It was amazing that we and Pendles specifically orchestrated things so well and yet Daniher was all on his own to get that kick from almost outside the boundary and kick a late goal. Something went wrong here. All our defenders were defending the teeth of goal.

They (like our coach) probably expected it to be forced out of bounds and slacked off for a moment, and/or were going goalside. Would need to see behind the goal footage

That was a ‘moment’ we didn’t need. Almost unbearable.

I think Fly said something about it on AFL 360 - along the lines that we should have defended it differently.🫣

He may well be the greatest I've ever seen play the game, I think.
Some have been better at their peak, but he's played more very good to great games than anyone else ever I think. In his second season he was very good and has ony played a few games since that weren't very good games of footy or much better than that.

Unfortunately he’ll probably be coaching some other team to a premiership.

Just gotta hope he goes to one of the less objectionable clubs. Or that he is content to be a long term assistant until Fly gets tired of winning flags with us.
He'll go to a top and thus objectionable club as an assistant when he retires. My bet would be the Cats if he's willing to leave Melbourne.

By the time he retires he will be too old to be an assistant coach!

Yep, his consistency over 15 years has been unreal. So many players have been drafted, had very good peaks, and retired in the time Pendles has been a very good player

He'll get that many offers he'll be able to pick and choose where he wants to go.

Yep. His manager will approach the club he wants to go to and they'll say yes.

I said Geelong as Geelong, Sydney and now us come across as having the best football departments. And he's said previously that he wants to go to a new club to learn more.

Surely he wouldn't work for Scott...

Someone sporty / sport science explain the benefit of coming off after 2 minutes?

Wouldn’t an extended 3quarter break been better?

Oh well, we won!
Can only guess he thought he could go flat stick for say the remaining 26 minutes, but had previously found himself struggling at the very end of the quarter, so he effectively re-started the clock? Was likely just a bit opportunistic as he found himself near the bench?

id assume he wanted to be on the ground at the start of the 4th to make sure we got off to a good start, but knew he’d need a rotation and wanted it early

If you listen to the latest Jock & Journo podcast, Pendles explains it - he basically took the opportunity then in order play out the remainder of the game (but he explains it much better).
