You know I'd happily pay a $500 annual camping license. If that's what it took.

Just don't close off all the good spots. It isn't the money. It's the access.

What they'll do is put "facilities" in the allocated spots and make them easier to access.

What makes places like Wonnangatta so great is they are hard to get to. It's genuine work, with a genuine reward at the end.

hear hear….. here… we are on the same page bruce wonders may never cease

They advocated a position on SSM. Like any group are entitled to.

FWIW, I voted the other way, with some reluctance.
Advocated a position? 2 million dollars is a lot of money to spend on advocating a position.

you and i are advocating positions mate.

Arguably the most secretive unaccountable government in ages. Wonder why?

In short, policy capability depends first and foremost upon evidence-based information. In addition, the identification of what information is needed and then its provision will underpin the development of the necessary skill base and culture among the public service advisers and ministerial decision-makers. And finally, agreement to policy changes requires the sharing of information in a readily accessible form with the public if the nature of the present policy debate is to change and widespread agreement achieved.

But unfortunately, all that information is no longer available, and the Morrison Government has rejected the recommendations from the Thodey Review for its restoration. Clearly, Morrison thinks that neither his government, the Parliament, nor the public, need a better-informed economic and social policy debate.

Haha …it’s Covid stupid…
seriously we don’t quite need a stick nor a carrot..
we need rolling police on the ground to wind people up…it’s not like there is quite the crime wave going on…
incentive of shopping vouchers would be a thing…
I guess the other thing is to quash this social habit of meetings at shops that drives me nuts…
lock them up for a couple of days…block their credit/debit cards..block all access to human society….
Kinda not serious but free society or not…free COVID passports are being considered…

Actually I don't think that is true. It is much more about smoke and mirrors in the last 3 weeks of the election cycle. As we saw in the last election.
Swinging voters are only 2 to 3% of the vote these days, even though we have compulsory voting , you still need something to leave yr house to vote for.
There's votes in climate action with 76% of the population wanting more concrete action but Labor unions won't allow it.

This twitter thread it explains what happened

Very shit by Rex Patrick, but not all that surprised, aside from the FOI he’s turned out to be a massive attention seeker and more interested in wedge politics to make himself more relevant then he actually is.

Major climate changes inevitable and irreversible – IPCC’s starkest warning yet.

Human activity is changing the Earth’s climate in ways “unprecedented” in thousands or hundreds of thousands of years, with some of the changes now inevitable and “irreversible”, climate scientists have warned.

Within the next two decades, temperatures are likely to rise by more than 1.5C above pre-industrial levels, breaching the ambition of the 2015 Paris climate agreement, and bringing widespread devastation and extreme weather.

Only rapid and drastic reductions in greenhouse gases in this decade can prevent such climate breakdown, with every fraction of a degree of further heating likely to compound the accelerating effects, according to the International Panel on Climate Change, the world’s leading authority on climate science

We're all stuffed and scomo and albo don't give a toss.
They are both coal lobby stooges .

It's still a capitulation by Labor.

Winning elections these days reminds of the Itchy & Scratchy focus group. People like the idea of voting for change but don't have the slightest clue what it would look like.

This is the root of the problem in modern politics, this tail-wagging-the dog-focus-group driven politics. We see this play out ad infinitum - Trump, Brexit, Morrison. The Left is trying to breakthrough and educate on policies and visions that are simply too easily drowned out by the megaphone of misinformation and disinformation on the Right. And Fake news is much more likely to be promoted on social media as content than real, factually based news.

''Action of climate change'' is a popular, even easy response in a poll or focus group, especially if that's how the question is framed. The actual reality of formulating policies to address this whilst fighting off the Murdoch media and powerful industry lobbies is another thing altogether. The other reality is that the people who Labor need to vote for them are more susceptible to the scare campaigns against action than voting for such action. It would be foolish for Labor to play into this trap now and divert attention from the self-immolating LNP.

In fact, Labor announcing any bold policy prior to an election is like giving away your position to a T-Rex, you're only really safe if you're out of sight. Then make your move when you're as close as possible to safety (the election). Labor is rightfully adopting the Dr Grant approach rather than the Dr Malcolm.

How many battles did the Afghans win?
Very few.

home side doesnt have to they can just outwait us.

insurgent / assymetric warfare is pretty hard to win - theres a couple of wars that have been won and the rest lost with a lot of money and lives flushed down the dunny doing so.

Nothing for it then. Time to do away with giving those stupid people a vote. Time to send in the army.
