Hitting his straps now IMO, the sheer number of contests he manages to get himself to is incredible and his hands is close are second-to-none.

Has a few flaws in his kicking to iron out but he's arguably our most consistent midfielder at the moment, just continually knocks up getting the footy.

Very happy with him.

He is a gun and should win the Rising Star award. I thought he missed a lot of targets with his handballs today, still played a great game though.

He has terrific hands and with a few more KGs he'll have the ability to dominate the centre bounces. He looks very comfortable now after a couple of early jitters.

The thing that he really needs to improve upon is his size.

Today, it just stood out to me that he doesn't have the strength to fend off opponents in the tackle. Conversely, Cousins was strong through the hips and consequently, managed to evade most would-be tacklers.

Other than that, though, I think he pretty much has everything going for him. Quick hands, high cruising speed, hardness, elite acceleration and endurance, as well as a fairly neat kicking technique and the ability to rack it up.

Will be a star, and in my view will be a top 5 AFL player in the future.

depending on his last few rounds, could take out the rising star

Just wish he would fire up the after burners more often. We see it once or twice a game, he gathers, steadies and then just goes, leaving everyone flat footed. But I usually note 4 or 5 other times when I think "come on Scul, just back yourself and run it!!". Same with Watts and having shots on goal, gets in position numerous times a game and passes it off when it looks like his best option is the goals themselves.

But I agree, he is starting to look very comfortable and when he developes his core strength a bit more should really dominate.

star in the making, very exciting player, has the speed to change a game, and the smarts and skills to think his way through difficult situations, absolute gem.

Could have told you this after round 1. When i saw him burst from the pack against hawthorn, right there and then, i knew he would be a genunie superstar, regardless of where he was drafted

Cant wait to see him after a few solid pre-seasons... will be incredible.

He is simply Chris Judd MK2. An absolute gun who will win a brownlow within five years. Hopefully for his sake, he can also land a girlfriend like Juddys.

He's a little ripper, Scully.

To think he's still a teenager, running season campaigners off their feet in his first season, gets me pretty excited. IIRC he didn't start pre season training until January because of knee surgery as well, just wait until he gets a full AFL pre season under his belt.

Lots of hype around Martin (who lets face it, is ****ing good) and Trengove this year... but IMO Joe Scully is the pick of the bunch.

One thing that will forever stick in my mind out of todays game..... Dustin Martin ran full charge into Scully front on contact (big hit) Scully went down down in a screaming heap, got up instantly and gave out the handball. Thats what champions do, no questions asked, get on with business. Scully:thumbsu:

Could have told you this when we had to tag him whilst playing under 10s

I was talking to a yr 12 boy last year who played Scully at club level. He said Scully won 5 or 6 League B&F in a row. He is a freak, and could dominant the league for years to come.

He's a little gem and his head is screwed on the right way too. No matter how good this kid gets he will always want to get better - and he has all the tools to do that.

Just a quick question. I remember hearing an interview with Connoley a few months ago, where he said the club had pre planned a rest for both Trengove and Scully, before the mid season break, and one after the break before the end of the season. From memory Scully is yet to have this second break? Do you think he will be rested in the next few weeks, because I was thinking of getting on him for rising star at $5.50-1, I think he is a huge chance.

His last quarters have been fantastic this year, just a player who doesn't stop and works for the entire 120 minutes.

They have been fantastic, and to think he's been doing this off the back of an injury-interrupted pre-season.

It's amazing to think about what he'll be like at his peak.

Considering that he's in excellent form, coupled with the fact that we're in finals contention, I really can't see him being rested from here on in.

Further, $5.50 is great value in my view, especially as he's coming home a lot stronger than the other contenders for the award. I might have a look at that myself, actually.

It could depend a lot on what happens this week. If we lose, we're basically out of the finals race - they might rest him in round 21/22 although i dont see much of a point really, unless they just need a free spot to give someone like Tapscott their first game.
