taught by the clubs that recruited them.
He can play both but in the opinion of many is a natural CHF and many believe is an absolute star of the future

Gibbs looked so classy in the U18 championships it wasn't funny, I think we would take IF we finish last, seeing as though we have Lloyd, Lucas and Johns to play in the forward line. Adding Gibbs to go along with Watson, Stanton and Dyson would really set us up for the future.

If we finish 15th there's no doubt we'd go for him though as we should, because I think Kernahan and the Blues are keen on Gibbs as well.

carlton are interested in Scott gumbleton:)
i was told this by one of my mates.:thumbsu:
My mate said that his friend's dad is the assistant coach of carlton Barry Mitchell and is why he knows.:)
He said they are interested in gumbleton, because they need a KPP
not a midfielder since they all ready have Marc Murphy:cool:

Maybe they are counting on Gibbs already being taken. Be great though if we avoid the spoon and still get Gibbs.

I meant that Carlton will may get Gumbleton with their 1st pick

No chance. We will either pick Bryce Gibbs or Lachlan Hansen with our 1st pick, no doubt about it. Depends where we finish (16th or 15th) and who you guys pick 1st if you finish 16th. Whilst Gumby will be nice, we do not need him-he is a tall forward, very much like Kennedy. We already have enough forwards. A midfielder or tall defender are our main needs, and Gibbs and Hansen are the best out of this draft in those positions.

How can you be sooo confident, when i bet that the Carlton recruiting department still don't know who they will pick.
Your reasons make sense but Gumbleton can play back also and sometimes clubs will just pick some one because they feel they are the best player still available

Not that I know the thought process of the Carlton Football Club, but it is worth noting that a lot of players that end up playing in key defensive posts in the AFL are actually drafted as forwards.

It isn't much of a stretch to think Gumbleton could be drafted with a view of holding down CHB in the future.

He is just what we need, a solid CHB will definitely enforce our backline and I think will be the key to winning games once more. We're suffering up forward due to lack of marking targets (without Johns, Hird and Lloyd) so thats a no brainer, but we really dont have much of a big bodied HB line.
Sheedy knew what he was getting when he kept at it with Wally and took on Barnard, while recruiting Solly and moving Hardwick back there.
I stand by my view that Id like a KP draftee prior to going for an onballer. Onballers are a dime a dozen, gifted KP arent so plentiful

Crave, although he has played there and i'm sure he could be groomed to play there, hes more of a CHF, so if you wanted him for the instant CHB fix, i don't think hes your man, but in the long term could be a gun CHB or CHF

We haven't replaced Wellman yet, which has been a huge hole. McPhee and Bradley have struggled to hold down the gun CHF's and they have been the matchwinners, this is a concern IMO. Whether Gumbleton can play this role I don't know, I'm not a recruiter but it is a concern we need to address.

I agree, although in time MAYBE Lee will fill the role.
This is one reason why i suggested when Lloyds back next year we could look at trying to groom Johns for the role in the pre season.
Hes quick, big and strong and although looks suited to FF, with Lloyd in the team could be limited.
Anyways it's just an idea.....flame away boyz

Just seems out of his depth down back. Would be better IMO to draft Gumbleton/Hansen and throw him in there as hopefully they'd be ready for senior football straight away, keep plodding along with Lee, if he makes it he makes it, if he doesn't he doesn't, he definately deserves more time after missing last year with injury.

I'd give Lloyd and Johns in the same forward line a go, if it doesn't work out Johns is definately a handy depth player, he has the talent, he may not always be in the best 22

I'm not sure how much you have seen of him down back to say that.
If he has played a bit down back, and i can't remember much, he would need to be groomed as i said. There has also been occasions last year and this year when he has looked out of his depth up forward, but of course we know he can play FF well.
Apparantly in the pre season he played a game or 2 at CHB and was very impressive, paper talk though

Played there against Adelaide (although everybody struggled that night) and against the Demons and did not look good. He's the kind of player who needs to stick to what he knows best, because he struggles at that at times, he is not the answer to our CHB problems.

Beat Carlton and avoid the spoon, draft Gumbelton/Hansen if availabe, worst comes to worst if we are competative and a finals chance and they cannot hold down CHB, or Gumbleton is just a tear at CHF, play Lucas back there

Played back against Brisbane and started to look good before doing his hamstring.
