Interesting to have byes in premier and D2. Why not go with 10-8-8 structure instead of 9-8-9?

Any word on which (old) D2 club gets promoted? Surely would be out of Gembrook, Yarra Glen or Junction. Gembrook would make sense considering proximity to 3 of the old SENFL clubs.

No promotion in D2 (we had 9 last year).
I just hope one of our byes next year falls in snow season when I have uni holidays lol.

One of the 2018 D2 clubs was going to be promoted into the new D1 "by application". Not just a case of winning the grand final.

Wasn’t the 9 for the “Premier” Division made up of the 2018 Div 1 Top 5 and the 4 from SE ?

Wandin, Woori, Hville, OFC & Upwey, together with Narre, Beacy, Berwick & Cranny ??

TS - I'm talking about the new D1. It was going to be the other 3 from SEFNL plus the AFLYR D1 #6-10 teams plus 1 team from the old D2 on application.

Do you know which team has applied?
Yarra Junction's recruits for 2019 would have them competitive for D1 or dominating D2.

Quite a few marquee games will be gone with new structure. Will be interesting to see what new rivalries will be created with the new teams.

Gembrook would probably be better geographically. Keeps them closer to the bottom 3 SE teams and away from Yea / Alex / Thornton / Kinglake.

Gembrook and Yarra Glen were the two that applied, with the league reportedly favouring Gembrook due to them having Unders.

Heard Belgrave have signed Berwick’s leading goal kicker. A few others out down there also including Riseley back to Woori.
Holt has left Cranbourne for Karingal.

Bit of player movement already in Div 2
Johnson from Norwood to Junction.
The Younger Bayliss to Seville who have lost Neal to Lilydale

Less games in H&A series, only 16 rounds for all teams with 2 byes for each team in Premier and D2. That's one less home game for every team to try and raise same funds. In D1 there will be 2 teams that each club meets on 3 occasions unless there are byes planned there, but that would mean only a 14 game season.

It would probably be better if each division had 18 rounds with no byes but the 10-8-8 model that it would require must obviously have some logistical issues if the League are going down this path. The 3 divisions on the proposed setup is probably as close as you can get to evenly spreading the perceived strengths of teams.

Guess they chose 9-8-9 rather than 10-8-8 as each comp will finish at a similar time.

Going with a Friday GF again in top division.

With so many unknowns its really just going to be a trial and any changes required will be implemented in 2020.

Really looking forward to see how the new league evolves. Regardless of what we think AFL Yarra Ranges has done a terrific job bringing this together as has been acknowledged by many clubs and stakeholders. How they managed the Cranbourne situation was in complete contrast to the head in then sandbox approach from MPNFL clubs who were scared of the potential of them dominating the league.

On the contrary I take my hat off to the MPNFL. They as clubs control the destiny of their league. They decide the direction as what’s best for their clubs as a collective. The Valley clubs had no say in the merger, they were told what was happening. The sheer demographics/population size of Berwick, Narre, Cranbourne will create a distinct advantage going fwd. things will end up lopsided.
