almost every game is decided by the umpires gifting and/or taking momentum to and from teams every quarter, every game. i'm starting to believe the battle is against the umpires - there's a huge mental battle going on where a team knows how the umpires are officiating their match, they have to suck it up and battle through it, i almost believe that's the struggle of trying to win a game. umpiring calls are made so frequently it's absurd, they're constantly made for things you might not have seen or understood, the players themselves may not have understood or maybe just know is downright wrong. they don't just miss/call a chop of the arm or a push in the back or something these days, they constantly change how they officiate throughout the season in accordance with the form of the teams and how they can play, then they control the momentum within these matches. but they also control how teams do play by letting them go or calling them up when they normally wouldn't. this is just what i think i've started to see in 5 or something years. it's probably just fixed for whoever makes the most money for them that year and whatever creates the most surprising and exciting narrative.

I think the OP may be going a little far in suggesting that some matches are predetermined from a CEO level.

But I reckon the umps are giving BS free kicks to try and keep the scores close till the end.

Personally, I know that Wayne Harmes was OOB, even if I wasn't born. AFL didn't want the Pies to end their drought.

2002 GF, clear case of the AFL wanting Brisbane to go B2B. Absolute travesty.

I actually agree with this.

I find it interesting how the umps also shut down players when they try arguing. I'd lose my mind as a player and go crazy decking umps if I was playing.

ITT Chief missed a golden trolling opportunity - to wit by locking the thread a few days ago with a comment inferring the AFL threatened to punish him if he didn't do it

C'mon Chief, the most stable genius, TTWPOBA

I'd flat out scream in their faces. If someone on the street talked to people the way the umpires do at times they'd be lucky not to get hit. I find the AFL players extremely restrained.
