Wow eh.. I suppose I'm the only person that sees value in trading a 33-34 yr old when the season's toast.

Not enough players and coaches at the club to mentor the kids? Knowledge past on from Pendlebury to others.. can't be past on to others.. in one ear out the next.

Mate.. I'm in favour of opening up a spot.. not gifting one.. not good enough.. next in line.

Progressive and advanced thinking re..

What are the chances of Pendles extending on minimum wage next year? Or even playing as a player/coach? Could help us land a free agent.

You open up spots by getting rid of blokes like WHE Josh Thomas blokes who don’t offer anything on the field and nothing off the field. Not by trading the captain. Giving games to kids who haven’t earned it is not a viable path forward.

You bring up Hodge like this someway proves your point yet he wasn’t forced out by the club he retired before Chris Fagan convinced him to carry on at another club. The Hawks got absolutely nothing of value and this move has not helped them improve as they are still getting worse

I think we'll see another salary decrease (pretty sure his salary has decreased in consecutive contracts), but would be unsure about him getting on the minimum given he's still our best mid

maybe I can explain it better this way.

The old master on the gyros is slowing down and dropped from getting 80 souvas out an hour to 70.
So they decide to move him on for the new kid from Oakleigh who, while goes a little overboard on the tzatziki, slicing technique could be better, but shows some talent.
Without the old master there, is he really going to learn to slice the gyros to perfection? Has he learned all the tricks to get the souva rolled to for maximum $? What does he do when someone comes in asking for hummus????

You need the master to make the kid reach his potential. Forget the 80 souvas an hour. With the right mentor, you’re looking at the kid producing 90 perfect souvas.

Otherwise, it’s kebab time!

Quit at a time where they were not going anywhere.. Pendlebury is 33.. how many yrs has he got left 2? He's passed his best. Are we a premiership chance over the next coupla?

You think I'm opposed to seeing Pendlebury run around next yr.. that's bs.. ideally I would love a young player.. or an exciting prospect from another club get in there and take over the reigns or at least try.

If having him around mentoring young players for 2 yrs is a big deal.. I'd say it's a big deal that those Pendlebury have mentored can't do a similar job. Pass on the wisdom re..

If he plays next year, he should be paid commensurate with his expected output. The minimum would be nowhere near what he would be paid to go around again. Lunacy to suggest it.

Why? Plenty of players have signed for unders at the end of their careers to give something back to the club who has looked after them so well. Pendles was on over 800/900k for a long time, he doesnt need the money.

there are role models/teachers at every club that offer inspiration, motivation and guidance to youth. Playing with a champion like Pendles would be a dream for many kids on our list presently or in the future.
The acceleration of their development under Pendles therefore far out weighs any benefits from trading him IMO.
 
Pendlebury - consummate pro.

Not saying trading him is the right call however its academic coz the club would never even entertain it. They don't think nor behave like a Hawthorn. It would never enter their minds and of course the supporters would scream blue murder.

No you aren’t. You think you are making a good point when you really aren’t. Pendles has mentored DeGoey who do you want the next generation trying to emulate DeGoey or Pendlebury? You don’t want to gift side games that’s when you get into a shit position like Gold Coast. They are always giving the next star a game but nothing ever eventuates
