As for Emerald, an $8k fine suggests it was a minor breach. Could well have been an administrative error where somebody was overpaid. The penalty tells you what you need to know, if they were seriously rorting they would’ve copped a lot more.

After reading Emeralds statement and making an educated guess it was to do with not including there co-coaches payment in there APP (Actual Player Payments) total.

Co-Coaches where at least one is playing their payment will be included in the APP as follows;

• 50% to a maximum of $10,000 may be excluded from APP calculation for the playing co-coach
• The rule only allows for two co-coaches, seek clarification for any alternative by a ruling under 8(d)

Example, if a playing coach and non-playing coach are paid $15,000 each, then $7,500 of the playing coach payment would not be a Player Payment and would not be included in the calculation

If so, you really just scratch your head how they’ve got off so lightly

Curious to see what happens with Alex now. They haven’t really lost anyone and actually gained players this year.
That to me suggests they are still well and truly over the salary!

I also have heard they can be very “chirpy” on the field… wonder if that’ll come to a stop now.

AFL can’t legally fine clubs hence why the use leagues to do it . Whilst leagues can only hand out fines in accordance with their own rules and without interruption from 3rds parties like AFL Victoria .

Reminds me of Melbourne Storm keeping 2 sets of books. Surely cash would be king in these situations.
