True, personally I'd like us to trade the picks for a shot at a 17 year old.

Either O'Maeara or Crouch.

That's if we want to use the pick (s) on youngsters.

These compo picks are too hard for me to follow. :o Realistically, are we a chance to get one of these two 17 year olds in exchange for these picks? Which clubs could trump us? Wouldn't GWS take quality, proven AFL players over draft picks, no matter how high they are?

No club is going to be falling over themselves to offer premium senior players (which is of course what GWS want).

Our picks have an advantage over all other picks and probably even most mid-tier senior players due to their flexibility.

A club can use them in any draft from 12' to 15'.

So if we really want Jaegar then we would be in the box seat to get him?

It all depends on how much another club wants him.

We could very well be in the box seat if we could work Warnock/Bate into the deal with one or two picks.

If you get a quality player that's desperate to leave a club (ie. Goddard - purely hypothetical) then we won't be.

Either way I'd be happy to land pick 2 or 3 in the mini-draft to nab Crouch.

Take for example the GC's pick 4, some would say that would have them in the box seat.

GWS would see it a little differently IMO, firstly they will be almost directly competing with GC for a flag in a window about 5-10 years from now (assuming all goes to plan) so they are unlikely to offer up an elite talent to them. Secondly they have a multitude of high draft picks (as well as some quality pre-listed 17 year olds), I'm not sure a fixed pick four will be of more use to them than a pick 11 plus <18 they can use to top up on talent any time in the next 5 years.

Good to hear from you BS, I thought you might have been over in Asia somewhere looking for your next princess???

Naa just got a normal Chinese girl at the moment. She's not a princess though.

Not like the last one who was an actual princess, she dumped me. But she was pretty lazy so i didnt really care. :thumbsu:

I'd be surprised if we're not beaten with our 2 picks.

Adelaide for example could offer up Tippet and a first round pick. St Kilda could offer up Brendan Goddard. If I were Geelong I would consider Bartel.

Alot of clubs that need to think about their future but would otherwise not get near a number 1 draft pick will be pressing pretty hard here.

Its fairly unlikely IMO, that these types of players would be actively offered up by clubs. If the player wants to leave it's another story.

TPM, what can you tell us about Crouch? I've never heard of him...

The Saints are the real danger IMO, and it all depends on whether or not their coach believes they have a chance at a top four spot in 2012.

No club who think they can taste success next year will trade a top line player (especially given there is a similar mini-draft at the end of next year).

Was U18 AA this year as an underage, I'm pretty sure he was in the TAC Cup team of the year as well.

HBF/Mid.

Good pace, great user, great decision maker.

Had something like the 2nd most effective kicks in the TAC Cup this season.

184cm/83 kg's so is relatively ready made.

I think he'd compliment our group nicely.

Could slot into any team in the AFL at the moment, (yes even collingwood and Geelong) as a 17 year old turning 18 early next year. Touted as a top 5 pick this year if he was eligible. Ready made, tall, ability to play every position on the ground, sublime skills. He reads the game perfectly, averaged 35 disposals at TAC level this year. Made the All Aus side from 1 game with Vic country. Leg injury forced him out but looks to be well healed. Would love to make a play it him, he reminds my of a Boyd/ Goddard type

I have been leaning this way also for a while, mentioning here and on land,

Crouch sounds excellent, is slightly larger than O'meara at this stage, although things may change with 17yo's

The key being that he is Victorian and should go slightly Cheaper, then again their are alot more VIC clubs to go for Crouch, and the secret that he was 6 months ago is no longer, he is a big name

Names recruited to MFC recently from North Ballarat Frawley, Mcdonald, Cook all looking value to me why stop

I dunno anytghing about this whole trading picks for 17 year olds. Can someone tell me if we were to get O'MEara for example will he be on the seniors list in 2012?

Yeah they're on the Senior List AFAIK but not eligible to play AFL until 2013.

If OMeara costs us 2 x compo picks plus a decent young player, could we get Crouch for say 1 x compo pick?

I honestly doubt it, he seems like he will be in high demand, i would expect it to cost a good first rounder plus a good player tbh, verging on 2 first rounders , he is pinned as a top 5 pick in comparison to talent in this years draft

The thing is, though, that we aren't trying to get O'Meara, we're trying to get pick 1 in the mini-draft. Because it's a bidding process, rather than a trading process, it's my understanding we might put up an offer and get pick 4, which would mean paying what we would regard as overs for a pick one and receiving pick 4, because someone was willing to pay even more.

Surely you simply bid for each pick, such as any other trade, the scenario you are suggesting is ridiculous

It's trading not bidding, you trade for what you want and it's up to GWS to select the offer they would like to take for that particular draft pick in the 17yo draft.

They HAVE to trade those four picks.

I was under the impression each interested club puts in a bid and GWS selects which club will receive bid 1, which club will receive pick 2 etc.

I know GWS have to get rid of the picks, but I was told the whole point of the bidding process was that you couldn't specify which pick you were after, so the teams would pay massive overs to ensure they didn't just pay slightly overs for pick 1 and wind up with pick 4. But can we put in a bid just for pick 1?
